You never had to worry about mora in your life. As one of Inazuma's most dominant commerce clans, money came and went from your hands like water.

Needless to say, meeting and falling in love with the housekeeper of your good business associates – the Kamisato clan – was a whirlwind of events.

You've seen him before.

Whenever you'd drop by with presents to show lady Ayaka, he would be tidying the rooms or gardens, occasionally next to the commissioner. A foreigner in Inazuma wasn't exactly common, he caught your interest solely because of that.

He'd serve you tea as you chat with Ayaka. A small smile on his face, standing in the background like a wallflower but you can't help the way your eyes would divert to him.

You'd see him more often on your frequent outings to the commercial districts. He would be haggling prices, forming connections and budget his daily errands. You've grown familiar to his tasks.

You'd invite him to accompany you since you're going the same way and Thoma would try his best to escort you (not that you don't have a handful of your own bodyguards eyeing him warily).

Thoma whose eyes go a little wider whenever you make a "reckless" purchase, letting your entourage hold all your bags. You'd giggle at him before offering him a "small" thank you gift for the company (it's one of the most expensive things he owns now).

And the rest is history—

Thoma who wasn't sure where to take you out for a friendly date. You insist that he take you to his favorite restaurant, so he brings you to a local hole-in-the-wall canteen that sells the best takoyaki (a place you've never thought to explore outside of the glamorous shopping district, and a food you've never seen so... humbly made).

But you're in love. Your heart beats a little louder, a lot faster, and he's blushing a little talking about how this probably isn't all that impressive for you and he could always take you to somewhere nicer but you're insisting to stay because — archons damnit — he's so cute using a toothpick to feed you.

You who aren't restrained or bothered by traditional ideals of the nobility. Your household was wealthy enough to do what they wanted, even in the face of criticism, so your free-spirited and spoiled attitude was a delight to entertain!

You who run up to Thoma every time you see him, unbothered by the curious stares of people for interacting with a houseworker. In a way, you wanted Thoma to feel welcomed around you. You wanted him to know that it didn't matter to you what his status was at all!

What you didn't account for was that it mattered to him. He's glad to be your friend, even more so the object of your infatuation but... this really isn't something that should work out.

So he breaks up with you. You who has everything in life except for the person you love.

He's so kind about it too So, so kind that you find it hard to be mad at him when he's apologetically holding your cheek, voice low and soft as he tells you you're just both too different.

It could start raining while you're breaking up and he'd give you an umbrella because he knows just how much your clothes are worth (hint: more than his salary, that's for sure) and he's just thoughtful that way, it makes your heart clench even more

imagine going back to the same life you've lived but it feels grey now. It's different, and high society starts to feel a little more stuffy without Thoma by your side.

So you go through the motions of moving on; you find someone new, a noble, you date, and he brings you to these fancy places you've tried before. He buys you bags and clothes, new additions to your closet (unlike the little wooden charm bracelet Thoma got you that sits between golds and silvers); he knows how to perform every step in a dance (unlike Thoma who drags you along with the flow, laughing while your bodies sway to the beat).

You get married for the good of your clan and you convince yourself that it's fine. He's a great person, and everyone benefits, right?

So when the Kamisato representatives arrive to the glamorous and classy wedding, and you see Thoma, a simple retainer.

He stands nothing against your new influential partner, yet you'd give anything to experience the love he gave you again.

On November 24th, 2018, I posted a list of major deletions of sites or of content on sites that stripped fandom of its history. A bunch of pro-shipper blogs had just been deleted, and people were nervous. I suppose I was thinking “All this has happened before…”

On December 3rd, 2018, Tumblr’s Department of Irony announced the NSFW ban. Thanks for providing this salutary lesson to The Youth and a billion reblogs to me, I guess.

Today, we have AO3 for writing. Audio, images, and video are in as much danger as ever, yet fans attack AO3 every donation drive. For those of you who forget our past…

This is only a small taste of the many times that:

Fannish moderators got bored, ran out of money, or had a falling out, deleting a site/list/forum along the way.

Sites got bought out and closed for being unprofitable.

Fandom got hit as governments targeted piracy or political dissidents.

Fans grudge reported each other.

Official forums got deleted when the canon finished.

It’s not always malicious. It’s not always about us. But we lose every time.

Some of these purges hit everyone. Many of them hit m/m content specifically or female gaze-y material in general. This is why antis are dead wrong. This is why anti-fujoshi policies end up being anti-m/m policies. This is why we need clear labeling, not content restrictions.

This is why we need AO3.

And it’s why we need a solution for audio, visuals, and video too.
