Thinking about how in the Naked Time, both Kirk and Spock admit to being lonely. Kirk knows that as captain he can't date or marry anyone on the Enterprise and Spock as a Vulcan doesn't feel like he can form friendships at all, "when I feel friendship for you I am ashamed." and Kirk saying, "I've always known I'll die alone" in the Final Frontier. And Spock dying on the other side of an impenetrable barrier to Kirk, reaching out but not touching. And Kirk going through hell to bring him back to life, always saying he's married to the Enterprise and he doesn't need a woman but blowing the whole ship up for Spock, the first person Spock recognises being Kirk. And what if I just killed myself.

I love Star Trek, I love how every time a federation ship goes into the romulan neutral zone there is also immediately a romulan ship. Like girl, what were YOU doing in the neutral zone?

So much of Garak as a person starts to make sense once you know his childhood was a fucking gothic novel. His main playground was a graveyard and he'd play pretend by perfoming improv eulogies to an imagined audience. For a long time his main touchstone for most important figures from recent history is 'oh yeah I know about that guy my dad buried him. great flower arrangements for that one'. He finds out later his 'parents' are actually a brother and sister who had to get married to avoid the utter shame and social devastation of having a child born out of wedlock, and they live in the basement of his biological father's house. (the madwoman in the attic vs. the tiny elim in the basement.) His biological father calls himself his uncle and locks him in a closet whenever he fails to live up to his insane and unpredictable expectations and everyone just has to act like that's normal and expected, and his will hangs over everything at all times, unseen but always felt keener than anything else. The father who actually raised him grows the world's most beautiful (and as it turns out, most poisonous) orchids and keeps the mask of a god hidden in a box in his work shed. Everyone in the house is choking down secrets like it's the only air they know how to breathe anymore.

What I'm saying is that right from the get-go this guy never had the faintest shot at turning out normal, so I'm glad that by middle age he's found a way to get a bit silly with it as he continues to be deeply deeply not normal about anything ever <3

Remember when Dukat was like Damar I need you to go convince my daughter I'm a good dad and tastefully get her to like me again and Damar was like uhhh I feel like I would be of most use doing something else anything else for you perhaps helping you with military strategies and Dukat goes I wasn't fucking asking you Damar that was an order now go talk to her so Damar goes and tries to strong arm Ziyal back into complacency but unfortunately for him Kira is there and she beats his ass unconscious and when he wakes up he goes back to Dukat to cry and ask for permission to arrest her and Dukat's like MY DAUGHTER DAMAR. What did you say to her DOES SHE LIKE ME AGAIN. and Weyoun is in the corner eavesdropping on them like 👁️👄👁️
