He was busy grading papers when the knock came to his office door. Every few people came to his office, and even fewer knocked when they did. So he was on guard the moment the sound came. He stood up slowly and moved towards the door. He schooled his face into one of distaste before opening the door to the poor stupid who was there.

Since Troy's death, she'd put more and more onto the Executioner. She should feel bad about it, but she didn't. Pain and Terror were dead, and Jay lived. Through all the Vault Thief nonsense, Jay had survived. Just like her.

They were survivors.
