Hi, so for that one anon that asked about my overall character arc idea for Noelle – sorry that I didn’t really answer your question earlier (I’ve been thinking of how to answer it for days but then when I actually had an answer I went to check and it wasn’t there… so here’s a text post instead, I hope you see it on my page somehow!

In terms of Noelle’s mental progression, I personally think that she’s become tougher during snowgrave, more willing to speak her mind. Noelle, before, always held this super polite, nice exterior, being willing to let people walk all over her and not confront anyone, but I think she’s holding back a lot of emotions – anger and despair at the fact that no one except for her dying father is able to comfort her and understand how much she misses her sister (and potentially at Kris, who should be the one that understood the most of her situation, to abandon her in such a way at her worst point). In the normal route, these emotions never have a chance to arise – the reconnection with Kris doesn’t bring up any of those spiteful emotions, and are overridden by her feelings of nostalgia. The weird route simply recontextualises those repressed emotions in a way that feeds into her helplessness and want for control, and therefore the standoff-ish, more aggressive attitude I depict her in in both of my comics is a combination of grief-turned-controllable-spite towards Kris and her braver attitude in snowgrave.

There’s something else that I also find interesting about the weird route – it’s an interesting exploration of the idea of who is saving whom exactly (it’s very RGU-esque in that sense). There’s the princess/knight dynamic, and you would think that Kris is the one trying to rescue Noelle as the damsel in this situation, but at the same time, Kris is almost sort of the ultimate victim in this situation, the one with the least autonomy, the one being PHYSICALLY controlled and puppeted. With the whole “I have to figure out what’s going on” thing with Noelle, I definitely think she’s trying to find ways to “save” Kris from their situation and to get the old Kris back, which connects to what the dialogue of “I’m just trying to save you” that I put in the first comic. I sort of like to twist this idea, though – her desire to “save” Kris coincides with all of the other emotions she has about them, which is why I made the first comic I did.

There is no timeline for my comics, they’re not really connected in any sort of way, if you’re wondering, but both of them are comics set towards the tail end of the weird route. For “It’s not you” I imagine that it happens after Noelle has been forced to kill more darkners in later chapters, but for whatever reason, a fountain isn’t opened, and the player is forced to explore hometown endlessly while nothing happens. Noelle lures the player into her home using their own curiosity and desperation for new content as bait, by opening the gate to her house in order to get the alone and initiate a cutscene in which they’re unable to fight back because Noelle hasn’t officially started a battle (thus the backstab) (though I don’t think that she would canonically plan this far ahead, or even know about the cutscene thing, lol, all these thoughts are just set-up for that scene in the comic).

The second comic has slightly less thought, but I imagined it as a hypothetical scenario in which the player loses control over Kris somehow. Initially I planned it to be because the twisted sword (which gives the trance down effect) allows Kris to have almost full control over their body again and leaves the player muted, but I didn’t want to have to design a sword for this (but it can still be interpreted in that way). I imagine the comic to be set somewhere, maybe in the ice palace labyrinth, where they’re just wandering around alone together aimlessly, all of their emotions up until this point building up and spilling over as they have their first vulnerable conversation in years. I don’t think it would happen like this necessarily, if at all, but that’s just my thinking.

I don’t intend my comics to be predictions of the story, I just really like exploring these character dynamics in ways that are interesting to me. That being said, I do have an idea for a potential direction in which the story could go that’s only tangentially related to the comics I’ve made, which I’d very much like to create content for, and that plays into the horror of the weird route to a much larger extent… but that may be for another day.

Yo I love your art, you have such a unique style it's addicting to look at it. Now going through your gallery I was struck with inspiration and now I was thinking about what if Kyoka from PMMM and Bill Cipher from Gravity falls fused together. So if u want I'd adore for u to sketch it out because I'm sure you'd make such a fucking awesome design! Now even if u don't still thanks a bunch for all the awesome work!

it’s fine lol, probably other combos would make sense but i made the crossover with like. the idea of doomed yuri kriselle in mind. and i also really just wanted to draw noelle in a cute dress yknow. also i simply do not like sayaka’s design so theres a bit of bias here

I really enjoy the way you portray the Kriselle dynamic, it's really unique compared to what I usually see from this ship. Just wanted to say good job!

On another note though, any other Deltarune ship you like?

Hi, thanks again for the ask! i’m glad you like the way i portray kriselle! i think i view them quite differently from a lot of other people since the way i interpret them is based partially on my own experiences with relationships and romantic attraction, as well as the fact that i don’t view their relationship as stereotypically romantic at all (or even involve much romance at all?). i think there’s so much to be explored with their strained friendship even outside the player’s control… idk. i also talk to goomyloid a lot so a lot of my opinions/perspectives come from them as well…

honestly i’m not really interested in any romantic ships outside of kriselle, they don’t really grab me the same way, although i definitely do support a couple. i WANT suselle to be canon and think this is the best way to go for the normal route, and this is probably the closest i’ll get to shipping something here in a normal way (do not mistake my enthusiasm for kriselle for thinking that it should be canon whatsoever) (apart from in the weird route). i like krerdly sometimes a little… i just think its funny and silly and the art is cool. you probably won’t catch me drawing it tho bc i dunno how to draw berdly… i’ll learn one day probs. kralsei also has strong angst potential but i think thats for the ralsei enthusiasts to explore… for now i’m sticking to my lane.

Your art is so good, really gets me pondering things about Kris and Noelle’s dynamic.

Like your most recent one inspired me to think about this like: Do you ever think about the scenario of Kris remembering a past snowgrave route into a new save?

Kris being on edge, constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop, feeling sick every time they run into Noelle.

Meanwhile, Noelle, while not remembering, becomes more and more convinced that something has gone terribly, terribly wrong and that something horrible has happened to Kris.

And her feelings on the fact that despite their estrangement, she’s the only one who seems to have noticed something is wrong.

Thoughts?
