Saylua is a virtual pet game being developed by a pair of programmers, Mike and Tiff, with great help from our lead artist, Chutkat. Although we're still prototyping our core game mechanics and fleshing out our lore, our goal is to capture the feeling of escaping into an enchanting world filled with charming creatures you can befriend. We're still a long way away from having a solid ETA, but you can follow us on this blog to keep track of our journey!

Hi there! ^0^ I just stumbled upon your side and I'm absolutely in love! :D The art and concept look incredibly stunning and I can't wait to hear more! It reminds me of one of my favourite MMORPGS (Aion) back then, where you had to choose between two different sides. I love that! I also got a question: Can we -- beside befriending pets -- create our own avatar and dress it up? That'd be super amazing! Thank you so much and take care!
Hello! I’m super glad you found us, and I’m honored that you’re enjoying what we have so far! As for your question, we are planning on having human avatars on our site, but we’re still working on figuring out how they’ll work and look. We will post more about this feature when there’s more to share!

We’ve always wanted to have a large variety of different creatures in the Saylua world! But up until now, we’ve simply called them “pets”, “species”, or “creatures”, avoiding the fact that we didn’t actually have a name for them all! After much deliberation, we’ve decided to call the “pets” in Saylua “sprites”.
And I’ll tell you a few bits about the sprites of Saylua! Sprites are intelligent creatures with many abilities that humans don’t fully understand. For as long as humans have lived on Saylua, humans and sprites have had a close bond. Humans seldom venture into the wilderness without being guided by a companion sprite. For the sprites themselves, human society provides a safe and pleasant home away from the harsher parts of nature.
Even when living under the care of humans, sprites are self-reliant. They tend to hunt and forage for food on their own, so human caretakers need not worry that their sprites will starve if left alone. However, sprites still really appreciate when their humans give them treats! After all, who doesn’t love a nice meal?

Hello everyone!
I want to take a moment to share some of the basics about our game.
Saylua is a virtual pet game in development, with a focus on collecting and caring for magical creatures. You’ll be able to befriend creatures, although some might be tough to find. With the help of your new companions, you’ll go on adventures and overcome decision-based challenges.
The world of Saylua is tidally locked, which means one side of the planet is always lit and the other is always dark. These extremes have led the inhabitants to develop adaptations, magical and otherwise.
As a resident of Saylua, you will be able to choose a side. You’ll be free to travel and interact with people and creatures all over the world, but you’ll need a place to call home.
In terms of tone, we want our content to be suitable for a 16+ audience. We plan for Saylua to have an idyllic tone while still addressing serious themes. To join, you will need to be at least 13 years old.
We’ve introduced a few of the species that inhabit our world, but many more are yet to come! Our lead artist @chutkat has helped us so much, beautifully conceptualizing and rendering our species. In future posts we’ll unveil more creatures and the stories behind them.
As for us, I co-own the site with Tiff. We’re both programmers, but we collaborate on game design, lore, graphic design, and whatever else needs to be done. It’s been an amazing experience diving in and developing this project, and I can't wait to share what comes next!

*scream* Lucky to come across this. Excited for your project. It looks amazing!! Are there any disclosure you can give on the core game mechanics, the lore, creatures, genre?
I’m glad you found us! We’re currently in the process of reworking our game mechanics and a lot is changing, so I’m hesitant to promise too many specifics. However, the game will be a pet collecting game with RPG elements.
For lore, the world is tidally locked, with one side always dark and the other always light. The planet of Saylua has creatures that use magic to survive and thrive in their environments. We currently have ten species that you can check out on our wiki here. Some of the wiki is out of date, but it does have some general info on our lore. In the future we’ll write more posts on this Tumblr as well, so stay tuned!- Mike

In honor of Halloween, we’re introducing the Eydrun! This dark-side critter will see you long before you see them. Eydruns often lurk in trees to watch and listen, but if you're patient they might let you get close.
Fun fact: Eydruns close their eyes when cuddled.

Sayleus, the light side of Saylua! Illustrated by the wonderful @lyraina
The constant sunlight that hits the Sayleus is a blessing to the flora living on this hemisphere of the planet. The light side of Saylua is known for being home to giant flowers and elegant creatures like the Fleuran.

An illustration of Luaria, the dark side of Saylua, by @lyraina
The endless darkness that covers Luaria has made the hemisphere a challenging place for humans to live. Luckily, this dark side is covered in bioluminescent plants that have adapted to absorb magical energy in the absence of light.

We previously called this little bird the Fyra, but we’ve decided to rename it to the Chirling. A few of our other species will also be getting renamed soon.
Chirlings are energetic, intelligent, and sociable creatures. First time caretakers are often surprised by how much attention Chirlings can demand.

The light side of Saylua is  called Sayleus. Sayleus is filled with creatures such as the Fleuran, a flowery fish which can be found swimming across the region.
Although they can be found in a variety of water conditions, Fleurans tend to spend most of their time basking near the surfaces of lakes and ponds where they can absorb the sun’s rays with their photosynthetic fins. Despite their delicate appearance, Fleurans have a tendency to be surprisingly aggressive when defending their territory.

Welcome to the official Saylua Tumblr!
Saylua is an upcoming virtual pet game where you befriend creatures in a charming magical world. The world of Saylua centers around a tidally locked planet where one side is always night (Luaria), and the other side is always day (Sayleus). The three pets in this post are the Arko, the Fyra, and the Nylik. These pets are common pets which can be found on both sides of the planet. When you first join Saylua, you will be able to pick one of these three pets to be your first companion!
@chutkat is our main artist, and she’s been doing a wonderful job creating our pet artwork!
