with his upcoming schedules and preparations, it was almost impossible for him to take a lone walk around—let alone breathe actual fresh air. he’s been practically living in his studio room, falling asleep mid-bite of ramen while touching up the last of his debut album, only running to the dorm to shower and get a fresh pair of clothing. but tonight, he was finally free—well, not completely... considering he ran out of the practice room before their manager could grab onto his collar, dragging him back inside. he only had a short amount of time before his phone would blow up with threats and frantic calls—surprisingly, not from the manager but from his group member, areum. she’d beat his ass before he could even walk inside their dorm. 

his fingers glide up to the brim of his black cap, adjusting it to shield his face as he power walks past the windows of mystic entertainment. he trips, though, catching himself against a stray bike rack, almost garnering attention from the tall staff members inside. at this point, he’s almost about to shit himself, waiting for one of the staff to run outside and bring him into the studio for a scolding. but that never happens. his doe eyes widen as he finally steps forward towards the local convenience store, right palm sitting on his chest as he calms his sudden adrenaline down. 

once inside, he greets the clerk with a big bow and a smile, grabbing a basket for the fifty snacks he’s about to binge on. to ensure his safety, christian skips over towards the cup noodles to grab areum’s favorite ones—but he’s soon greeted with an unfamiliar hand. he glances up at the stranger, stepping back slightly. “oh... you—you’re—”

박리나 asked: are you a rapper or singer? you look like you can rap well, dunno why? but you’re very good looking, hehe. do you get your looks from your father? ㅋㅋㅋ

christian: thank you, park lina-ssi! i get my looks from my mom actually. the only thing i inherited from my dad was my nose... anyways! i sing, though ava is a lot better. it’s crazy how big her vocal range is. mine is subpar compared to hers. i wanted to rap but yoon jongshin president told me i sounded like a tryhard so i stopped.

이현식 asked: what’s it like living with a girl, is it awkward?

christian: it was at first. i have little sisters, but they’re still very young so i never lived with anyone female that was around my age. we didn’t make eye contact for a week until i told her i liked her style and asked where she got it from. she was really confused, since i said it in english and she didn’t catch my vine reference [laughs], but it got us close. after that we talked more. now we’re re~ally comfortable with each other. she farts around me and our manager.

박민영 asked: do you guys fight? what was the biggest fight you had?

christian: groups that don’t fight are strictly business. that means they aren’t close enough to have arguments, and they don’t really know much about each other. we fight when we’re stressed, but it resolves quickly because i can’t stay mad at her for long. 

we had our biggest blowout last year in the winter, over something so small that i can’t even remember now. ava was very sensitive at the time because she missed her family and had thoughts about quitting all together. it was rough. she was yelling out of frustration and suddenly just... picked up her stuff and took a bus home. i called her, and i said a lot of things i regret, but she didn’t pick up.... [pause] wuah, it sounds like a drama... [chuckles] anyways, she didn’t come back for a week. our boss was really upset with her but he understood. he sat us down and we all talked about our feelings that day.

it was the first day i cried in front of her... or anyone else. i let all my tears out, and so did ava. we talked about so many things that day and our friendship grew from then on. we weren’t afraid of confiding in each other anymore. 

송민희 asked: do you get sad sometimes because you’ve been training for that long? ㅠㅠ

christian: truthfully, i am a sad person. i think it’s better for me to talk about this now since i have the chance but i have depression. i was diagnosed when i was in the eighth grade, and i just recently learned how to control it. there’s no point in hiding it because it’s apart of who i am and how i’ve grown.

[pause] i haven’t trained as long as exo suho sunbaenim or nct johnny sunbaenim but it’s been long enough to question if this path is the right one for me. i would think about how i don’t have a college education, so i wouldn’t be able to get a decent job if things fell through. i’d think about my family... how i’d disappoint them. those type of things. it took a toll on my confidence and i just shut down. i would lay in bed after practice, under my covers and sob because that was the only method that helped me sleep at night. i did that for two months.

there’s no real end for my sadness but i control it with medication. i take something every day for it and it helps me control my serotonin levels. i’m confessing this now because i want to be an outlet for my fans and show them that they really aren’t alone. we can fight this long battle together. fighting! 

노지성 asked: your father’s in the army, huh? there’s something cool about that! can i ask where you have lived across the world?

christian: yeah, he’s really cool! very fit and tall. um... well! i was born in america! in san josé, california. i lived there until i was two and then we lived to washington state until i was five years old. then we moved to atlanta, georgia and stayed until i was about eight or nine. my dad got shipped off overseas to italy for a while, around... [pause] four years? but i don’t know how to speak much italian now. i want to learn again though, it was a pretty language to hear. we moved around to guam! that was my favorite place, it was so beautiful. rea~lly beautiful. i lived in austraila and new zealand too, because my dad had time off and he had colleagues over there who wanted to train him. we moved back to san josé before i started high school and now i’m in korea. [chuckles] i’m international, huh?

christian: ahh, thank you! like i said before, i thought about this a lot when i was severely depressed. i didn’t have a backup plan if this failed so i would often panic and cry over the fact that i wasn’t good enough to do anything other than sing. don’t get me wrong, i was good at school but... i just didn’t have a passion for anything other than music. 

but if i really think about it, i would have gone to university in america and just see where that would have taken me. maybe join a greek house or join some type of society. i’d probably work part time somewhere and try to figure out what my goals are before graduate school. [laughs] i’m nothing like areum, huh? she’s so put together and i’m here just... living without a plan.

christian: yes, of course! [leans in closer, putting his hands around the camera] can you believe i’m holding my whole world between my hands right now? ahhhhhh.... yeah.... [sporadic laughing fit]
