Hi!! USC is my #1 choice and has been since I was a kid. My gpa is a B and my SAT is 1560. Obviously not what USC requires but I have been volunteering since I was 7, I'm a member of clubs and school sports and have a job. My essay was pretty good as well. With m grades and sat being low do you think I have any chance?

It's hard to say what the admissions office might do. When I applied, at least 10 other people from my high school did too (I'm out of state across the country so that that's a lot from one school!). Our Class President who had pretty good grades and was a student leader was rejected, but three of us were accepted. The three of us were pretty different - two of us were in the top 5% of our class, I was a student athlete, the other was a musician. I don't think there's a single kind of student they look for. I think they look for people who are passionate about SC and willing to put in their all just as much as they look for people who look great on paper.

If you get a no the first time, work on your grades and build relationships with professors/advisors wherever you go to college. Get to know some alumni - attend as many of those local events as possible. Apply to transfer! It's usually a little easier to get in through transfer since it's a smaller pool of applicants. Sometimes all they need to know is that you can adapt well, and show commitment to and succeed in higher education. Having school admin or an alumnus vouch for you goes a long way.

USC is my dream school. What are requirements for getting in?

I think it’s tough to give one single answer. For me, my experience was that you should show that you’re a well-rounded individual. I had strong academics, membership to many clubs, community service, and I was the varsity captain of my sports team. I think what really helped my application was my eagerness to be part of the Trojan family and the determination to overcome difficulties (what I wrote about for my personal essay). They like to see passion and ambition in their students. At least that was my experience with my own application and my friends’. Good luck! Going to USC was the  best decision I made  for myself and I loved every minute I was there.

As someone who was there when Stanford won their "Biggest UpSCet Ever" and stunned the Coliseum silent, last night's game was so redeeming. We listened to Stanford fans call our diplomas worthless all year. They told us we could use them to burn when we were homeless because we went to a university with inferior academics. This was said by their official announcer when we went to their stadium the following year. Classy!

FTFO! After years of being the Goliath who gets taken out of the Rose Bowl or the BCS Championship, it's good to be the David again.
