“When we return wild animals to nature, we merely return them to what is already theirs, For man cannot give wild animals freedom, they can only take it away.” Jacques Cousteau

I talk to a lot of anti-caps on tumblr in the cetacean community. Almost all of them are great people, and even though we don’t see eye to eye, I can learn from them, expand my knowledge and I hope I am spreading the knowledge that I have with you as well. Now that I’ve said...

Unbelievable!
The hell is this new @cetaceanconfessions blog?
This it literally what fucking high schoolers do. The last time I saw something like this, it was a page for my high school and it had to be shut down because it caused so many issues.
Seriously wtf???

Is this for real????
sorry I am kinda new but I learnway more from yoursuchatwats blog than any blog on here. I never learned much from freedomforwhales or fightingforwhales so it's wrong that teamorkid says they have better blogs when they don't. those people posts too many boring personal thingies she should try to post news about cetaceans in captivity or some more of her own posts that she gets research for to help people learn. we need to educate and learn and discuss captivity we dont need blog awards

3. SeaWorld (SEAS) The marine life theme park operator came under fire after last year's "Blackfish" documentary called out SeaWorld's problems with having killer whales in captivity. SeaWorld countered by arguing that "Blackfish" was more propaganda than documentary, pointing out fallacies that were presented as facts in the film. The public isn't buying it. SeaWorld's attendance declined 4 percent last year when the rest of the theme park industry posted gains in turnstile clicks. Attendance fell even harder during the first three months of this year, but the timing of the Easter holiday and iffy weather helped keep patrons away.

Here’s one thing I’ll never understand: most pro-caps say they don’t support Mundo Marino and the dismal conditions Kshamenk lives in, and yet they say they support SeaWorld.
SeaWorld definitely supports Mundo Marino and Kshamenk’s living conditions. I mean, they went down there and collected his sperm without blinking an eye.
Like???????? Pro-caps know this too and it’s like they disregard it.

Note
Do you know what the purpose of an Orcas eye patch is?
I’ve always heard it acts as a false eyespot and feisty prey will try scratching or biting the patch rather than the orca’s actual eye.

Really SeaWorld!? I can't believe they had the audacity to put this out there. Actually it was a Monterey Bay whale tour that spotted the humpback first and then alerted the NOAA weeks ago. Not PETA. Not SeaWorld!

For some reason it won't let me reblog anything! It just doesn't show up. So I will just repost the photo and put my rebuttal. cetacean-captivity --- A point often leading to heated discussions when it comes to the pros and cons of orcas in captivity is whether the animals have a chance to live as long as in their natural environment. Researchers have determined an average life exptectancy for wild killer whales of about 30 years for males and 50 years for females. Some individuals even double these averages. Despite those facts, which are commonly accepted within the scientific community, marine park officials still declare publicly that orcas don’t live much longer than 20 years. Of the 159 captive killer whales that have died, almost 2/3 didn’t make it beyond 10 years in captivity. Just 30 orcas survived more than 20 years in captivity. Average time in captivity has improved steadily over the decades, but is still very low. Do orcas in captivity have a chance to reach the same age as their free counterparts? Here are the numbers as of May 1, 2014: average time in captivity for all whales in captivity (deceased and alive, n = 212): 8 years, 6 months average time in captivity for all whales deceased in captivity (n = 159): 6 years, 5 months average time in captivity for all whales currently alive in captivity (n = 53): 14 years, 6 months average time in captivity for all whales captured or born between 1964 and 1973 (n = 54): 6 years, 10 months average time in captivity for all whales captured or born between 1974 and 1983 (n = 58): 10 years, 1 month average time in captivity for all whales captured or born between 1984 and 1993 (n = 40): 13 years average time in captivity for all whales captured or born between 1994 and 2003 (n = 29): 8 years, 8 months average time in captivity for all whales captured or born since 2004 (n = 31): 3 years average time in captivity for all whales deceased between 1964 and 1973 (n = 28): 1 year, 2 months average time in captivity for all whales deceased between 1974 and 1983 (n = 47): 3 years, 9 months average time in captivity for all whales deceased between 1984 and 1993 (n = 29): 7 years. 1 month average time in captivity for all whales deceased between 1994 and 2003 (n = 29): 10 years. 1 month average time in captivity for all whales deceased since 2004 (n = 26): 12 years, 10 months average time in captivity for all captive born whales (n = 67): 8 years, 2 months average time in captivity for all whales caught in the wild (n = 145): 8 years, 9 months CONCLUSIONS: Within in the initial years of killer whales in captivity there was substantial improvement in keeping the animals alive, but in average orcas in captivity are still far away from reaching their natural life expectancies. This is quite astonishing if you consider the amount of medical treatment and observation put into those animals. It is difficult to prove but the quality of life might be the deciding factor in this puzzle.

Hey, are you okay? :c You seem a little on edge today and I know what we talked about yesterday and stuff... So here's a hug if you need it :D I know I've told you before but there's really a lot of really great anti-caps out there who would love to talk to you about things, you just gotta give them a chance and be a little more open!
Sorry anticap, but your sympathies aren’t wanted here. I tried to play your hippy game and be friends with everyone, but I can’t ignore the ignorance, or the fact that you use the facade of kindness to push your anticaptivity agenda. I see what you’re about. Nice try though.

Bridgette Pirtle. What an interesting roller coaster she has been on the passed year. First, anti captivity, bragging about Blackfish and her claim to fame along with it. Now, pro captivity asking for her job back at SeaWorld claiming Blackfish is propaganda.
What I find most interesting is she had seen Blackfish at the premiere, way before any of us saw it. Way before it was made famous. She knew what was in it, she knew the message it sent and she knew what information it gave off. After the public outcry against SeaWorld and the trainers in the movie became a little famous and she did not, she became a little crazed. She needed a way to get her name in the spotlight again. She chose to be one of the first trainers to go against Blackfish that snowballed into other trainers doing the same.(and sounding absolutely ridiculous, I might add)
What is her stance on captivity? She believes that her relationship with the orcas is most important piece to this pro-anti captivity puzzle. Yes the trainers and orcas have a supposed intense relationship. Whether this is true or not, what importance does it serve? It doesn’t, she just needed something to get her back into the spotlight.
It’s obvious everything she says is biased and set to her agenda. She is pro captivity when it suits her and anti captivity with it suits her. That is why nothing she says can be trusted or taken seriously.

From josiephone on tumblr: Apparently some vegans are telling people not to eat honey to support bees.

STOP. STOP NOW.
DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW BEES WORK?

Buy honey (local if possible) -> support beekeepers -> support bees.

I swear people don’t even think this stuff out.
Beekeepers provide bees with an environment in which they can live, and are encouraged to thrive. Bees then have a big huge giant person who can deal with any threats to the hive.
Yes, honey is a winter food supply for bees, but beekeepers (unless they’re dicks, in which case they’d be shooting themselves in the foot) will NEVER take too much honey from a hive, and will always ensure that bees have enough food. Think about it, you’re not going to starve a source of income/hobby, are you?

So now.
Support beekeepers.
Support bees.

buzz.
