Actor Jonathan Joss was just murdered for being gay and married to a trans man. On the first day of pride 2025. He was best known for playing John Redcorn on King of the Hill.
Tumblr media
I had no idea he was gay but he was married to a man named Tristan Kern de Gonzales (on valentines day 2025!)
Tumblr media
They lived in San Antonio Texas where his family is from and he grew up. He was 59.
In Janurary 2025 his home was burned down which made news. It killed some of his beloved dogs. He didnt elaborate beyond he believed it was arson (gofundme is still up and i suggest donating to help his funeral costs and his husband
Update: de Gonzales says hes fine he just wants justice but i still think its nice)
Now we know he and his husband had been threatened by several neighbors for being queer. They told pigs, pigs being pigs did nothing before or after it happened.
Yesterday Joss and his husband went to check their mailbox wherein they found one of their dogs skulls (statement from his husband
Tumblr media Tumblr media
)
As they weeped and mourned in shock, a neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, came out and aimed at de Gonzales…but Joss jumped in front of the bullet and was instantly killed.
Ceja, homophobia murdering coward, tried to take off but de Gonzales had called pigs who vaguely tried to do something. He was arrested and his bail set for $200k. Or as my sister said who the fuck sets bail for a murderer?
San Antonio.
De Gonzales is clearly mourning, posting pics on Hoss’ fb page. This one really struck me
Tumblr media
This is why we need pride people, and not rainbow capitalism. Please donate to the gofundme and let san antonio cops knows what you think. De Gonzales said multiple neighbors had threatened them…id like to see those people investigated for arson.
Go into pride with rage and knowing. Have joy, kiss puppies, dont bow to homophobes. And maybe enjoy a little king of the hill.
UPDATE
Jonathan Joss’ husband Tristan kern de Gonzales identifies as trans on his facebook page.
Which explains the ramp up of hate and why the murderer shot at de Gonzales (Joss pushed him out of the way). So this is also a transphobia related murder

Memories Don’t Live Like People Do
I’m sure my affinity for photography started with my father. If you were just meeting him for the first time, it’s very likely it was while he was trying to get you in place for a photo. Mom helped develop my interests by taking me to museums and the constant encouragement of exploration and learning. But the basis for the interest was certainly Dad. If I think hard enough, it’s one of the…

Sweet Annoying Straphangers
They got on at 42nd Street. Their features only in my peripherals as I tried to read my book, half glancing at the platform trying to determine just how full the train would become. And while it didn’t get all that full, I knew the one empty seat would be taken and they took it.
I should clarify they. It was two young men. One darker skinned and gangly who took the empty seat. And his partner/friend/paramour who was similarly thin but more muscular; was closer to toffee or caramel in complexion. While one sat, the standing one stood squarely between his open legs, leaning in without fear. Not worried about what was happening around them. Caramel commented about how quiet the car was, almost inviting him to scream. Chocolate pleaded for him not to. But then they bounded into a cadence of conversation I kept hoping would end.
It wasn’t all that annoying in the grand scheme of things. It was actually quite tame. It became clear that Caramel was visiting. When Chocolate mentioned getting off at 110th, Caramel joked that he was making it up. That they were just numbers. He began to rattle off street names like Whalley and Dixwell as proper monikers for streets and I knew he was from New Haven. They must have walked or trained from Grand Central to our uptown 2.
There was excitement in their voices. They tried to be normal and kept the conversation mostly light. But they had been anticipating this meeting. Caramel joked about what would’ve happened if he had not come. Chocolate said he would not have been fazed. “I would’ve just been on the phone with you.” “Yeah right,” Caramel said and Chocolate did not offer a rebuttal or attempt to convince. There was understanding that this meetup was welcomed. And had it not happened there might have been repercussions. Hurt feelings at the least.
Between 72nd and 96th, Chocolate was definitely comfortable. He squeezed Caramel’s pockets and inquired what was within while immediately reaching in the pocket and pulling the item out. They then spoke about the $60 eighth in the container he pulled out. Chocolate wondered how high it would get them as he twisted it open and inspected, “like smacked or just high?”
He reiterated that it made sense to get off at 110th, to go smoke in the park before they made it to their destination. By the water. Caramel said it sounded good but also they needed to find a bottle as well. Which led to his expectation that there had to be a liquor store nearby, cause this is New York City, and there should be one on every corner. This led to a back and forth about the fate of Black folk and their smoking and drinking. Caramel’s main point was that the world was ending. Chocolate’s main point was just because a situation was at hand didn’t necessarily mean you had to bend yourselves to the supposed parameters the situation may have dictated. I’ve summarized their points a bit more succinctly than they posited. Chocolate kept tripping over his words in trying to get out his “scenario.” Caramel kept chiding and questioning him so the point didn’t ultimately gel. But Caramel got it out eventually. And they eventually agreed that they were at least in the same book, if not necessarily on the same page.
And just about then we pulled into 110th. Chocolate pulled himself up and I noticed he had a small Afro, partially matted in the back but had at one point been blown out. White tee, black shorts. Caramel had neat cornrows under a white headband, matching his white tank top and his brown terry shorts. Chocolate gathered himself as he rose and shared a glance with Caramel. They were mostly eye to eye, maybe Chocolate had a half an inch on Caramel. Chocolate quickly averted his eyes and into his bag, theoretically making sure he had everything. To a degree, I think he was looking for his composure amidst his excitement. They were one step closer to whatever they had planned to do. When Caramel took the day off work. And bought the train ticket. He had not bought the return ticket as yet. They just had the liquor store and the park at this point. But the adventure was just beginning.
And now that they were not in my ear, siphoning my thoughts from the paragraphs I kept repeating, I wondered how the rest of their night would go.
