Where the Wild Roos Are

This is a place to outline my very own study abroad experience for everyone who is interested enough to read. Come and go as you please. it will be updated with all of my events, travels, pictures, and happenings. And please, bear with me. I've never had a website/blog/anything that requires a detailed recollection of what is going on in my life, so only constructive criticisms! Thanks for taking the time to stay updated. :)

So here I am, writing my first post about all of my thoughts before I leave. As of now, it is 1:15 am, and I am sitting in my bed slowly losing my head to the pressures of sleep. I will try to keep it brief and concise before my laptop falls to the floor. I am unequivocally thrilled for this trip, though at the same time, extremely nervous. I'm not too sure how well I will get along with the other 30 or so members of my program (if all goes according to plan, than I should have 30 more friends by the end of next week). What worries me more is that I will be cut off from my family and friends for a total of 6 months. Not that I won't stay in contact, but I will be missing the face to face communication with everyone that I have thoroughly gotten to know throughout my life. I am literally starting from scratch; I will not know anyone. At least coming to college, I could say I knew a few people, and family was only a short plane ride away. But in Australia, I will be completely independent, for money, for food, and for social activities. For those of you that don't know, I will tell you a little bit about my program. I am going to a smaller city (around 300,000 residents, so not quite as large as Sydney or Melbourne) called Newcastle, and I am going with a program that is not affiliated with UCSD, a program called Globalinks. They group people from around the United States and fly them off on the same plane to the same University, while doing a few amazing things in addition, like creating an entirely separate country orientation. They've worked with me throughout the planning process and I never would have expected that preparing to study abroad would be that easy. I will talk further on the program later, once I see how everything works out, including their Bridging Cultures Orientation. Anyways, I said that I was going to make this a short post and it's already pretty long. Congratulations on making it this far in my first post and not strangling yourself. If your still interested, I will be detailing the events of my trip, as well as posting pictures and videos to this blog. It also provides me a way to mess with HTML code, which, being a computer science major, will prove to be useful. Thanks for reading. I'm off to bed.
