I’m seeing a lot of people claim that the remaining hostages, by virtue of being IDF members are not hostages but prisoners of war. Which, fine, you can make that argument. But if that was the case, under the Third Geneva Convention, prisoners of war have very specific rights, including not being held in close confinement, not being tortured, getting adequate food and water, being given access to medical treatment, being allowed contact with the outside world and their loved ones, and of course visitation by the International Red Cross.

Not a single one of these conditions has been met. They aren’t prisoners of war. They’re hostages. And the International Red Cross doesn’t care about Jews.

The most astounding development in the past year and a half has been the unquestioning acceptance of a paradigm wherein the heinous acts committed by the people of Gaza on October 7th are cited as proof of their morality and the righteousness of the Palestinian cause while simultaneously citing the Israelis (Jews) choice to restrain themselves from inflicting massive casualties and similar atrocities as irrefutable proof their irredeemable depravity.

I really, truly, can't stress enough how much the constant use of the word 'martyr' bothers me.

Martyrdom, dying for a cause that you believe in, implies that the individual who died has agency in what caused their death. Civillians caught up in warfare do not have agency in the matter. They are not martyrs, they are VICTIMS. And it is frankly insulting to imply otherwise, especially about children.

The phrase "glory to the martyrs" is a celebration of death, it has been said by Hamas officials themselves that they want more women children and elderly people to die because it fuels the "revelutionary spirit." This is a death cult, who actively encourage their members to get themselves and as many people around them killed as possible. It's reprehensible, and you only encourage it by buying into their martyrdom narrative.

If you value human life, you cannot run with this narrative. Live for what you believe in.
