Ears Over Mouth

Listening is the key to friendship. I believe it is the key to success. If you really want to get somewhere in life you need to learn to listen, to pay attention. Listening is good for the soul, because it takes us away from our self-abasing and self-absorbing ways, and opens us up to receive some life from another source. 

I believe your ears are more important in conversation than your mouth. When you think about what you want in a conversation, it is mainly to be heard. You just want to be listened to and affirmed that whatever message you are conveying to the other person is being received with respect and worthiness. Give and it will be given to you.

I mainly write this for my own benefit, because my self-centeredness has really robbed me in a lot of ways from the wonder that is in the people all around me. As a song-writer I have so focused on myself and writing the best songs and finding out what is inside of me. I'm wondering now if the best songs are going to come out of hearing someone else's life, and in so hearing their heart I will find mine.

Anyway, it's late, but those are the thoughts I have right now. Not really sure if anybody will ever read this. I hope someone does, because I, like everyone else, also desire to be heard.
