Bologna Children’s Book Fair
I’ve heard about Bologna Children’s Book Fair since I was a kid, and can’t believe I actually visited it. Amazing original works of the nominated illustrators and the exhibitions from countries and publishers, many types and possibilities of children’s books, different shapes, materials and also design for children who are visually impaired.
On the plane to Bologna, I met a Japanese student studying in children’s literature, she was going to the book fair as well, I was surprised.

Drawing in Lisbon
Some of the sketches in the monastery. Someone said, “quiet please.” through the microphone inside the altar space, it’s interesting. While I was sketching on the first floor and looking at everyone on the ground floor crazily taking photos. I was thinking that in their mind, having a beautiful photo is more important than the place itself?

Drawing in Lisbon
Some of the drawings while in the botanical garden, Estufa Fria. Actually, I’m not a big fan of plants but I’m really interested in the huge structure of the botanical garden. And also the place has a creepy artificial atmosphere but very few people in there, it kind of freaks me out.

Drawing in Lisbon
Some of my quick sketches on the street of Lisbon. I always saw lots of beautiful photographs taken in Lisbon, and when I finally went there, it is the most beautiful place.

Reviews in Lisbon
Some other people’s work during the Lisbon trip. I was amazed by everyone’s drawings every afternoon, there were so many ways to record places or things, using different materials and aspects. Like the receive of custard tart or packaging paper. Very minimal lines or a very crowded scene.

Captions in portfolio
I saw this Instagram story from @muutodesign, and it is a starting point of my portfolio. The contrast between title and texts and also the minimal style in it really fascinated me.

Everyday Connections: Presentation
The final outcome is the one in the left. It’s the concept of baby angel go down into a hole and become a guy on the street.
The size of my photos is pretty small, actually it’s quite hard to see them after I stick them on the wall comparing to the others. The photos could be bigger and the last one remains the same size.
The photo in the middle is one of my favorite of someone’s work. It was in the life room and one of the photo was taken in the life room as well. It’s just so beautiful both the pictures and the composition.

Typology, Chronology & Continuity
Part 3, finding out the continuity and create kind of narrative. However, I didn’t bring the other 25 photos from last week, so the narrative I could do is quite limited, so I did this part again when I went back home with the 50 photos, It’s so much easier to create.

Typology, Chronology & Continuity
Part 2, putting photos into chronology order and chose random five photos from the chronology order. I was surprised by the outcome because it looked like a  journey that I went through.

Typology, Chronology & Continuity
Part 1, trying to put photos into different typology that share same colour or element. Red seems to be the most common colour used in daily life in my photos.

Introduction to Editing: Initial Connections
Some other people’s combinations. I like how minimal their photo is and the square shape that they used, and also the close up photos is nice to combine with photos have more depth.
I think making good photo combinations is not about how perfect each photo is, but is it have some kind of interesting ideas inside.

Introduction to Editing: Initial Connections
Combination of five photos. My five combinations are more using similar colour or connecting the line, however there’s not much narrative inside.

Introduction to Editing: Initial Connections
Three photos combination. The photos I have is probably too complicated, the image became too busy, I think the combination using more simple photos works better.

Introduction to Editing: Initial Connections
Combination of two photos. I like the two photos combination more rather than combination of three or five, for me it’s much stronger and fun to look at.
When we swapped photos it’s also really interesting to see what another person did to my photos, how different about the choices we made.
