“Agent Ross. Good evening to you too.”

Everett freezes like a deer in the headlights, completely, utterly lost for words. Not that he doesn’t want to say something, anything to save the situation, but it’s not particularly easy to think coherently when you just walked in on a man in the shower and the said man, an incredibly good looking man, is now approaching you, still very much naked.

At once, Stephen comes to a halt, looks Everett up and down. Five seconds pass. Ten. Maybe even fifteen. Everett just stares. And stares. Trying to maintain the eye contact, but damn, if it isn’t the hardest thing ever. Finally, he clears his throat, as if to compose himself. He is a professional after all, should be able to handle embarrassment pretty well. Except he actually can’t, not this time anyway.

“Doctor Strange. I… I’ve been looking for you. Your… um, your Cloak let me in and I…  well… here I am. ”

Stephen smirks. “I see. Well, you must have been truly desperate to see me since you decided to walk right into my bathroom. You could have waited in the hallway, you know.”

Everett gulps. God help him, he hasn’t got the faintest clue how to get out of this. He should have waited in the hallway instead of taking a peek through the damn door.

“Yes, yes. I am… sorry. Truly. Very. I… The reason why I am here is… I need your help. And it’s… rather serious.” 

“Serious you say.”

“Yeah. A couple of aliens roaming over Germany.”

“Oh, an imminent threat. Will I even manage to put some clothes on?” Stephen quips.

Everett’s eyes fly wide. “I take that back, it’s not that serious. As a matter of fact, you should have put some clothes on way before we started this conversation, ” he mutters, lowering his eyes despite himself.

Finally, Stephen, reaches to grab a towel and wraps it around his waist before taking a step closer toward Everett. “You should have said I was making you uncomfortable.” 

Everett titters awkwardly. Quite reluctantly, he lifts his gaze to meet Stephen’s eyes again. “Uncomfortable is not the word I’d use.” 

Stephen raises an eyebrow. There’s that playful smirk again. 

It’s ridiculous, Everett thinks, shaking his head, half in amusement, half in frustration. “Christ, why must each of our encounters be this… this awkward?”.

“You tell me. The first time we met you ended up falling into my arms. I think the universe is trying to tell us something,” Stephen teases.

Silence. A smile crosses Everett’s face. He looks away, as if to hide the faint blush upon his cheeks. When he looks back at Stephen, he’s grinning. “Well, what are we going to do about it?”

“I say… aliens can wait.”

i do love the idea of john and sherlock memeing on their old misunderstandings ages later when they’re really settled into their relationship. like sherlock will just walk into the room like “hey mate” and john tackles him to the sofa and tickles him and kisses his neck in revenge. or john taking sherlock on a date and going “so…you have a boyfriend?” or sherlock will be like “hey john so im texting our client back but just fyi it does NOT mean im in love with her” and john is like HSJFKFKFKFK I SWEAR
