Though he is not often afforded the opportunity, Kylo much prefers to be out in nature than on a ship or within the confines of a city. While he doesn’t project an air of serenity, he is able to find some semblance of peace when allowed to take the time and lose himself in the natural order of the world. His connection to the Force also feels deeper the further away he is from others, giving him a rare chance to truly center himself and meditate. 

ᴅᴇsᴄʀɪʙᴇ ʜɪs ʀᴇʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴsʜɪᴘ ᴡɪᴛʜ ʜɪᴍsᴇʟғ

He doesn’t necessarily hate himself, but he doesn’t believe he is living up to his true potential. He’s frustrated and upset, constantly on edge and only a hair away from snapping at any moment. Kylo thought that getting rid of Snoke would free him from the shackles of doubt he found himself restrained by, but it seems to have only made matters worse. No longer does he have to live up to Snoke’s expectations, but his own are even more difficult to achieve – starting a vicious cycle where he feels the need to prove himself, to himself, but he can’t measure up to his own standards. His self-loathing goes deeper than he’s willing to admit. 

ᴡʜᴀᴛ ᴛʀᴀɪᴛs ᴀᴛᴛʀᴀᴄᴛ ʜɪᴍ ᴛᴏ ᴘᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ ᴀs ғʀɪᴇɴᴅs/ᴀʟʟɪᴇs?

Strength. Power. Ambition. Loyalty. These are the traits he looked for when forming the Knights of Ren and they are now what he looks for as Supreme Leader. Unfortunately for him, as Supreme, he has less say over the people directly underneath him – leaving him constantly paranoid that there is someone waiting to take him out just as he took out Snoke. He admires and appreciates these traits, but also understands that there is the potential for them to come back to haunt him.

an angered response followed by defiance, how unexpected.  she’ll roll her eyes, merely crossing her arms and watching as he makes a fool of himself by denying the rest he so OBVIOUSLY needs.  it’s hard to hide the grin, too righteous for her own good, that follows his jab in her direction.  when it appears he’s done whining, her arms fall, and she’s ready to help – if he even allows her to do so.  “i’m no doctor, but i do have eyes and i can see that you’re in no position to be walking around,” she repeats, one finger rising as she adds, “just like the doctor ordered.  i have ears as well.”  while she speaks, she nears him carefully, her arms stretching out as an offer to him.  she’s one of very few people unafraid of him, so all the outbursts and insults he can toss her way won’t have an affect, she’ll stay just where she is until he’s gotten over himself.

His annoyance simmers beneath the surface as she remains before him. He should have known better than to think he could intimidate her away -- Nova was simply too stubborn for her own good. A small part of him couldn’t help but wonder if her sense of self-preservation was always this bad, or if she assumed he was nothing more than hot air. There is a moment where his anger briefly bristles at the thought of not being taken seriously, but he relents, reaching out and allowing himself to lean on her small frame to take the weight off his injured side.

 “Despite you saying you have ears, it seems you don’t use them.” Though his tone his sarcastic, there is no true malice behind the words as he takes a tentative step forward. “Surely you have better things to do than mother me.”
