Back during lockdown when I couldn't get much focused work done, I played instead with plotting out new ideas for stories. Some of those were fairytale retellings. I came up with ideas for my version of a Cinderella, Snow White, and Red Riding Hood. Later in the year, an amazing opportunity for joining other authors in a boxed set of fairy tale retellings came up, and I applied on a whim, thinking I didn't have a chance in the competitive selection. And I got in. 😮 I was required to write a clean, urban fantasy retelling of Rumpelstiltskin within a short deadline, and I did, and I'm really happy with how the novel turned out. But... The three other fairy tale stories I plotted out are all based in more traditional, medieval style fantasy settings. And as I wrote this urban fantasy Rumpelstiltskin story, I kept thinking it would work great in that setting too, and if it was, I could write the other three as well and have them as a matching series in the same world! I've just planned out my 2021 publishing schedule, and my main priority is to get the rest of the Beshadowed series out (since writing A Cage of Gold and Lies has already pushed that back). I probably won't have time next year to re-write this story ... if I do ... which I'm still not sure of ... Either way, I probably won't have time to release it as a stand-alone book next year. The boxed set will only be available for a limited time (pre-order now for Feb. 2021 delivery, then limited sale after that). That means, if you want to read this novel, in this version, before possibly 2022, then you need to grab it as part of the Magically Ever After boxed set.
