Welcome -

Coming almost 10 years after the release of the original compilations - 

I am excited to share with you the 4th installment of the 'CRACK' Juke/Footwork series: 'CRACK IV' A selection of 60 lost tracks circa 2007 - 2010, once again keying in on the myspace era of this genre.

As stated on the original post back in 2013: - The point of these compilations was “to receive a non-jaded representation of what juke / footwork sounds like (or, better yet, sounded like during this time) (not the trap / UK-influenced sound).” 

This is still my intent. 

The other main goal here is to make these tracks accessible to the original DJs/Producers that lost their work - (this has been one of the most important parts of me puting this together). -

CRACK I - III (The Lost Juke-Footwork Compilations) [Remastered, Re-issue (2019)]

Hello,

A little over 5 years later, I (SELA.) am here again to bring you a revised / updated version of the 3 CRACK compilations that were released on tumblr during the fall of 2013 / 14’. These files are remastered, and some additional information / tags have been added.

What is the reason for this release?

Well, in short: for archival purposes. All music from MySpace as of last year is now “no longer available and cannot be retrieved.” (There is an issue with all songs/videos uploaded over 3 years ago.)

The point of these compilations (as originally stated) was “to receive a non-jaded representation of what juke / footwork sounds like (or, better yet, sounded like during this time) (not the trap / UK-influenced sound).” This is still my intent. I still think this specific period of this kind of music is just… something else. Entirely. High level ghetto electronic insanity completely out of the left-field with the arrangements, the sample flips / interpretations, the play on BPM, the BASS… All still basically unmatched by any other music and it’s been about 10 years now. I still truly feel that this music (not just these compilations specifically) and the artists that created it are something that needs to be appreciated. There is a very special / instinctive / unique energy that forms on the dance floor when this music is DJ’d properly.

But, this is just my opinion.

Also, an additional note (to address these things once and for all): The few inaccuracies with the original 2013 compilation (mistitled tracks, etc.) were simply due to me using the information that was available at the time (the titles / information that were on the tracks when I found them). I was 19 when I put these together and it was released exclusively as a post on tumblr with a zippyshare link. Attempts were made to reach out to an amount of the artists included in these compilations during that time but many profiles and emails were inactive / non-existent (I also didn’t know that a good amount of people were connected solely in exclusive Facebook groups until later on). These compilations have never, at any point been used for any kind of monetary gain (or otherwise). These accusations started because a Bandcamp page was created for the third compilation (CRACK III) so people could stream the album before downloading as people had complained about the file size and not being able to preview songs with the previous two. This page was always streaming only, and had purchasing / downloading completely disabled from the very beginning and you can literally see that here.

There was going to possibly be a CRACK IV, and I do have an amount of songs for it, but I was never able to do the final part of my searching about 2 years ago because of the problem with the content on Myspace not loading. Maybe one day…

this is all besides the fact that b just stood up after basically a wwe lumberjack match (which is important and symbolic in and of itself).

but what get me most is that you sound cloud niggas were supposed to bring balance to the force!!!!! y’all was supposed to end the music industry machine and make an art form accessible to Everyone. rap is pretty much wrestling at this point when it could be a legit liberating art form but!! y’all got lost in the sauce again.

unprecedented follow up to the last installment in the STRESS series ( “c side”, dec. 2013) comprised mostly of tracks that were created around 8-12 months ago.

this release also marks the end of my 2014-15 styles of making music

the thought alone of everything associated with this time (and the ‘past’ in general) does, ironically, generate a lot of stress/anxiety. i started all these tracks and a handful of others last fall for a proposed vinyl LP release, but the label in question arbitrarily deaded the plans/cut off contact with me (this is why i’ve been quiet most of this year). thus, the songs were left 70% finished. and while i personally don’t think this ep is my best for fragmentation reasons, i definitely didn’t think the songs weren’t worth finishing. now we’re here.

i’m incredibly happy to finally have this done as i can’t begin to tell you how irritating it is to try and go back and complete ideas you started up to 12 months prior

still though: ‘sell your life’ will be way better !

Put this together because like most other people, I stopped paying attention to this dude after all the various drama that took place with him and [insert hella artists] in 2012-14. Upon finding out that he was 'back' in 2016, I started looking into his new shit only to find endless hating ass comments from those who once called themselves 'fans', and a huge drop in plays/reception (some tracks literally having like 400 plays compared to the initial tens/thousands his songs used to get).

This pissed me off.

Think what you want, but I was there in 2010-11. 90% of rappers out right now are some kind of bastardization of either SGP, Lil B, or Gucci Mane, or some kind of combination of all three. That is why this was put together. (So that there is a resource that makes all his art available in one place) Despite his perceived antics, SpaceGhostPurrp should be respected as the genius that he is. If you don't agree, u probably biting #NewMiami
