From Beginner to Intermediate: an intense plan for advancing in language

Introduction

I've studied Spanish at school for 3 years and now I'm at a low B1 level. I can actually understand pretty well while listening or reading but I can't communicate fluently.

This plan will include vocabulary build up, some grammar revision, a lot of listening, reading and writing. And could be used for the most languages, not only Spanish.

Plan

Every day:

Conjugate one verb in present, past and future tenses

Make a list about 10 - 30 words long

Create flashcards with them and start learning them (I use Quizlet for flashcards)

Revise yesterday's set of flashcards

2-3 times a week:

Read an article or a few pages from a book

Write a few sentences about anything in your target language

Listen to one episode of podcast (at least one)

Once a week or every two weeks:

Watch a movie in your target language, preferably animated movie as the language used there is easier. You can watch with subtitles

Grammar exercises

Translate some short text

Once a month:

Write something longer, like an essay or report, on chosen topic

Additionally:

Talk to yourself, to your friends, to your pets

Text with someone

Look at the transcription while listening to the podcast for second time

Repeat what you hear (in podcast or movie)

Check words you don't know from the listening and reading

Read out loud

Listen to music in your target language - you can even learn the text and sing along

Watch YouTube in your target language

Change your phone language to the one you're learning

Think in you target language!!!

***This is very intense plan for self-learners, you don't have to do all of these things in the given time. Adjust it to your own pace. I'll try to stick to this, if I have enough time.***

so firstly I would just like to say that I know a lot of people rec these kind of audios solely based on how well they relate to a certain character/how well they would portray that character, and I definitely want to say that even though I might relate these to certain characters in my mind, my recommendation of them and my enjoyment of them is based on the quality of the work. when I first started getting into these, I was amazed by how fucking artful some of them are (as someone who’s primary focus is often smut, I can appreciate sex fuelled, sex based art) and I love it when someone goes the extra mile to create immersion or to create a strong character that they still relay even through sex.

I highly, highly recommend this entire account. I literally have it in my Google Chrome favourites bar, it is absolutely one of my favourite things ever. I feel like this person has a voice that can easily be interpreted as Eddie (which will come through in some of their audios that I have linked below) but like everything they do is just so interesting and immersive to me? There is some wilder stuff on the account (like I tried listening to some of the breeding ranch stuff and I enjoyed it, but it’s the first time in a long time that porn/smut has caught me off guard) and I fully appreciate someone being able to get so fucking into character and not giving a fuck. cheers. 

Oh My God, They Were Roommates - A gangbang with your three hot guy roommates. So this one I unfortunately cannot relate to any characters, because the poster does sound like Eddie and give some Eddie vibes, but the other two guys I was just drawing a blank at relating to any characters from recent stuff I have watched. The guys who plays “Leon” in this sounds like a total frat fuckboy (and not in a King Steve way to me) and the other guy is Irish. So this is not a character based rec, this is just one I love, and I love that it’s a collab and more immersive because of the different characters. 

I’ve Always Liked You - best friend Eddie confesses his love for you and fucks your brains out, and then sings you a song. When I first came across this one, I immediately fell in love with it. Because the person who made it and posted it is a singer and plays guitar and I was like “ah, this is so fucking Eddie that it hurts”. And I love how there is a bit of ‘plot’ in there. Finding out Eddie is in love with you by fighting over a notebook full of songs he wrote about you - that’s so fucking real. Also, him being like “you’re really gonna come at me for naked guitar?” that is so fucking Eddie that it hurts. I love the heart and the story here (and yes, I am still talking about porn) and I just think this one is amazing. 

I’m Yours. All Yours. Just Yours. - aka the one with the air mattress. Best friend Eddie helps you get settled at his place after a long trip to see him, and a discussion about a cashier flirting with you at the grocery store sparks a surprise confession. And sex on the world’s strongest air mattress. Fair warning, this one is long. It’s 49 minutes long, but I think if you have the time to sit down and get immersed in this one, it is so fucking worth it. Everything about this is so Modern!Eddie that it hurts - him being like “well I guess I’ll just check it on my phone! Like a mortal!” and like oooomf. This one is amazing, I love how it’s a slow agonising build and you know where it’s going, and like the first time I listened to it, my autistic brain was like “they are going so hard, how the fuck are they not popping the air mattress?” but then I just let that go and got into it. I also think it’s so fucking iconic of this creator to put air mattress noises in this. Like yes. Go the extra mile. 

