“Oh dear,” Selina all but purred as gunshots began to sound, and the room was plunged into darkness. “Looks like the bad guys have come out to play,” she smirked, slinking under a nearby table to watch the chaos unfold. She had no idea who was behind this attack, so maybe she’d be able to spot something that would give away the big boss behind the serving minions.
She was quite content to just sit there until the chaos was over. Those that she cared about at the ball were more than capable of taking care of themselves. But then she was spotted. Darting out from her hiding spot, Selina began to pounce from table to table, and wall to wall to get away. Finally, she stood on the ground, unwinding her whip from around her arm, then cracking it with a satisfied grin.
Tumblr media
“Play with the cat, get scratched,” she hissed as she knocked a knife out of masked guy’s hand with the whip. Noticing a gunman creeping up behind an unknowing person, Selina sighed out of annoyance. She just wanted to flee. But somehow her conscience wasn’t letting her. “Ah ah, not so fast,” she smirked as she ran behind them, her clawed glove plunging into the top of their gun-wielding arm. “Thank me later,” she said to the would’ve been victim as the weapon dropped.

@harlsquinns
“Harley, it’s been too long!” Selina said with a bright grin as she wrapped her arms around her friend in a hug. She wasn’t normally one for physical displays of affection, but Harley was special to her, along with Pam. “How’ve you been?” she asked, taking a seat at the table and gesturing for Harley to sit down too. “I’ve heard nothing from the others about you, so it sounds like you’re actually retiring from being a villain,” she teased as she leaned back in her chair. “Who would’ve thought it?”

Selina Kyle aka Catwoman
“That’s part of the rule. Never quit. Never let them see you’re afraid. Above all – never let them see you’re hurt. Never let them see you cry. Never.“

Selina looked up from her nails, then fixed Ivy with an annoyed stare. “Painting and shaping my nails is part of who I am, Ivy. A cat can’t have blunt claws,” she grumbled, then dipped her brush back into the black nail polish. “You’re not exactly the epitome of fun right now, either. You’re reading a newspaper.”
Tumblr media
“I do hope that isn’t your idea of entertainment,” Pamela remarked dryly, not looking up from her newspaper. “And I didn’t think my opinion of the human race could sink any lower.”

isabellakristen:
It was a little surprising when Catwoman sat beside her, but Isabella didn’t let that show on her face. She just shrugged. “No,” she said, simply. In truth, she could have sat anywhere that other people would have considered uncomfortable, for hours, without moving. She rarely sat on the steps of places, or on the sidewalk, but sometimes, when she wanted to sit by herself, she chose unorthodox places.
Tumblr media
She watched the other woman pull out a nail file, and had to stop herself from smiling. She’d forgotten, during their time apart, how theatrical Catwoman could be. It was a little surprising to hear that the thief hadn’t been active, and Isabella let herself smile, wanly, in a hollow expression of sympathy. “I’m sorry to hear that things have been slow,” she said. “But congratulations on your heist. I wouldn’t have expected anything less.”
Being addressed as Query was a little odd, especially given what Isabella wanted to tell the other woman. She wasn’t sure why she wanted to tell her. They weren’t friends, or hardly acquaintances. Perhaps it was because they were so similar, and she wanted to know what Catwoman would make of her decision.
After a moment, she said, “Things have changed a lot for me, since we last met. I’m no longer going by Query. I’ve decided to retire.” She turned to Catwoman fully. “Of course, you understand why I won’t give you my real name. When we run into one another, you can still address me by my alias. But I won’t be active in the criminal underworld anymore. Circumstances have made me… re-evaluate my morals.”
Selina couldn’t stop the slightly smug smile that formed on her lips when Query congratulated her. It soon faltered, though, when the woman began to tell that she’d decided to retire. She had to admit that she never saw it coming, and was frankly a little disappointed that she wouldn’t get to work with the blonde more. It was rare that Selina ever took a liking to anyone outside of the Rogues enough to let them join her on her heists, but she’d enjoyed having Query around, even if they hadn’t worked together much.
Pursing her lips, she nodded at the woman. She could definitely understand the reasons behind her not wanting to give out her real name. Selina stopped filing her nails, putting the nail file back in her pocket in order to give Query her full attention, which was quite the rarity. “Well, I can’t say that I’m not disappointed to hear that,” she said honestly. “You were certainly skilled when it came to stealing. You were possibly one of the best thieves I’ve come across. It’s a shame that you feel it’s time to retire so early, but I won’t argue with your decision.”
In a way, Selina admired Query for being able to cut herself off from the criminal side of her life so easily. If it were her, she’d never be able to do it. The temptation to steal would always be there, and she’d never be able to curb it enough to retire completely. Her goal was always to take from the rich and give to the unfortunate, and maybe her lines had gotten a little blurred over the years, but that’d never change.
“Can I ask why you’ve decided to re-evaluate your morals?” Selina asked. “Did you do something particularly bad?” She didn’t really expect the woman to tell her the truth, or tell her anything at all, but she thought they were questions worth asking. “I know you don’t want to give me your real name, and that’s fine. But my name is Selina, just in case we cross paths in the future.”
Tumblr media
Leaning back a little, she reached into her pants pocket, pulling out a diamond bracelet taken from the heist she’d been talking about. Standing up, she tossed it at Query with a smile. “Keep it. Let it serve as a reminder of what you’re missing,” she said with a half teasing tone. “Why don’t you get up from that cold sidewalk, and we’ll go and get something to drink.”

