#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of Kaine#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#….well let’s see how long this will be the most recent panel we have of Kaine alshdksj#also I know he’s got chutzpah + simply does NOT care but simply throwing a tank top and jacket of his high-necked costume#while still technically having another man (who is also a super hero)’s face is WILD hahaha

Chasm: Curse of Kaine (Vol. 1/2024), #4.
Writer: Steve Foxe; Penciler and Inker: Andrea Broccardo; Colorist: Brian Reber; Letterer: Joe Caramagna
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of Kaine#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#Chasm#Ben Reilly#Hallows’ Eve#Janine Godbe#and that’s it#does it beat the end for them from Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider#(with Ben literally stabbing Kaine in the back)? yeah I guess maybe#but what kind of comic fan would I be if I wasn’t always searching for More and Better for my fave characters hahaha#but this sure is a fascinating spot for Kaine’s character#where at his core he’s the kind of guy to respect/have no qualms with flexible morals#yet he’s out there willingly going to help people#I’d say I’m proud of him (although Kaine’s rough edges and complicated relationship with heroism is what drew me to him#in the first place so I hope all those elements of his character don’t get completely smoothed over hahaha)

Writer: Steve Foxe; Penciler and Inker: Andrea Broccardo; Colorist: Brian Reber; Letterer: Joe Caramagna
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of Kaine#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#Chasm#Ben Reilly#we even got a hug but at what cost#adore Kaine continuing to curse out someone he’s saved (as is his style)#and gosh I wish we could have explored more that element that Kaine very well considered killing them both#or at least Ben (very throw back of Kaine)#like…maybe it was something along the lines of «I won’t let him suffer having his mind being puppeteered any longer#nor will I let him die alone»???#maybe Kaine’s self-worth and self-preservation continues to be that low????#who’s to say I’m just metaphorically wondering aloud hahaha

Chasm: Curse of Kaine (Vol. 1/2024), #4.
Writer: Steve Foxe; Penciler and Inker: Andrea Broccardo; Colorist: Brian Reber; Letterer: Joe Caramagna
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of Kaine#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#Chasm#Ben Reilly#as you might gather from this blog’s header Kaine’s ability to say screw all that noise and pragmatically cut through to something’s core#is one of my favorite things about him hahaha#that and how he not only acknowledges how many times he’s died but how he refuses to die in certain ways#Kaine’s done the whole sacrificial thing a couple times and he would really rather avoid doing it again#there’s also something about forces outside their control manipulating Ben and Kaine#violently pitting them against each other (something that’s happened for most of their lives to some degree)#and Kaine deciding that he wasn’t going to die alone#he was either going to save Ben or take them both out#cursing him out all the while#and yeah that’s definitely inline with how this comic has portrayed him but I feel like that could be explored even deeper#like even what I’m saying here feels a bit like trying to dig for treasure in a shallow puddle#but that’s just my opinion and perhaps a bit harsh don’t mind me hahaha

#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of Kaine#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#Chasm#Ben Reilly#typical Parker brother brawl#but yeah I am once again asking Marvel editorial to let Ben rest#and considering how little we got of Ben (in his right mind) and Kaine interacting#that panel of Kaine suggesting that he Ben and Janine should all just head out together hurts a bit tbh#that would have been nice maybe (as unlikely to go well as it is hahahaha)

#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of Kaine#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#you know what I think this about sums this entire mini series for me#banana-on-head attempt at humor#finally a reference to their fraternal relationship but still feels a little hollow (at what cost?)#at least there are jokes that can be made about this sewer dweller feeling like he’s at home here bless him#(I do love the pizza rat)

#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of Kaine#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#Hallows’ Eve#Janine Godbe#you know how much I love Kaine being completely out of the loop on what the big super hero groups are doing#(and that’s how he likes it)#that and I appreciate how even if he has a dim view of his and Janine’s tactics#he at least has SOME sympathy for these little sewer dwellers who have had their free-will taken away/been used as pawns

#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of Kaine#cover gallery#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#Chasm#Ben Reilly#Hallows’ Eve#Janine Godbe#well….this is a series that happened I guess#I guess it’s technically better than nothing?#In that I’m glad someone remembered Kaine exists and is keeping him in the public consciousness#but frankly I do continue to be sad with the direction they’re choosing to keep going with Ben#that and I am BEGGING to know whose idea was it to imply in this issue that Ben is potentially a furry AND a scaley#whose idea was that and who okayed it I’m begging here

Chasm: Curse of Kaine (Vol. 1/2024), #3.
Writer: Steve Foxe; Penciler and Inker: Andrea Broccardo; Colorist: Brian Reber; Letterer: Joe Caramagna
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of Kaine#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#Chasm#Ben Reilly#Hallows’ Eve#Janine Godbe#wow…I think this just about perfectly encapsulates why I’ve felt like this miniseries has been ever so slightly off#I mean beggars can’t be too choosey and don’t get me wrong I’m primarily glad somebody remembered Kaine even existed#it also warms my heart to see Kaine growing into a heroic role#(and maybe I’m just being nit-picky over dialogue but hey this is a medium with limited dialogue space so writers have to be specific#in how they want to convey things)#but this contrast is just so wild#at a stretch I can see Kaine stopping to help civilians#he’s grown quite a bit since he started out in Houston…but seeing him so blatantly gung ho about it is a little jarring hahaha#as for Ben…oh Ben…I know they’ve been trying to establish Ben as vaguely despicable ever since this series opened#with him shaking tourists down for loose change but they can never make me believe that’s the real Ben !!!!#so Ben’s decision here is even more jarring hahaha#remember how Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider ended with Ben despondent and essentially soulless#only for him to be promptly put «back to factory settings» very soon after in a Spider-verse event? I don’t care if it’s lazy#I hope they do something like that again and we have a heroic Ben back hahaha

#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of the Kaine#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#Chasm#Ben Reilly#Hallows’ Eve#Janine Godbe#this right here#if I could get a miniseries where they’re primarily at this level of animosity but still cooperating I would be so happy#I won’t ask for the moon and request that they actually be happy/perfectly get along#but just working together towards a common goal with each’s humor being more dry and cynical than the last#(bonus points if Peter’s also there and written by someone who understands that#for all of his good qualities which I adore#Peter can also be a very distinct breed of obtuse punk and just an absolute nightmare to deal with)#please just once in my life time

#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Chasm: Curse of Kaine#latest release#Scarlet Spider#Kaine#Kaine Parker#Chasm#Ben Reilly#Hallows’ Eve#Janine Godbe#Kaine: the world’s largest third wheel#both physically and in terms of his resentment of having to bear witness to any of his brothers’ love lives#and again with the distinct exasperation I love in Kaine#of course his brother would get tangled up in an eternal’s machinations#at least he’s no longer perpetually dying but Kaine’s life was cursed from the start to be difficult#and nothing’s more difficult than trying to keep someone with the Parker luck in one piece (more or less)