Your Crush’s Big Brother - aka the weird Eddie AU. So this one is another one that I love, the only thing is, it might not relate to Eddie/Stranger Things 100% unless you do some mind bending. Because the concept is the main character (the guy, who you might pretend is Eddie) is comforting you after you get rejected by your crush, who is his younger brother. And it’s kind of weird to pretend that’s one of the younger characters in the show, because of the age gaps and stuff. Idk. Maybe pretend it’s Steve ???? I really don’t know. Either way, I love the character here, I love the soothing rain noises, and I love this tale of unrequited love turned requited. This is a really good one in my opinion

The last two are by a different user (I have been meaning to check out their profile to see if they have anymore Eddie-esque stuff) but if you are an Eddie fan and you only listen to one or two on this whole list, listen to one of these. 

Getting Dicked Down By The DM (Version 1) - Eddie, your roommate who has recently convinced you to join his “D&D cult” ends up getting into something with you after he finds out that his Billy Loomis impression turns you on. so the first time I came across this, I was surprised that there was no tags on this. like not really any description of kinks or whatever. but I am so so glad that I listened to it anyway. oh my god. all the unhinged chaotic energy that Eddie has is brought here (I have no clue if the character this guy is going is inspired by Eddie or if this is just a beautiful coincidence, but oh my god). Everything from him ordering the pizza - which, you could totally interpret him as doing a weird/funny impression of Argyle - to him being so obnoxious while talking about horror movies, to the fucking noises he makes, which are so Eddie. fair warning, he will just randomly make the most unhinged Eddie noises, and because it’s initially so whisper quiet, you will be tempted to turn up the volume loud, and then he will just fucking scream in your ear out of nowhere and scare you. and I was like: if that’s not the Eddie Munson sex experience, I don’t know what is. I was mildly annoyed and turned on, and that is 100% what it would be like to actually fuck him. 

Getting Dicked Down By The DM (Version 2) - Eddie invites you over to help you work on your D&D character, and when he sees the outfit you have showed up in, the sexual tension is ripe. You make a bold move and he shows you exactly where your place is (on your knees for the Master). So after I listened to the first one, I was really intrigued to see what the second one had to offer. It is the same character, but it is a completely different set up, not a continuation of the same story, because it’s an initiation of a brand new sexual relationship (again) - which I definitely enjoy. I fucking love the part where he’s like “oh, convince me. Roll for persuasion” because I don’t even like D&D but that fucking got me. This character is sliiightly more tame than the absolutely unhinged guy in the first one, but just as hot. and the part where he says “shut up. I just wanna look at you” I have never been so sent by being told to shut up. I want Eddie Munson to tell me to shut the fuck up always.

I don’t know you guys, but I LOVE. A low budget tv show. Tv series with a million dollar budgets are cool,like Game of Thrones and lots of others.

But nothing, NOTHING,beats the feeling of a old tv show where is SO clear that they are broke. I’m talking about bad CGI,or no CGI at all, re-used sets and fresh faced cast. They can even get a bigger budget later on but it will never beat the rough looking first season/episode.

I’m talking about a show you can tell they are hanging by duck tape and the will of God!

…..and yes,I’m talking mostly about Merlin and the first seasons of Supernatural. Can you guys recommend me any of these types of shows????

Ciao! I just found your blog and I really enjoy it! I was wondering if you had any recs for Italian podcasts/youtube/something of that nature? I’m (supposedly) going study in Italy in a year. While I’ve taken a lot of classes and my writing/reading is pretty good, I’m still having trouble comprehending native speakers so I’d love to watch/listen to more Italian content! Grazie mille 💗

I can only recommend some podcasts, I don’t know many youtubers (maybe someone else will answer in the comments).

As for the podcasts:

Morgana, one of the most known in Italy, talks about the lives of “unconventional” women in history

Copertina talks about books

Alessandro Barbero, historian, talks about history, especially the Middle Ages

Blu notte, coming from the tv show with the same name, tells about the mysteries in the italian history

Ad alta voce, it’s not really a podcast but more of a collection of audiobooks, really well done (and useful to practice Italian because you can compare what you hear with the text of the book)

Anticorpi, a podcast about feminism and current events

Mitologia, about mythology

Risciò, talks about China, its history and society

Solferino 28, talks about important events and recurrences in Italian history

If you want to watch something too, you can check Raiplay, where you can watch a lot of programs aired and produced by Rai (the national television) for free, you just need to register to the website. There are also tons of documentaries and archives of the programs since the birth of Rai (you can also find the program Blu Notte that I mentioned above, if you want to watch it instead of just listening to it, I think they’re basically identical).
