big sisters.
moving back on the bed so that her back was against the wall Margot couldn’t help but grin, shaking her head. this is what she had missed the most when she was at school, stolen moments with her sisters. ones that no one else could ever know about, the ( somewhat ridiculous ) secret theirs and theirs alone. ❝I’m just surprised he hasn’t smelled it out by now,❞ she laughed, shaking her head a little as she took another bite of her slice.
❝Kitty, no! he can never know, do you see how proud he is when we act like his cooking is delicious? he’s trying his best, don’t burst his bubble.❞ just like Margot was doing when it came to the other girls, trying her best. it was hard to do when she was across the ocean, especially when everything had seemed to have fallen apart during her time gone. it broke her heart that Lara Jean and Kitty were left without a role model, an older figure to look after them. it had been that way since their mother died, but she had always been there to fill in – doing the best that she could.
❝sometimes a white lie really is for the best. but don’t tell anyone I told you that!❞
“Sometimes I wonder if he could sleep through a fire,” she couldn’t help but laugh at the idea. It seemed like the trope of an easy sleeping father rested powerfully on his shoulders. That, or perhaps he knew and let the sisters have their time together. Either way, the thought brought a keen smile onto her lips. Their time together was greater than anything else, a friendship their mother had ran into their mind time and time again.
“That would break his pride, Kitty. We need that pride for the meals he’s good at. Like lasagna,” another laugh followed, fingers running through her hair. It wasn’t awful, that or she had gotten quite used to it by now. A shrug of her shoulders followed. “That or you gotta step up, Kitty. Become the master chef in the Covey household,” she tried to keep a serious face for the idea before busting into laughter. They lived in a different world, ever changing, and it shape shifted each sister into a completely different personality.
“You did not just tell her that,” she elbowed Margot, shaking her head. “Lying is only okay when it comes to dad. No white lies ever between the Covey sisters, even if it’s a good one.”
“hey, don’t jinx it!” the comment is followed by a stream of giggling. she loves messing around with her sister, it doesn’t matter what they’re talking about. usually. and lara jean was right, their dad did cook some things well. maybe it was for the best that they didn’t tell him. it didn’t seem right but, it’d lasted them this long. she’s curious to know what her father thinks of his own cooking though. “still.. what if he’s only making it because we keep telling him it tastes just like moms, but he thinks it’s just as bad as we do.”
“you know technically i never lied to you guys. i just, didn’t tell you the whole truth. those are two different things, aren’t they?” she quirks an eyebrow towards her sister, though honestly she knows she’s treading on thin water here with this one. she should really stop bringing up those letters for her own safety. “actually... since we’re on the subject of white lies. lara jean, your singing is a little off pitch and margot, you tell the worst stories sometimes.”

lara jean.
she lets out a sigh and ogles at kitty, cheeks squished where they rested on her fists. at least the mood in the air was a tad bit lighter now. ❛ i can always count on you to ruin the moment, can’t i ? ❜
a slight shrug of her shoulders. she was trying not too, but lara jean was right. kitty wasn’t exactly any good at this whole deep talk thing. “i wish margo was here. this whole advice thing isn’t really my thing.”

lara jean. & margo.
@senttheletters + @doesntlookback PLOTTED for a TRIO STARTER !
It felt right to be all back together again. Margot had returned from her first year of school and the house seemed to be back to normal. Truth be told, Lara assumed her sister wished herself back to Scotland, but that wasn’t going to take away the time the sisters would get to spend together. They were best friends, they always had been, and now they shared their most powerful secret; a late night pizza order after their father’s failed attempt at Korean beef.
Since she could remember, Lara Jean was always the one who made the call. A quiet voice worked well here, shrugging simple directions for the pizza. Kitty, as always, played look out and would then hurry along Margot to retrieve and return safely with the pizza. Now comfortably in Margot’s room, each with a piece in their hands, a bright smile grew onto Lara Jean’s features.
“After all these years and dad still has no clue,” a soft laugh followed. “I know this only because he’d be the first one digging into a Joe’s pizza the second it was in the house.”
thank god for her sisters. if it wasn’t for them, she’d literally have had to settle for dad’s korean beef. not that she wasn’t smart enough to suggest the whole pizza thing, but without margo and lara jean she would have been saving up her allowance for ages just to afford one.
she quickly reaches for a slice, pulling it up as the cheese stretches between her slice and the rest of the pizza until she finally wraps a finger around to break it, blowing lightly on the piece before taking a bite. “you’re right, i don’t know how we manage.” kitty offers with a giggle between bites. “if you two would just let me tell him how horrible of a cook he is, maybe he would start buying the pizza for us.”