@riddle-me-that:
“Of course I wasn’t!” Ed nearly snapped at the woman, clicking the light on. “I don’t see you for weeks and then I come into my apartment and you’re just sitting there in the dark! A call would have been nice! Maybe a text?!” He was going a little over dramatic, swinging his arms in the air as if this were some sort of big deal. “If you’re only here because you want something from me, Selina, then you can forget it.”
Tumblr media
Ed’s overreaction was enough to make Selina laugh out loud, and she didn’t even try to stop it, despite knowing it was going to annoy him. Sure, she could’ve let him know she was going to be paying him a visit, but where would the fun be in that? “Take it down a notch, Eddie,” she said firmly, once her laughter had subsided. “Or should I say several notches. You’re such an overdramatic brat sometimes,” she said with a roll of her eyes. “Want something from you?” Selina asked with a slightly offended tone. “What could you possibly have that I couldn’t get for myself?” Getting up from her seat on his couch, she walked towards a rather expensive looking trinket, picking it up and admiring it with a smirk. “I can assure you that if I wanted anything you have, I’d just take it, and there would be nothing you could do about it, because I’d be gone before you’d notice.”

@bcdlcuk:
“ – So, you’re saying that we just keep every emotion buried? Take everything we want and need, run and live for the adrenaline, leaving a long list of broken hearts until what? We rule or collapse?” Felicia questioned with a glint in her eye, a look somewhere between apprehension and respect.  They were painfully similar, that was true, but they were wholly different in some respect. While Felicia played the game of never get attached, claw your way to the top and never give in – This woman seemed to live it.
The brunette feline cocked her head to the side, looking the other woman up and down with a satisfied shrug of her shoulders, and smile gracing her lips. The woman was so similar is was painful, however, if that were the case – Then every word from her mouth was a lie. Cats may have been solitary, but they craved affection like any other animal. Felicia swept her curtain of curls to one shoulder. “Felicia Hardy,” She extended her hair, unsure if she’d find an unlikely friend in the woman or a rival. Either way, the feline was content with just getting to know her.  “Since I have nothing planned for tonight, why don’t we go to a bar and talk about how not lonely we are.”
Tumblr media
"That’s exactly what I’m saying,” Selina replied with a shrug of her shoulder. Maybe it sounded like a ridiculous way to live her life to some, but to her it was the only way. She couldn’t get caught up in love, settling down, and leaving her life of crime behind. She’d been stealing since she could remember, and she wasn’t going to stop for anyone. “There’s no collapsing, only ruling. It’d be foolish to think otherwise. If you don’t believe you’re going to succeed, you’ll fail.” Maybe her words sounded harsh, but they were the truth. If you didn’t believe that you were going to achieve your goals, you’d fall into a hole of self pity and never be able to claw your way back out. “I hope you’ll remember all of this, because I’m not going to repeat it.”
When the woman gave Selina her name and extended her hand, she cautiously took it in her own and shook it firmly. “Selina Kyle.” Maybe giving her real name was foolish, but she had no reason to suspect that Felicia was up to no good, or that she was giving her a false name. When offered the invitation of going to a bar, she saw no reason to decline it. She definitely didn’t want to talk about loneliness, though. “Sure, why not. I have nothing better to do,” she sighed, getting up from her seat. “No talk of loneliness, though. It bores me,” she lied. It didn’t bore her at all, it simply toyed with her heart and left her feeling the need to crawl away for a while.

“When’s the last time you went outside?”
Selina looked up at Bruce, her eyes raking over his appearance. He was still as irritatingly handsome as ever, and she was sure he was also just as charming as he was the first time she met him. “Last week. Why? What’s it to you?” she asked, keeping her eyes fixed on him as she stood up. “Don’t tell me you’re worried about me, Bruce,” she said with a smirk, moving closer to him and using her index finger to lift his chin, so that he couldn’t look away. “When was the last time you went outside not dressed as a bat? Do you still like to dwell in the dark?” She began to circle him with a grin on her face, her eyes never leaving him as she searched for signs that he might be there to do something do-goody and annoying. If he had the batarangs, that definitely meant trouble. Perhaps he’d come to steal something back that she’d stolen. He was an expert at that. “What are you really doing here? Are you Batman or Bruce Wayne today?” she inquired. “Because both have an annoying habit of making this cat’s fur stand on end.”

