Sandhill Crane
Cranes are among the oldest living birds on planet Earth, the earliest unequivocal Sandhill Crane fossil, estimated to be 2.5 million years old, was unearthed on macasphal Shell Pit in Florida. Migration wintering grounds in the south and breeding grounds in the north has likely taken Sandhill Cranes across what is now Nebraska for many thousand, if not for millions of years. The, link between Sandhill Crane and the Platte river is believed to date to the river's origins some 10 thousand to 12 thousands years ago, following the end of the last ice age.

The Bar-tailed godwit makes the longest non-stop journey of any bird species. A female was satellite tracked as it traveled 11.690 km in a single flight over nine days from Alaska to New Zealand. Extraordinarily the bird totalled 29.500km in a full migration cycle over 174 days. In its life time these migrations will take it approximately the distance from the earth to the moon.

Bar-headed is a migratory goose that breeds in Central Asia in colonies of thousands near mountain lakes and winters in South Asia, as far South Peninsula, India. Bar-headed is known for the extreme altitude it reaches when migrating across the Himalayas. The main physiological challenge of the geese is extraction oxygen from hypoxic air and transporting it to aerobic muscles in order to sustain flight in high altitudes. Bar-headeds have been tracked flying as high as 7.270 meters up.
