May I be with you, you gods; May you be with me, you gods; May you live with me, you gods.
I love you, you gods; May you love me, you gods.

Tages, the prophet of the Italic people
The myth tells of a divine child prophet who emerged from the earth when an Etruscan farmer was plowing his field. As the farmer turned the soil, he uncovered a child-like figure, and despite his youthful appearance, Tages possessed great wisdom and divine knowledge, as he taught them the sacred practices of augury and haruspicy, the art of interpreting omens through the examination of animal entrails.
Tages not only shared these divinatory techniques but also imparted the knowledge of sacred rituals, guiding the Etruscans in understanding the will of the gods through signs in nature and ritual sacrifice. The Etruscans later shared this knowledge with the neighboring Italic populations creating the basis of the religious beliefs of the Peninsula.

♡⸝⸝ Hey Everyone, I come here as a last resort for myself but I am in a bit of a financial crisis due to my government.
I no longer have any income and have no means of getting food this week, So I'm here to promote my services on Ko-fi. I currently only offer prayer writing ($5 USD) but soon I will be offering a Theoi connection service ; (one that guides you towards the Theoi that align with your interests and life!) I only intend to make this one post about this because I'm frankly embarrassed haha.
Id greatly appreciate any amount of support but please do not feel any obligation! ♡⸝⸝ My Kofi.

Putting aside the reconstructionist arrogance (quelle surprise) these are actually p nice
For those who do not know me. My name is Vivienne. I’m a trans woman and lesbian. Hellenisticismos is my way of life (I am not someone practicing a “religion”. Much of the way I exist or believe predates the word religion). I am a VERY FIRM “reconstructionist”. (Although I prefer the term “person who understands the belief system at all”). I grow my own grapes (Khaire Dionysos), many of my own crops for that matter, I sculpt (I make my own idols of the Theoí and dig my own clay from the body of our beloved mother Gê). I am finishing my 3rd year of my undergraduate botany degree. I am deeply interested in the natural world as a whole and am grateful to be wholly devoted to it. Just a little about me!
(Below you’ll find my eidola. Just a forewarning some I am less pleased with than others. Many will be receiving a new idol soon. Also a work in progress is shown! Kore/Persephone)

One of my favorite historical tidbits is that Arab traders, for centuries, fooled Europeans into thinking cinnamon came from a rare, vicious and fearsome cinnamon bird.
The belief was so prevalent, in fact, that the mythical cinnamon bird shows up in the writings of Herodotus and Aristotle, all the way into medieval European manuscripts where it’s illustrated in all its fierce, cinnamony glory:

Pliny the Elder expressed skepticism of the bird in his writings, rightly assuming that it was a tale invented to keep control on the trade and prices by reducing competition, but the belief was already so widespread that it persisted in many areas into the early 1300’s.

Blessed is Dionysos, who dies and is reborn again with the making of the new wine.
Blessed is he who, when he was but an infant, was torn apart and destroyed-- but was renewed with life and transformed.
Blessed is he, who is called Bakkhos, Eleutherios, Liber, the Savior of all Men and Bringer of Madness. It is he who will deliver us from our weeping.
Send your madness, O great God, to the ends of the Earth!

save me Antinous-Dionysos 😭
Tumblr media
Antinous-Dionysos... save me Antinous-Dionysos... To me, he represents a specific aspect of Dionysos-- a protector and patron of queer couples, especially MLM couples. This specific bust was a focal point for the underground gay community in Soviet Russia, when homosexuality was outlawed. Couples would take oaths of allegiance and perform weddings in front of the statue.
