week 47. We finally got underway on the testing of our raw wood, creating concepts and material test that might help us find value in the greenwood. We also finished up the raw extruder and made some interesting material tests that we hope can show our process.

Week 46
We have presented our pre diploma programs.  Rest of the week we have been working on our raw clay extruder creating a refined version of the prototype using the raw clay found from Bjørvika.  We were successful with extruding a profile using the natural clay! This week we have also gotten our hands on the green wood and have started the process of creating the green wood objects.

Weak 44.  This week we have consulted for a second time with Knut Natvik, workshop master of ceramics at the Oslo national academy of the arts. We wanted to learn more about clay and its properties in their natural state. Knut is very interested in our approach and giftet us a bucket with clay from Bjørvika.  We have used this week to develop the greenwood concept further and have landed on an interesting idea for how to use green woods properties and characteristics.

Week 41
This week we have worked on how to continue this project. With our new goal of creating a roadmap of the Radical Ideation process and to illustrate that process by using it to create a radical solution project  we have been looking into how we could possibly do that. We have had 2 workshops on how to analyze our own and others known design methods and processes. Trough this we have found a graphical illustration of our method and will use this method to continue our work.

week 40
Last week we had our midterm where we discussed the way forward with our project and its impact. (Mikkel was away so Tim held the presentation).  We presented our work and our thoughts and had a discussion with Haakan about how we could improve. He was interested in the idea of creating a roadmap for other people to be able to use our process of ideation and for us to analyze it and make it accessible. So we will move forward with the that idea.

Week 39 after last week re-evaluation of our project we have worked all of this week to see how we can create a lasting impact using our project. Our answer has been to look into our own methods of creating radical ideas and trying to analyze how our best ideas come into fruition and create a method of that type of ideation. By that we mean that we want to understand the radical ideation process and our own process and create a guide for how to achieve those good radical ideas. We will use our project to illustrate this guide. ( this is still in the early stages, so its a little hard to formulate) We also have our midterm this week, so we have been working on our presentation. showing all our previous work, but also where we feel we have fell short and try to spark a discussion on how give our project more impact.  We will write about our learnings from the midterm next week.

Week 38.
We have met a wall with what radical improvements we can create by using our known design methods so far our ideas have all been ways for the existing system to improve in an incremental way. We will take a step back and re-evaluate what we want to do with this project. We set out to create a project that can have a longer lifespan than just a traditional design project with focus on its own environmental impact and our ideas so far has not done that. We will go back to the literature on radical and innovative design and try to understand where to go from here. We will still work within the same context, concept and the same problems, but hopefully our approach will be different. we will meet with Haakan in Week 39 for our midterm, we will consult with him about how we can create more lasting impact.

Week 37. This week has been all about getting ourself familiar with our new insights into transportation and the LCA. We have connected our giga maps creating a holistic visualization of our approach. We have been refining our two concepts further as well ( greenwood concept & Wasteless concept )  We had a meeting with supervisor Haakan and went trough our findings so far. We agreed on going further with the greenwood concept where we in 2 weeks will have a clear concept plan and idea for our work going forward.

Week 36 we analyse our findings from the product life cycle map and try to find a way going forward. We also continued work on our early concepts. We decided that we were going to narrow our search, from LCA ( life cycle analysis ) down to what we found as one of the biggest pollution sources, transportation. zooming in on a smaller area would provide us with better insights into possible areas of exploration.

Week 35.  This week we looked further into our understanding of the process of manufacturing an object. With specific focus on the flow. We have started our giga map, looking at the differences between our expectations and the reality of how the process really is.
Last week we had our meeting with Håkan, where we got inspired to follow some of our early concepts and ideas so we have spent some time formulating an idea.  The idea is based on creating a product that restricts the production method and how a possible manufacturer could make the product.   For example, we can create a wooden chair that uses what is called greenwood. Greenwood is un-cured wood that has 100% moisture still inside it. This gives the wood different properties. Using these properties we could potentially create products that manufacturers can not replicate without using local wood, since the wood needs to be fresh ( used within a day or two ) to be able to use its characteristics ( bend, resilience etc ). We want to find other materials that puts restrictions on how the producers make that object like the greenwood would do.

Week 34
First week of the 2019 fall semester at the AHO selfprogramming.
We have started working on our project, creating a giga map of naivety, where we have maped what we believe to be the prossess and life cycle of a product (see picture bellow). We had our first meeting with supervisor Håkan Edeholt (supervisor) where we discussed our method of aproach. We have decided to aproach our semester in a way where we research and develop consepts simutaniously. Since the subject of our project needs radical ideas and consepts to improve upon the current state, we need to come in with fresh eyes, we want to keep our “naivety” and fresh perspective so that we can try to create new methods to face the problem. That means in practise that we will focus on our research, getting familiar with the problem, while working on our instinctual ideas and make rapid test of our solutions.
