I once saw that "I love helmets!" video, and from that point on I always wore a helmet. It has saved me from a straw diet two times on rollerscates. And I agree, helmet's don't look that cool. But a feeding tube totally looks lamer.

To just get on my soapbox; I think people also forget how the good and bad weighs against each other. You're always more likely to remember negative things than good things. That ain't exactly a bad thing, it means you care. But there is such thing as caring too much. Sure. There is a lot that sucks. Some days it feels like the world is tearing itself apart. But you can't expect yourself to save the world, it's not your responsibility to find the solution to every catastrophe, every war, every disaster. Of course, it's easier to remember something that needs fixing. But you should bear the weight of yourself first - everyone else's is a choice you make after that. That's what defines you. And just because it's horrid on the other side of the world, doesn't mean it has to affect you here. Somewhere outside your window, a family of deer grazes in a field, unconcerned with the people 20 feet from them. They've become used to the company. A homeless shelter shields the unfortunate from the cold, as the food pantry/kitchen gives them a form of love they're sorely missing. You won't remember these things well, because there's no part of you thinking it needs a solution. I keep this line in my head - I shit you not, it's from a Tomb Raider game. Specifically, the third of the newer trilogy, which I have some "opinions" about. But, at the end of the story, Croft is presented with the option to remake the world in a perfect image, with the temporary powers of a God. To finally be with her family that she lost so soon... And she doesn't change anything. She says goodbye to her parents for one last time, and prepares to sacrifice herself to save a world she's seen the absolute worst of, solely because a friend's quote lingers in her mind: "I like this world. It's not perfect, but everything I love now is in it."
I genuinely think that the world will get better and isn’t worse than it was 20-30 years ago. We see more, we’re exposed to more terrible shit. But at the same time we care a whole lot more, and as good as that is it means that we end up caring a bit too much about others and not caring much about ourselves. Take care of yourself, know that humans are good and the world is good. Everything will be okay as long as we keep pushing for a better future

There's two major things that can give you that "cold" look even if you live in a concrete jungle with no dead plants to look at. 1 - Depending on how far north/south you are, the sun is at a lower angle in the sky. This means the solar light has to travel through more atmosphere to get to you, becoming more diffuse, and is coming at an angle you're not used to for the time of day. Like, why the hell is the sun at 30 degrees above horizon at 2 PM. This is bullshit. 2 - Atmospheric conditions during cold months are boring as hell, relatively. There's way less moisture and the air is much more dense, resulting in clouds losing definition, movement, vertical height, and potentially color. 2.5 - Like me, you hate winter so goddamn much that it seeps into your bones and makes you a ratchety crone.
hey all my peeps from northern climates you know how sometimes ya look outside and it just like has this Look and you just Know it’s cold out like there’s no obvious signs no ice no snow you just KNOW it’s cold because you’ve lived here long enough that u look at the sky and you’re like ‘it’s cold’ how fucked up is that

And, by extension, AccuWeather.
AccuWeather is essentially a private version of the United States National Weather Service. They will sell something to you/your company that you can quite literally call your local NWS office to get for free - and they lobby to gut their capability.
Fuck AccuWeather and anybody who works for them.
Your local meteorologist would like to gently remind you that news outlets use fear mongering on their weather reports too. Things are almost never as dire or as impossible as they make it sound. Panic pays and the goal is money not accuracy.

Filming something vertically is the best way to get me to completely disregard whatever the hell said video is. Like, it's so blatantly engineered to be slop.
Somebody on Twitter pointed out that almost all of the netflix Avatar show was filmed so that the focus of the action would be at the center, so it could be viewed vertically, like on tiktok

A few years back, I was at an annual conference for meteorology professionals/students. During the last presentation of the evening, a murmur started to spread among the crowd that a forecasted tornadic system was becoming stronger than predicted and was fixing to drop its dangly bits. By the time the last presentation was wrapping up, you could tell that everybody in the room including the presenter was itching to get it over with. When it finally finished, EVERYBODY either scrambled back to their hotel room, or got out their laptops (I did this option) right on the tables and started bringing up our fancy software, radars, etc. What proceeded was an hour of nerds getting soundings, radar data, the odd nocturnal photo here and there, and then absolutely losing our damn minds over colors. To an outsider, it would have been a cult procession. To us, it was Saturday.
Hearing them get so excited over the whale fall is so fun I love hearing people who are passionate about their work

When I went away from home for the first year of college, I badly missed my cat at home. Alot. And just in general, I don't like being from home for so long.
On the second week, I got a package in the mail. It was from my mom, and inside was, along other things, a stuffed black cat. It was evident she bought it, washed it, and wrapped it in this package. It wasn't just a straight amazon package, she filled this box with goodies and those little paper shreds. And two beady eyes stared back at me.
I still have it. And when I'm home or anywhere else, it comes with. I'm never letting go of it, it means too much to me. That my mom knew what I missed the most, and sent me something to love.
sometimes plushies make me cry because it’s like. they’re little guys made to be loved. their only purpose is to be held and hugged and loved. we made them because we love making things and we love loving things. and they’re so cute
