This is my fourth week on the Sassoon Online course witth Mark, Richie and Traci. As far as cutting goes, this course has been great for revising and learning new techniques. The more you learn, the more you realise how much more there is to learn.

Yesterday was the first hands on with @tracisak_hair and this is how it all came together

1) Traci was cutting in her home in LA

2) Mark was in London, managing the control portal and

3) liaising along with 100 of us across geographies, cutting live on Zoom and

4) Tens of thousands more joining in to watch and learn on Facebook Live. 💪🏼💪🏼 We did an avant garde #boblike haircut on our doll head and it was super, duper, trooper fun.

It may look like an innocent Bob (there's nothing innocent about a square Bob) and what makes it so special are the internal layers that create all the magic and movement.

July started early and busy with Reva @modireva . This new normal is going to take some time to get used to. 1) Greeting people with masks and face shields 2) Greeting people by pointing an infra thermometer at them instead of a hug 3) Greeting people with spraying disinfectants instead of a cup of tea But not here to complain, only and only to thank because I still get to do what I love most and feel thoroughly loved as my chair gets the best! #DoctorAppreciationPost Today's post is special, especially in current times. Meet Dr. Lakshmi Shobhavat. She's a pediatric intensivist - in plain english, she cares for seriously ill infants and children or those who need a high-level of monitoring in a specialized unit. Whenever I talk to her, I'm only filled with awe and gratitude. We did a bit of a makeover (before Corona entered our lives) to get rid of the limp and bring in the bounce. Loved my time with her! One of my life's goals as a hairstylist is to get my clients to step away from the big and bouncy blow-dry. It is nasty on so many levels. Of course it's damaging to the hair and impossible for the client to replicate after the first shampoo but my gripe with it is not just that. I'm against what it stands for. The unreal, round brush finished look is once again telling you that your natural texture is not good enough. Your beautiful imperfections need fixing and I have a huge problem with that. Like you, I'm also constantly trying to teach myself to be gentle on me and I want all my heads too to love more and pick less especially when it comes to their own hair. All you need is a good haircut and nothing after that. Remember your stylist must spend 90 per cent of the service time in cutting and consultation and only the remaining 10 or lesser on styling. There are days I get curious about how I will look when I get older. Like solid old. I know there are apps to do that. But I have something better. This is my mother aka Amma. A bob haircut has had such a fascinating history. This particular cut, called the Flapper Bob is from the 1920's. It created such a stir at the time. Simply put, long hair was considered feminine and short hair was not. There were legends like dancer Irene Castle and opera singer, Mary Garden among few others who paved a path towards short hair as an acceptable style. But I want to share a quote by actress Mary Pickford who did not bob. “I could give a lengthy and, I think, convincing discourse about long hair making a woman more feminine, but there is some doubt in my mind as to whether it does or not. Of one thing I am sure: she looks smarter with a bob, and smartness rather than beauty seems to be the goal of every woman these days.” We have come a long way. Beauty goals have changed. Personally I have gone from hip-length hair to cropped mullet while feeling ridiculously sexy with all lengths. Cutting Lisa's hair was inspiring. I'm so glad we did this!