It had been so long since she’d seen Catwoman that it took Isabella a moment for her to realise where she knew the other woman. Her posture immediately changed – she sat up a little straighter, and smiled up at the other woman, a little sheepishly, now she’d been called out for sitting on the sidewalk.
“No reason,” she said. “I was just thinking.” She looked the other woman up and down. “Goodness, it’s been so long. I can imagine you have a lot to catch me up on? I certainly have a lot to tell you.”
Selina hadn’t seen Query for quite a while, so seeing her sitting on the sidewalk was a little unusual. Every other time they’d met, the woman had presented herself much like Selina herself did: cool, calm, and professionally. With a shrug, she decided to join the blonde by taking a seat next to her.
“I can think of a dozen better places to think than a cold sidewalk,” Selina replied, trying to keep any hints of concern out of her tone. “Is there any particular reason you chose here?” she asked. Her shoulders slumped a little at Query’s question. Honestly, there wasn’t much to fill her in on at all. Catwoman had been remarkably quiet lately, and Selina blamed that on New York being so boring. Nobody wanted to anger to the government, and even the superheroes were laying low.
Tumblr media
“Well, this cat’s paws have been remarkably clean lately,” she said with a smirk, pulling a nail file out of her pocket. “I just haven’t been able to find the work,” she sighed as she began to file down her nails. “Although, I did pull off a rather grand heist a few weeks ago. I stole thousands of dollars worth of diamonds and got paid generously. I even pocketed a few for myself, of course,” she said with a sly grin. “When the men look away, the cat will play,” she practically purred. “So, Query, what do you have to tell me?”

"Are you lonely?"
Selina’s brow furrowed at the question she was being asked, and her eyes looked the woman in front of her up and down. Was she lonely? That was a question that she hadn’t heard in a very long time. Being Catwoman meant that she never stayed in one place too long, and that she never let herself get close to anyone, with the exception of Harley and Pam. But even they didn’t know every part of her. Selina had always kept herself to herself, barely even conversing with people if she didn’t feel like they were worth her time, or would help her gain something. Of course, she had soft spots for certain people, but she’d never let them know. That was probably why the answer to the question was yes.
Never one to let her guard down; especially not around someone she didn’t know, Selina turned her gaze away from the woman. “No. Of course I’m not.” She hoped she said her lie with conviction, because she did not want to be questioned about this topic. “When you’re in my line of business, you don’t get lonely. If you do, you move on. Loneliness means that you’ve been in one place too long. It means you’re taking your eye off the prize and giving yourself time to think. Lonely, along with love, is for children.”

Selina is eyeing someone with judgement, as per usual, when she feels the presence of someone behind her. With cat-like reflexes, she spins around to face the person, her hand on the handle of her whip. “Don’t you know it’s rude to sneak up on people!” she snaps, her eyes narrowing in annoyance. “I take it you’re a spider, judging from your emblem,” she comments, gesturing to the chest of his costume. “Well, I was looking at that woman’s horrendous shoes,” she says, shaking her head in disgust as she points her out to the boy hanging down from a thread. “Uggs are so 2010.”

PETER SHOT A WEB OFF THE SURFACE WITH A SILENT THWIP , using it to dangle upside down behind the other. “Hey! What are we looking at?” He asks as the white eyes of his mask get smaller so he can focus to get a better look. It doesn’t occur to him that maybe he shouldn’t have snuck up on the stranger like this, but it was too late to go back now.

[TEXT: Ed❓]: All caps? Really, Edward? You’re going to go all caps Eddie on me right now?
[TEXT: Ed❓]: Calm down, Nygma. You’ll give yourself a heart attack, and there will be nobody there to dial 911.
[TEXT: Ed❓]: Black is not boring. It’s slimming, sleek, and also sexy. You could add some emerald green question marks to the black jacket, maybe. I suppose I don’t know much about standing out, though. My job is to stay hidden.
[TEXT: Ed❓]: But how will I send them an email with tips on how to make their work better, if you won’t tell me? Don’t make me pout, Eddie.

[text: Selina]: First of all, [text: Selina]: HOW DARE YOU. I LOOK FABULOUS IN GREEN. THE COLOUR OF MY SUITS ARE FANTASTIC.  [text: Selina]: Secondly, black is incredibly boring Selina. How do you expect me to stand out in a black suit?  [text: Selina]: I don’t give out my tailor’s information to people who make fun of his work, thank you very much.
