OPEN MIC NIGHTS in Sonoma County
Please contact venues and hosts with questions. This is information found on the internet and I am not an organizer for any of these events except Edgy Open Mic on Thursdays.
MONDAYS:
COFFEE CATZ, once a month on the second Monday of the month, sign-ups start at 5:30 PM and the show starts at 6 PM
6761 Sebastopol Ave., Ste. #300, Sebastopol, Phone: (707) 829-6600
Tips: Confirm monthly date by checking the calendar on their website: http://www.coffeecatz.net/
THE REAL OPEN MIC, A’roma Roasters Cafe, hosted by Jaslyn Paige, Cesar “Crow” Lopez and Caitie Ferro, sign-ups start at 6:30pm, show runs 7-10pm
95 5th St., Santa Rosa, (707) 576-7765
TUESDAYS:
TUESDAY OPEN MIC AT BREW, 7-9:30 PM, signups at 6:30 PM, hosted by Tyler and Zoe
555 Healdsburg Ave., Santa Rosa, CA
Star’s Review: Brew is a cozy, friendly venue with limited “stage” space. There is often quite a good crowd here that is supportive and into the show. There is a reoccurring Facebook event (”Tuesday Open Mic at Brew”) through which you can find more information.
OPEN MIC WITH CENI, 7:30 PM - 11 PM (sign-ups at 7 PM), hosted by Ceni
Hopmonk Tavern Sebastopol, 230 Petaluma Ave, Sebastopol, CA
Tips: Performers typically start arriving very early to wait for sign-ups, around 6 PM. Time slots are 10 minutes or two songs, but this event also has a “headlining” slot where one musician or group performs for one half hour starting around 9 PM.
Star’s Review: This is a high class venue. Host Ceni is kind and supportive, and often lets the show run overtime. Many of the headliners are excellent, and Ceni makes an effort to showcase variety in this primetime spot. Ceni has a Facebook Page: “Open Mic with Ceni” but does not consistently create Facebook events.
WEDNESDAYS:
THE ARLENE FRANCIS CENTER, 8 PM - 10:30 PM or later (sign ups at 7:30 PM), open to anyone to host (with advance arrangements)
99 W. 6th Street, Santa Rosa, CA
Star’s Review: The audience and performers for this event skew towards youthful, but all are welcome. I see the most avant-garde and therapeutic performances here. Sometimes the open mic takes place in the cafe, and sometimes on the main stage.
HOPMONK TAVERN SONOMA, hosted by Matt, 7:30 PM
691 Broadway, Sonoma, CA
JAMISON’S ROARING DONKEY, hosted by Mike Nordstrom, signups at 9pm
146 Kentucky St., Petaluma, (707) 772-5478
RAY’S DELICATESSEN AND TAVERN, 6 PM - 9 PM, sign-ups at 5:30 PM
900 Western Ave., Petaluma, Phone: (707) 762-9492
TRADEWINDS, 9pm, hosted by Tre Jones
8210 Old Redwood Hwy., Cotati, Phone: (707) 795-7878
Notes: Time slots are 15-30 minutes depending on availability. Signups begin the Thursday before; sign up by visiting the bar, calling or sending a Facebook message. Open to music, comedy and poetry.
THURSDAYS:
EDGY OPEN MIC, 7:45 PM - 10:45 PM, sign-ups at 7:30 PM, hosted by Star Blue (This Open Mic does NOT take place on the third Thursday of the month, which is Open Vinyl Night at Whiskey Tip), featured performers play at 9 PM for 25 minutes
Whiskey Tip, 1910 Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa, CA
Notes: This open mic that is run by the person who created this list. I have a Facebook Page “Edgy Open Mic” through which you can find official Facebook Events and an Instagram account @edgyopenmic. Due to high turnout, time slots are one song or four minutes. This is a very open-minded mic open to all kinds of performance modality and musical genre, with no restrictions on language. 21 and over.
SUNDAYS:
*NEW: CROOKS COFFEE OPEN MIC, 4 to 7 PM (signups at 3 PM), hosted by Steph Chevalier and Hunter Anderson
404 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa, CA
Note: time slots are 10 minutes
