just know i'm seconding everything @lunarfuneral said but, in addition:

the first time she notices, they're in the break room and he reaches his hands overhead to grip the top of the door, leaning almost scarily far forward to say hey, mel, STEMI incoming, you want in? she spins away from the fridge to give him an affirmative answer, but then she notices it: thick, dark hair trailing from his exposed navel all the way down down down, dipping into the seam of his briefs, more of it spilling out over top, and she's so caught off guard that she drops her yogurt cup on the floor. you okay? he asks, worried, and she snaps her eyes to his face, nodding. y-yeah, of course, let's go.

now that she's aware of it, she starts trying to find ways to see more. she intentionally leaves equipment on the opposite side of the gurney so he has to reach for it forcing his hems to ride up. when she drives him home from work once - his car was in the shop - she keeps the A/C off until sweat starts pooling along his forehead, and he has to lift both shirts to wipe it away. when she spots a bleeder that is about to burst, she reacts just a second too slow so he gets hosed with it, watching with her hands clasped at her chest as he yanks the scrub top over his head by the scruff, his t-shirt underneath going with it for long enough that she can see the patterns all the way up to his chest.

the first time he notices, they're at robby's summer barbecue before the start of the year. the new interns are there, huddling together like little ducklings who have been stranded by their mother. robby had just bought this new place out in the suburbs with a pool and a fancy patio situation. (i don't know what screams "mid-life crisis" more. this place, or the motorcycle, frank had whispered in her ear when they arrived.) mel is sitting at the edge of the with her legs dangling into the water, wearing little more than a pair of shorts and a bikini top. her transition lenses aren't dark enough to hide the fact that she's skating her eyes up and down the exposed planes of his chest, tracing the patterns of hair, licking her lips before samira calls her into another conversation. oh, he thinks.

he wants her to break first. wants her to be the one to say what she wants. it's a little mean, maybe, but he can see it happening in slow motion the more he pushes. he stops wearing t-shirts under his scrub top, the low v-neck revealing a tuft of hair at the top. he intentionally bunches the fabric up when he puts his hands on his hips as he oversees her sutures. he waits for her before he changes in the locker room, continuing conversation placidly while shirtless.

(it works. he drives her home after a shift - it's her car's turn for maintenance - and she pounces on him the second the driver's side door is closed, her fingers slipping beneath the fabric and raking over the hair, mouth already open and wet and desperate against his own. when she pulls, he stutters against her lips. oh, he thinks again.)

Sometimes, a fic doesn't have to get published, it can just be a series of messages on a Discord channel, between a dedicated group of friends going "oooh, you know what else would be cool?" continuously over a period of weeks and months :)

one of my favorite things about kingdon is how you can already tell that langdon's gonna be so stupid in love & hopelessly devoted to mel in a way that is completely detrimental to his brand. he won't be able to stop how radically she (and his love for her) softens him. <3 and of course it's especially gold bc it'll be completely obvious to everybody but mel.

Some people are really uncomfortable with the idea that Samira is, in fact, good at her job, and seem unable to discuss her character flaws and nuances without feeling the need to deeply exaggerate them. Like, she is such a deeply fascinating character with plenty of interesting elements, and part of that is the fact that there are situations in which she could be moving faster, but no, she absolutely did not spend several hours only treating one patient. That's not what happened. People that discuss her similarities with Robby are not "missing" the fact Robby worked on a lot of patients and also supervised his residents, we're pointing out the true facts that he was ordering unnecessary tests; his supervision of his residents was deeply flawed and involved pretty much ignoring both Mel and Javadi all day; and he has had two decades more experience than her.

I find it just so deeply aggravating when people say stupid things under the belief they're being nuanced and analytical. Ugh. Be smarter.

Mel and Langdon are still getting to know each other and she makes one of her awkward little off beat jokes that doesn’t exactly land. Langdon looks at her a little confused, but deeply amused and endeared by it and just goes “You’re funny, Mel.”

What he means she’s just a touch strange just slightly off the beaten path and he finds himself endeared by all these quirks that make Mel, Mel.

What she understands it to mean it that he got her joke. She made him laugh even if it’s just the twitch of his lips and the crinkles by his eyes deepening as they shine, handsome chin dimple flashing.

Mel beams up at him clutching her stethoscope, so genuine in her appreciation as she says, “Thank you, Dr. Langdon.”

mel and frank soulmating so hard but under the illusion of Besties that frank tells her about his and abby's wishes for another child but abby's birth with millie was traumatic and mel offers herself up as a surrogate

i don't smoke, i don't drink, i don't have any known allergies, she tells him in a flurry, i know vital prenatal care and i've banked a lot of time off since i've been here.

but frank doesn't listen because all he can think about is mel carrying his baby

spoiling her with treats and foot massage certificates and stocking her fridge with the best foods to help their baby grow healthy. going to every appointment and carrying the ultrasound picture in his wallet. answering mel's texts at 2 a.m. while abby's asleep because mel's emotional! and she needs him! and he has to make sure their baby is okay duh!

waddling around her apartment in her soft pajamas and slippers with her hair down, sending frank videos of every time their baby kicks.

and no, while abby may know that mel's carrying a baby on their behalf, she's not privy to how it all went down. and how she's slowly being pushed out of the picture.
