Notes: Uwaaaaah… So terrible. Miyazaki’s style is something I’ve admired for a while, but it’s deceptively difficult for something so seemingly simple. The kicker is that its simplicity is what makes it so hard to replicate. It’s difficult trying to draw some sort of likeness when the lines are so minimalistic.

Actually, several firsts here. First time trying out Miyazaki’s style (so-so). First time trying to utilise a pencil brush in PS such that it gives the feel of a real pencil (hmm… so-so). First time attempting to replicate watercolour in PS (…… Nah. It looks like spray paint or a bad Copic job. Something to do with how I’m handling brush size and my stokes).

I’m not tagging it #fic: 1994 because this never happened, but on the other hand it is for Vee’s 1994 because I was rereading it when I nodded off at some point (I don’t remember how far I read) for a bit. What resulted was a strange dream with a very despondent Eren, and when I woke up I ended up sketching down what I could remember of it.

You could call this giftart.

So, to explain the panels; It’s night, he’s at home. He’s backlit by the moon there. What he’s looking at there behind him is actually Mikasa sleeping the sleep of the stoned on the sofa. He’s not happy about that, but he doesn’t have energy at the moment. Actually he’s kinda zoned out himself, not via pot but from apathy (WHAT? EREN? APATHETIC?). Okay maybe that’s not the right word. It’s a ‘whatever, I give up for the time being’ haze.

I suppose this is where the manga influence comes in because I was rereading a lot of that, too, because of the new chapter. He very consciously decides to bite into his thumb, steadily increasing pressure until his canine pierces it and he bleeds. Because I was omniscient in the dream, I was privy to the idea that it was one of his vices, or that everyone has a crutch and this was his or something. So instead of using pain to transform, he was doing damage to clear his head.

*shrug* Dreams are strange.

Oh-hoh! Now what kind of scene/who might I be drawing…

Not gonna lie. It started out as a joke sketch but this person with their jacket buttoned up and with aiguillettes did something to me.

The light sketch was accurate. Outlined his eyes too hard when going over lines I wanted, thus making him a bit too young.

Aaaahhhh well. I’ll redo it sometime when my hands cooperate a wee bit more. Might try it again tonight. (I have uniform kink. FORMAL WEAR. HNNNNGGGHH. Aiguillettes are like bondage knotwork for me.)

Okay, still not quite right but there’s the expression I was going for more.

Preview of my Shingeki no Kyojin equestrian team/disciplines AU. Levi is a showjumper. He rides a 16.1hh (i.e. 65in high at the withers - Levi at 160cm would be ~63in tall) solid black Anglo-Arabian mare of established French lines whom beautifully combines and displays characteristics from both parent breeds. She’s reasonably tall for her breed and elegant without being too dainty or slight of bone. His equipment is a standard cavesson bridle with a pelham bit (either lozenge or French link mouthpiece), double reins (no roundings). For safety, she also wears a running martingale. I haven’t decided on a name for her exactly as of yet, though I have a few ideas. I’d also consider suggestions.

(I changed the head and facial expression because HE WAS ANGSTING TOO MUCH IN THE ORIGINAL SETUP XDD; and also because I decided to expand this casual foray into a whole series that would connect together.)

SNK AU - Equestrian disciplines: Levi by dawn-phoenix | Kadaj-Souba

Okay, it’s still not finished yet as Levi’s clothes need more shading detail - he looks too simplistic compared to his mare (also the bench needs to be drawn in ROFL) - but I decided to get it up now, else my perfectionist self would always find some excuse to never post it. I’ll update the WIP gif of the process soon enough, for those that are interested.

This is the first introduction into my Shingeki no Kyojin equestrian team/disciplines AU.

Levi Discipline: Jumping. Horse: Liberté. Height: 16.1hh (i.e. 65in high at the withers - Levi at 160cm would be ~63in tall). Breed: Anglo-Arabian mare. Tack: Standard cavesson bridle with a pelham bit, Cambridge mouthpiece, double reins (no roundings), running martingale, breastplate, jumping saddle. Equipment: Hard hat, show jacket, shirt, gloves, white breeches, long leather riding boots, Prince of Wales spurs.

Next up, Eren.

Preview of Eren’s horse in the Shingeki no Kyojin equestrian disciplines AU series.

I don’t have a name decided yet, but part of me thinks Eren is the type to name his horse something like Jaegermeister because he honesty thinks it’s cool and matches his surname. XD; That or something like Hope/Hoff, Gestalt. Totally taking name suggestions btw, feel free to suggest some! Throw anything you can think of in there that might suit. You can reply here or just dump them in my Ask.

Some background first and foremost.

Eren Jäger (TUR?/GER) is a blazing hot newcomer in the upper-echelons of the showjumping world, but with outrageous determination and bravery which has blasted him with success onto the scene. He rides a 16.3hh Thoroughbred stallion who’s as crazy and hot-headed as he is sometimes, but who attempts every jump placed in front of him and usually clears them with flying colours.

I modeled him after Gem Twist, a famous Thoroughbred showjumper. Gem Twist, however, was gelded and as such I’ve given Eren’s horse - whom as mentioned earlier is a stallion - a marginally more substantial neck and slightly more bone in the head. Gem Twist himself wasn’t the type of thin, lean, size-zero Thoroughbred seen on the racetrack but instead had a good bit of substance and bone above and below the knee. Obvious, when you consider the muscles needed to jump like he did.

An Eruri waltz.

This was a very specific image I had and piece of lineart done for the cover piece of an Eruri oneshot fanfic by one of my closest friends, smallsmiles, on deviantART. The fic was actually a birthday fic for one of her friends, but I decided to offer. Since I did not have a tablet at the time (I do now, as smallsmiles and her sister hanatsukuri actually gifted me one, for which I am forever grateful), and since I kinda suck at colouring and find it more stressful than relaxing, I tend to leave all shading to them. My method at the time was to sketch on paper, snap a photo, and then mail to smallsmiles and hanatsukuri for levels processing, etc.

Two slightly different versions, mainly to do with the angle of Levi’s head, which should be canted to one side in my mind. The second sketch is what ended up being shaded and used for the cover piece.

Again, this is another one of my pieces which is technically not finished (I shall never be satisfied…) but decided to upload now else I never would. Perhaps getting it up here in the public domain will kick my arse into gear more often to actually get things finished.

Here’s the first one. The others won’t come for another while… but one thing it’s taught me is that I had no idea Bottas is only about 2 inches taller than me. :D

I haven’t got good reference photos for what the Melbourne paddock (or any paddock really) looks like at the correct angles needed to for a good background, and I can’t be arsed drawing loads of photographers. (x__x)

The first week of racing is hell. He’s fitter and stronger than during winter testing but the team can’t keep him hidden as well from the press like they did then.

It doesn’t stop him from striding through the paddock, baby strapped to his chest, sunglasses on, horde of press following in his wake.
