Longfloor Liquid Cement Screed Which Moisture Test? https://youtu.be/O2HQ5iN2JXI I'm Andy Parkin from Screed Testing. So you are at that important time when you need to know if your screed is dry, but you are unsure which moisture testing method is suitable for your screed. The moisture testing methods for Longfloor Liquid Cement Screed are: Testing can be carried out by using the Calcium Carbide test or CM test as it is known, where a sample of the screed is taken and tested in the chamber, giving an immediate result. A relative humidity test can be carried out using the hydro hood or a humidity sleeve. Non-destructive moisture meter for measuring quantitative moisture content as percentage moisture. The CMEX5 also provides a Carbide Method equivalent. Read the full article

Carbide Bomb Test
Carbide Bomb Test https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyNcWG_2nos&ab_channel=ScreedTesting Carbide Bomb (CM) Test The Carbide Bomb test is also known as the CM test. It was designed to measure the moisture content of a wide range of products. Carbide Bomb (CM) Test The Carbide Bomb test is also known as the CM test. It was designed to measure the moisture content of a wide range of products. However, it is used extensively for screed and concrete. The measurement is the percentage moisture of a given sample before the laying of sensitive floor coverings. It can be used for all screed and concretes, even fast-drying screeds that act by chemically binding the majority of construction moisture where a relative humidity or electrical impedance device cannot be used. Typical Target Measurements Are: • Concrete/sand cement slabs/screeds: • 2.5% CM without underfloor heating installed • 1.5% CM with underfloor heating • Anhydrite/Hemi-Hydrate screeds: • 0.5% CM without underfloor heating installed • 0.3% CM with underfloor heating installed. The test is carried as follows: • The sealed vessel should be thoroughly cleaned before each test is carried out. This will prevent any discrepancies with the results • The CM test involves removing a sample of the slab/screed and crushing using a mortar and pestle, then weighing the required amount. The sample is then placed into the pressure vessel in a horizontal position. • Calcium carbide reagent is then added to the vessel. The cap is inserted into the pressure vessel, and the clamp is tightened to seal the cap to the unit. • The vessel is then turned to a vertical position and is vigorously shaken in a rotating motion for 20 seconds. • It is then rested for 20 seconds and then continue again for a further 20 seconds, with the process continuing for 3 minutes. • Calcium Carbide, when in contact with moisture, produces acetylene gas. The higher the moisture concentration, the more gas is produced, which is read as pressure from the devices gauge. Screed Moisture Testing London

Screed Moisture Testing London

After having a calcium sulphate screed laid on a project in London. The client wanted to lay his engineered wooded flooring. Knowing the moisture content of the screed was critical, getting it wrong would have serious implications for the wood. Having already commissioned the underfloor heating, which would dramatically assist the drying process. Confirmation of the moisture was needed. The floor was first assessed using the Tramex CMEX5 meter set to the CM reading. Once the wettest areas had been identified a calcium carbide test could be used to give instant confirmation of the moisture content of the screed. The floor had underfloor heating pipes encased within the screed. We had to identify the location of the pipes using thermal imaging so as to avoid any risk of damage when taking the samples. Once the sample was taken it was double-bagged so as to keep the material in a controlled environment. The sample was then tested using the calcium carbide method (CM method). Results of the test indicated if the wooden flooring could be installed safely or not. Don't Risk It. Test It. Read the full article

Moisture Testing With Tiles Laid?

Moisture Testing With Tiles Laid?

CMEX5 Testing for the area with the highest moisture.

Tile removed. Heating pipes located.

Screed sample taken.

Screed sample bagged, and ready for calcium carbide testing

Screed tested with Speedy Tester The project requirement was to test the screed moisture content in a screed where the tiles had been laid. Using the Tramex CMEX5 allowed us to find the highest moisture reading on the floor, without removing any tiles. Once located the tiles were removed in the area, thus allowing access to the floor screed. Read the full article
