very stupid idea i'm sort of thinking about... which is; even if ai models store exact copies (they don't but let's play along) of training data in their weights, i think from a legal point of view penalizing the idea of "it can store and reproduce an entire object perfectly" as the distinguishing factor sort of… hmm like, it implies people with eiditic/photographic memory are not allowed to read things, because they might copy them if they make artwork legally speaking (again, taking on faith that true photographic memory exists - just assume it does as part of the thought experiment) this is a very tired thought but i hope you sort of get what i'm gesturing at it's also not a very serious thought it's more of just a philosophical thought experiment. is it fair to penalize something for "having a better memory"? not with anthropomorphization but just the quality of being able to copy perfectly. i guess... are photocopiers infringing by nature because they can create photocopies that are 1:1?

idk i don't think it's terrible to joke about common themes and even tropes in poetry and fiction. like some things are funny in the way that they pop up so often and are sometimes overdone & hamfisted.

the problem for me is when people on this site post poetry or short prose and someone reblogs it with a joke and that version of the post gets big notes. and that happens on here like every other month.

regardless of whether it's "good" or not, that's someone's art and unless they've already published it, this this is likely the only place they're "publishing" so the comments & tags here will be the only feedback they get.

and if they push back at all, they're portrayed as bad sports. i joined this site as a creative writing blog when i was 15 in 2008 and over the years i've seen so so so many young writers here play along and laugh it off when one of their poems becomes the new joke, because at least then only their writing will be criticized, not them.

i'm not by any means suggesting the no one is rude and terrible to visual artists here as well but i will say there isn't a tumblr trend of reblogging someone's drawing and commenting "lol this is corny and stupid" and then that version gets 100,000 notes with everyone agreeing and laughing.

there are literally "iconic" copypasta memes from this site that were teenagers' poems.

Fuck it I’ll say it: Transmisogyny is a useful way of understanding and analyzing the oppression transfems and people mistaken for transfems go through but as soon as you start treating it as a binary of oppression rather than a spectrum you start to get into really shitty territory. I say this as someone who is “TMA”, I’ve seen so many of my sisters spouting seperationist rhetoric and painting themselves into a corner by proclaiming they’re uniquely and exclusively the most oppressed there ever was and only capable of being understood by fellow transfems instead of acknowledging everyone is impacted by transphobia, transandrophobia, and transmisogyny to different degrees and trying to empathize with and understand their fellow trans people. I live in Florida, have lived here all my life, I’m transfem, but despite what the TMA/TME binary proponents would have you think I can guarantee most transmascs have been through worse, because the fact that I’m transfem doesn’t automatically mean I have it worse!!!! I have read so many horrifying stories from transmascs about the abuse and oppression they face and compared to what I went through where I was at the absolute worst of it mockingly deadnamed by a coworker and sir’d by random strangers I have gotten off incredibly easy. Because that’s the thing! Oppression and transphobia is a spectrum of abuse! Not a binary! Just because I’m “TMA” doesn’t mean I have it worse than “TME” people!!!!!! False binaries only hurt us and prevent us from understanding the true nature of our oppression, use transmisogyny as a framework, not a law of who always has it worse!

this person is a terf. if you search trans on her blog it is immediately clear, i am not using terf loosely she is literally actually a terf.

we cannot let our weariness at not being heard by some of our community push us into the sick and malformed arms of transmisogyny and radical feminism, these people do not care about us at all, they are trying to harm every single one of us. our solidarity with trans women, men and people as whole should cause us to slam hard on the breaks. no matter how many trans women you see being antitransmasculine it does not mean that there are not so many more who are our genuine allies, do not let the algorithm pushing hateful person after hateful person your way skew your understandings. the transphobes want dissent, they want us to tear each other apart. we do not need to contribute to the harm to have ours lessened. (causing harm to a vulnerable minority is never morally correct no matter what got you there in the first place. also straight up trans women are easy to love and are inherently deeply deserving of community solidarity, and fascism (which terfs are) should not have any appeal whatsoever no matter how hurt you are but i digress.)

on another note: we cannot and must not reactively take on the mentalities of trans rad fems, no gender in the trans community needs to be the most oppressed to be taken seriously and given respect in our community, the equality in our suffering is immense and must be acknowledged without each group needing to prove we are the most victimized to get the care and community support we need. this is harmful no matter who is doing it. we absolutely must nip this kind of thinking in the bud.

push back on terfs in this tag everywhere you can, and if there is a reason you cannot comment or reblog to shut them down, block them on sight.

Non passing trans men don't benefit from misogyny whatsoever, besides possibly on the internet. If they are seen as a woman in someone's eyes, especially legally, they do not benefit from it. If you are not seen as a man by society, regardless of if you are or not, you do not benefit from misogyny.

The post was not the place and time to discuss this though was my point. Especially bc the reason I made that was bc for like 2-3 years straight I’ve had just an endless stream of girls being crazy homophobic to me out of nowhere you’ve all been my witnesses. and I was thinking about how 10 years ago if you told me the overwhelming majority of homophobia I’d be receiving would be from women I’d laugh in your face. But this is 100% tied to the wave of terfism that’s just metastasizing right before us. So when I lament on how bad things have gotten between gay men and women only to have girls reblog it to talk about how much they hate gay men it’s like wtf… it’s genuinely weird to me and comes off as if they were really just homophobic to begin with but use this vague cabal of women hating gay men to justify hurling out stereotypes of us being treacherous and “disloyal”. Bc any woman who isn’t just straight up homophobic wouldn’t react that way to a post calling for sisterhood.

And also that last sentence isn’t even really true. These systems of oppression don’t really work that way. This hard line you draw between all men as oppressors and all women as the oppressed just isn’t true all the time. A Gay man can be habitually misogynistic but it’s very possible for a woman to hold more power and privilege over gay people too. And that’s not even touching race. But again that post wasn’t made to help root out the villain when violence is going in every direction but up. Do you really think straight men and gay men are in alliance with each other seriously?
