so in case you’re about to watch a cw television show based in the southwest that’s featuring an episode based on some supposed reservation – or you’ve read anything about the situation on the navajo nation recently – i wanted to share some ways that we all can help the diné (navajo) community beyond kind-of depicting them on television. 

today the navajo nation surpassed new york state and new jersey for the highest per-capita coronavirus infection rate in the country. that’s 2,304 cases per 100,000 people. 173,600 people live on the navajo nation, roughly. below are a number of organizations & community groups raising money & resources. it would mean so much to me if you’d consider supporting these communities right now - & continue to think about how you can support the indigenous communities near you, & understand the indigenous land you might currently occupy. 

the navajo water project helps bring running water to navajo families without, and also helps families pay their water & electricity bills 

the adopt an elder project helps feed navajo elders during the pandemic

the navajo health command operations center is the navajo nation’s only official fundraising and donation effort

rez rising is a database of native american small businesses across the southwest

the kinlani mutual aid group is a flagstaff, az based volunteer group collecting supplies

the native american relief fund operated by the native american community foundation provides emergency grants to communities for supplies & more

and a number of community-run fundraising efforts:

navajo & hopi families relief fund

native student emergency fund

bluff area mutual aid - supply delivery in utah

navajo nation relief project

Attention, ADHDers who have a hard time brushing their teeth

Download Pokemon Smile. You don't need to know jack shit about (or even especially like) Pokemon to use it, and it is free. You only need a functional front-facing camera and the ability to read (or someone with you who can).

You pick a starter Pokemon and then, as you brush your teeth, the Pokemon battles purple plaque clouds in a little mouth setting for you. It uses your front-facing camera and some AR to see how you're brushing and tells you where to brush and for how long. It shows you yourself as you brush and puts a chosen hat on your head.

A wild Pokemon obscured by the clouds appears partway through and your Pokemon cleans it off as you brush.

At the end, it lets you throw a Pokéball in an effort to catch it, which you have an increasingly better chance at successfully doing the better and better you brush!

You also win little hats that get put on your head while you brush!

You can adjust settings for the amount of time it has you brushing, what hat you're wearing, and things like that. It is friendly to people of all ages and addresses that children should be surpervised. Best of all, when it asks for your gender at the very start, it has a "something else" option! I noticed you're bi-demi. Are you currently in a relationship with someone? If so, how do you communicate with your partner about your orientation? I'm also Bi demi. I recently met a guy and I dont know how to tell him I'm not ready to get physical yet without making it seem that I'm not into him. He's been great so far.

Yes I've been in a relationship. Only one so I'm hardly an expert. But I made it very clear to him before we ever started dating that I was bi demi. I made it clear what that meant to me and what it would mean for the relationship. Ultimately he told me it was an honor that his demi girlfriend could view him in a physical sense.

There were other issues with us but one thing he was great about was me being demi. So please know that if you tell this person you're demi and discuss it with them and they have any problems with it they are NOT worth your time. Just be open and honest about your sexuality but make it clear that if thats a problem for them you can't be with them.

Its a difficult conversation to have but I'd make it clear to them whatever you're comfortable with. Like for example I made it clear to my ex that I was ok with things like cuddling, but it took me a while to even kiss him. And I made it clear it would be a long ass time before we ever had sex, to be perfectly frank. Something I also had to make clear to him was that me being on the ace spectrum didn't mean I wasn't attracted to him, it just meant attraction was different for me.

Its difficult but if I were you, I would tell him frankly that I'm not ready to be physical. I would also make it clear that I'm not sure exactly when that will change and it could be a LONG time before I am.

Now, your boundaries may be the same, or they may be different. Just be sure to communicate all of said boundaries. And try to prepare yourself for whatever their answer may be. It could go well, and it could not. Just be prepared. But again, if he reacts badly, they don't deserve you.
