First sessions with these three in the books.
The bay mare (5yo Twin Peaks, not yet named) is a big energy conserver with a lot of power when she decides to use it. She took a half hearted run at a panel when I first got into the pen with her, then quickly decided that was stupid. By the end of the hour, I was scrubbing her face with a dressage whip type stick and approaching being able to touch her neck with it.
The buckskin gelding (8yo White Mountain, Cooper) is a recent band stallion and it shows. He crashed panels twice just because people were nearby, but we have 135lb galvanized steel for a reason. He arrived with that blood on his face, and it’s not a mystery how he got it there. He’s an athlete and had no idea what to do with humans. By the end of his first hour, he was facing up and standing quietly about 10 feet from me. Later, I brought a gentle mare to graze near his pen, and he willingly inched closer to investigate.
The brown gelding (6yo Muskrat Basin, Merlin) is an absolute DUDE. The one you hope you get. The makeover candidate. He’s only had people for 30 minutes but if anything ever happened to them,

oml babyyyy y'all fed her so well she decided to turn into a giant

Reason umpteen not to romanticize the wild life: these mustang fillies are almost exactly the same age, from the same herd origin. One was born on the farm and received custom nutrition through most of her gestation and all of her life. The other was born “wild and free.”
