my most toxic trait is i fucking love work gossip. i play neutral not to be the bigger person or take the high road but to hear slander and hearsay from every side. two coworkers complained about each other to me in the same afternoon and i nearly blacked out from the rush

The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.

Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.

So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.

Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

btw important clarification: Duke chose the morning shift himself. the sentiment that bruce needed someone to patrol in the morning is straight up untrue, duke's early training was right beside batman solving crimes and chasing criminals at night but as he was figuring out his place in the Gotham vigilante scene working at night just did not work for him. Eventually he chose to work during the daytime specifically because of his mother's ideology, that it's easier to recognize truth in the light, and because it allows him better direct access to the people of Gotham.

Duke is a very community centered character. He is big on his beliefs about it and redemption. Saying Bruce chose the day for him removes Duke's agency as a character and is a fundamental misunderstanding of him. He was Gothams robin (not batman's) for a reason. he was going to do his "protect and uplift the community by any means" thing no matter what, he was doing it before he even met bruce and it was the reason they met in the first place. he works in the morning because it's where the people are and it's the best way to see them in all their truths and complexities and for them to see him and know that everything is going to be okay

what? oh, sorry, i was just thinking about how after the passing of everyone in the fellowship — including gimli, frodo, and sam in valinor in front of the eyes of gandalf and legolas — legolas probably felt a deep emptiness without his companions and could only be understood from that point on by gandalf, who also felt great sadness after the passing of the other members. legolas and gandalf probably saw one another as the last remaining memory of their time with the fellowship and began to seek out one another like a mentor would with a protégé, or like a father would with a son. as we know thranduil (who may or may not have ended up in valinor) could only sympathize so much with legolas, but only gandalf can share this deep love, loss, and companionship with him. i imagine them needing to rely on one another to help coast through the grief as it tangles them up, and they very often express their gratitude for one another. i do think legolas would begin to look at gandalf as a fatherly figure, especially if thranduil does not go to valinor, and it is with gandalf that he feels most safe and acknowledged. i imagine also that gandalf sees legolas like that of a son, someone who has shared his burdens and his losses, and he becomes keenly aware of his every feeling without even needing to ask. maybe they have a silent reliance on one another, or maybe they are vocal about how much they need one another now to stay afloat, but either way i believe they depend on one another more than they even realize themselves

Inspired by recent discourse I am screaming, crying, and begging comic book readers to realize that their blorbos are subject to the whims of a revolving door of writers—some of whom fucking hate eachother—who are in turn subject to the directives of a capricious and mercurial editorial.

You cannot treat them like characters from books who are the products of a singular authorial vision. Once you accept that each twist and turn in (mis)characterization will be easier to bare.

The best way I can describe to an allo person how you feel about sex as a topic as a sex-repulsed or averse asexual is that it feels like a hype that never ends. As though Despicable Me came out and everyone around you was sending minion facebook memes to each other for years to come. The stores are full of minion themed products; they're in ads and your friends talk about them all the time. And deep in your heart you're like "I'm glad that they're able to enjoy something I personally don't like and am not interested in :3". But there is always this little voice in the back of your head that's like "If I have to see ONE MORE of these little yellow FUCKERS today then God help us all." You make an active choice to communicate only the former.
