Today’s #WCW is Ambria Quick. Ms. Quick obtained her B.S. in Civil Engineering at NC A&T SU in December 2016. She is currently a structural field and office engineer in south texas fabricating and constructing an offshore platform that will sit off of the coast of Brazil for a major oil & gas corporation. In the past, She completed an internship at NASA Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida (worked on the Space Launch System in support to the mission to mars), 2 co-op oppurtunities with marathon petroleum company in Findlay, OH (1st co-op: as a project engineer for aboveground storage tanks; 2nd co-op: as a Pipeline Maintenance and Reliability Engineer) and 1 internship with Chevron in Houston, TX (worked as a Facilities Structural Design Engineer for an FPSO that will be located off the shore of the Shetland Islands) Her goal is to obtain a Professional Engineering (P.E.) license and continue working as a structural design engineer overseas. Today’s WCW is Aleaha Schenck. Ms. Schenck is a senior Chemistry major at North Carolina Central University. In the fall, Ms. Schenck will be attending NC State University for a Ph.D. in chemistry with an inorganic concentration. Her career goal is to be a cosmetic chemist and make beauty products for women of color. Happy #WCW Beautiful STEM Gems! Today’s WCW is dedicated to Ms. Kiara Whittle. Ms. Whittle completed her undergraduate degree in chemistry from the great, Clark Atlanta University. She is currently awaiting her acceptance into a graduate Toxicology program. Research Interests: -Understanding the links between the enviornment and health risks. -The mode of action of toxicants and disease pathogenesis. Specifically, 9/11 rescue workers that have contracted a blood disease from the incident. Career Goals: Become a Toxicologist for the FDA and find a way to create and implement cost effective medicial drugs in minority communities that struggle with healthcare. Start a STEM mentoring program to create a space for brown and black children to see that people like them can be in STEM fields and become successful.
