Customisable bases that do not show your characters face (stay helmeted, stay alive) and instead are organised by body shape...
Once again possessed to draw plate armour designs so there's the possibility of adoptables this summer...

Maybe even a picrew for plate armor?
It's an option! I've not investigated how to make picrews before and it could be cute to make a little plate armoured character one, but a girl's still gotta make a few quid over the summer so it'll only be on the cards if I have time to do something just for love of the game 👍

Thank you so much for your insight!! I particularly am wondering if you wouldn’t mind also giving a little advice or maybe tools you’ve used to accomplish those things? ( like how you said magazines are a current inspiration point, do you collective different examples of page spreads and sort of collage them to your aesthetic then work on filling in with your art from there? )
I'm particularly thinking of something like this post: https://www.tumblr.com/sbeep/783050030564130816
For things like this do you use like mood boards, reference collections and then draft out how you thumbnail scenes or figures? ( Sorry if this is a really in-depth ask to explain your process;; ) ✨
It's no problem to answer, it's possibly the most mysterious and undefinable aspect of drawing, the ~inspiration.
My answer may be the most unhelpful one that could be offered, but- especially with projects like Bahr Ezadir*- the pieces are led by mood and what feeling I want to catch in the moment I sit down and draw. I don't lean on any one source or reference as I often find that in attempting to imitate something real, it becomes a lot less alive than the thing I'm trying imitate.
I don't do collages or plan ahead all that much unless the project demands it (I thumbnail illustrations for work but rarely for personal art). I am absorbing visual and emotional inspirations most of the time, forever dipping in and out of my photo stock library, my books, my memories of travel, seeking documentaries. If anything, my moodboard is mental and constantly changing.
I hope it's not too disappointing to discover just how much I wing it 😅
-* below the cut
Bahr Ezadir has roots stretching very deep into sources of inspiration: childhood and lifelong reading on history, particularly Egypt and it's vast history, Iran and ancient Persia, Islamic paradise gardens, Moorish palaces in southern Spain, Viking travel to the Mediterranean, the significance of water to cultures born in deserts, what it means to be strangers in a city far from your home. Distilling that interest into a fantastical set of images demanded attention to meaning and detail that is probably only hinted at vaguely in the final images but was necessary (and fun) none-the-less.

Can I ask, did you go to school for art or sort of your character direction / design? I’ve always been really fascinated how to draw and present characters, there’s a lot of beautiful presentation to your characters and the short stories the visuals you provide carry — I was curious was it something you learned with time or studied? ✨
This is a really good question, thank you!
My art school experience was video game specific and I have to say, the tutors who ran the classes would not have known good taste if it hit them with a 5-button combo.
I definitely learned about my own tastes with time!! I think we are all drawn in particular directions aesthetically and my major influences have been animation, illustration and cinema- where visual impact can push everything else aside in the name of a beautiful shot. Lately, I've been returning to magazines and editorial imagering. My Butterick drawings come from the clothing pattern company and its accompanying catalogues.
But good taste and strong art directions are as subjective as flavour, and like the best broths you need to explore and add in as many good ingredients as you can find and simmer. ♥🍲

I will always prefer Wizards Is A Job over Wizards Is A Species as a trope.
Wizarding should be something you work towards. Being a wizard is like being an architect, or a painter, or a chemist. It’s something that makes your relatives ask “So are you still doing that or do you have an actual job now”
