˚ ┈ REID SUMMERS is an eighteen year old SPLIT RIVER HIGH STUDENT who died from blunt force trauma due to a fall. he/him.
TRIGGER WARNING(S): accidental death, abuse mention
reid died just months before graduating in 2017. him and his friends decided to break into the school after hours to pull a prank. they sneaked onto the roof, where reid dared one of his friends to jump from one side of the building to the other. reid went first, trying to show off for everyone. in the darkness, he misjudged the distance and fell, hitting the concrete below. his friends tried to save him, but it was too late. reid wasn’t exactly popular, but he wasn’t unpopular either. he was somewhere in between. one thing both the popular kids and the not-so-popular ones could agree on was that he was cute, but reckless. he was known for doing silly pranks, skipping class, and sneaking into places, but he never meant any harm. he just liked the excitement of getting away with things. his troublemaking was a way to cope with the emotional pain of his home life. he lived with an abusive father and a mother who did nothing to intervene.
split river was one of the few places where he felt untouchable, even if just for eight hours a day. his bad behavior at school was his way of seeking attention and, in many ways, was a cry for help. however, because his father was an important figure in town, no one suspected the dysfunction at home. the public image of his family kept the truth hidden, and reid's cries went unnoticed by most. reid's death didn’t shock people. while it was tragic, it wasn’t entirely unexpected. hearing his peers and teachers talk about him after he died was hard. it was difficult to hear how people remembered him— some with sympathy and others with judgement. the first few weeks, reid tried to warn students about the dangers around the school, appearing just in time to stop them from making reckless decisions. but after realizing he couldn't interact with them, he gave up. now, reid just watches, silently judging those who make dumb choices, shaking his head at their stupidity, but no longer trying to intervene.

˚ ┈ FRANCESCA "FRANNY" YıLMAZ is a twenty-nine year old EMT-FIREFIGHTER based in los angeles, california. she/her.
TRIGGER WARNING(S): mentions of a car accident, coma, and paralysis
franny's life was forever changed when she was just sixteen years old. a newly-licensed driver, franny was excited to take the wheel legally. on a normal saturday afternoon, she and her mother were driving to run errands when the two of them were in a car accident. while making a left turn at an intersection, franny was blindsided by a car that ran a red light, crashing into them at high speed. franny's mother severely injured was rushed to the hospital, where she fell into a coma and didn't wake up until two weeks later.
though franny came out of the wreck with minor injuries, her mother's life was forever altered. she was left paralyzed from the waist down, requiring long-term care and support. to make matters worse, franny's father, unable to cope with what happened, turned his grief and anger onto his daughter, blaming franny for being behind the wheel. his emotional abandonment fed the girl's guilt, leading her to carry the weight of the accident's aftermath, even though the crash was caused by the reckless actions of another driver.
unable to live at home, especially with her father’s unresolved anger and the overwhelming responsibility of caring for her mother, franny made the difficult decision to move out at eighteen. she left behind the family home and started a new chapter of her life, determined to find her own path and heal. this journey led her to paramedic school, with the desire to make a difference in people’s lives, much like she wished she could do for her mother. after earning her certifications, franny worked as an EMT in los angeles ambulances for a few years. while the work was rewarding, it eventually started to feel repetitive, and she found herself facing burnout.
wanting a new challenge, she enrolled into the firefighter academy. after graduating, she was placed at a station that was mostly made up of male firefighters. franny struggled to fit in with the team. their humor and way of working reminded her of her father and which made it difficult for her to find comfort there. franny would eventually ask for a transfer and one year later would be transferred to station 118. which brings us to the present day. though still a rookie, franny already feels more at home at station 118. the team is welcoming, and the camaraderie is exactly what she's been looking for. but despite the newfound support around her, franny still finds it difficult to fully open up, even with a team that feels like family.