wow. lara jean’s best friend was RUDE. and that was putting it lightly. kitty folded her arms across her chest, a slight pout on her lips in defeat. all she wanted to do was tell someone about the great day she’d had. “what is your problem?”

she’s not sure whether to joke around, or be serious about her sisters question. “i don’t know. sometimes i feel disappointed when you eat the last cupcake because i wanted it. but i don’t realize it until it’s gone.”
❛ it’s kind of silly to feel so disappointed about something you only just realized you wanted, isn’t it ? ❜ / OPEN STARTER ; mutuals only.

whoops. she was so excited that lara jean finally had a boyfriend - that’s to her distribution of those letters - and the fact that she didn’t have to ride the school bus that morning that’d she’d completely forgot her manners. her father would not have been very happy about that. a slightly awkward smile etches across the youngest covey’s face. “thanks pete.”
❛ ——— you’re welcome . ❜

lara jean.
“Wait… Really?” There was a glow of excitement and surprise on Lara Jean’s features, a feeling she hadn’t felt in a while since Margot had left. They had been the type of sisters to talk about everything, and while she loved Kitty beyond end, it was hard to find a sincere level to talk on. They had television and movies, the rest of their worlds were foreign to each other. And this, this seemed like a turning point. Until her sister uttered those words. How could she possibly explained the melodramatic thunder that reigned through her veins the moment a crush even mustered. A small laugh followed as she shook her head, lips pursed together.
“I’m going to sound dramatic and cheesy. But it feels like…” she waited. “You know that moment in Sixteen Candles where they kiss and you just feel right? It’s like that. Over and over again, especially when you see them. And-” another pause. “It’s really hard to ignore.”
she could understand that inability to really put the feeling into words. she’s not sure if she’s actually felt it before, but not understanding what a crush feels like, it certainly made sense that it wasn’t easy to explain. lucky they had movies. movies they’d watched together. that truly did help kitty.
“i think i understand.” she offers with a shrug. she understood that suspenseful feeling of wanting any two characters on tv in general to kiss. that sort of light-hearted giddy feeling. and if that’s what a crush felt like, that she hadn’t really ever had one before. not like that anyway. jake ryan was handsome, and even though he was also old now and someone she would probably never meet, their was no feeling like lara jean was trying to describe. not that she dare admit to much of this aloud. but there were glimpses of it in her life. confusing, frustrating glimpses, but they tended to fade. “what about, wanting to sit next to them... accidentally touching knees or elbows or something...? or is that just a thing friends want to do?”

“ Now, are we talking .. regular gummy worms, or sour gummy worms — “ to be fair, either would probably spook Lara jean, but it was a matter of putting a plan into action and if anyone knew how to do that, it was Kitty. “ By the way, we could —- and hear me out, we could get a third party involved. “
“what if we use both?” that made it easier than having to choose. “but i do think the regular ones feel slimier.” there’s a pause in a moment of consideration. “what did you have in mind...?”

she had to be honest. the idea intrigued her immensely. “okay. i admit, the idea of solving a mystery does sound quite fun.” though, a real one would probably be a lot more fun than a simple board game. then again, she’d been behind a lot of mysteries in her short life already - lara jean’s letters included. “i guess i could give it a try.” she’s playing it cool, but really it excites her.
@senttheletters liked for a starter !

“you’ve seriously never played clue?!” she couldn’t believe it, to be honest. clue was one of her favorite board games, even when she was younger. a part of adrian remembered when there were rumors about a clue, which would’ve been the best thing to ever happen to her. “come on, kitty! you have to play clue at least once in your life. have you never wanted to play investigator?”

“OKAY! i got the blankets and pillows and the popcorns in the microwave.” she informs her older sister as she drops the pillows and blankets she’s brought on the sofa and jumps over the back to take a seat, for the moment, on the pile. “what movie are we watching tonight?”
