If someone had told him in high school what his life would be like when he was his current age, he was fairly certain he’d think they were crazy. Oh, he wouldn’t change how things had turned out for anything, but it definitely wasn’t what he expected at 16.
When he was in high school, he’d thought he’d work at his father’s company and marry his high school sweetheart and have a half dozen kids. Now, though, he hadn’t spoken to his father in a decade, which was fine by him. He did marry someone from his high school, but they weren’t exactly sweethearts, and they didn’t really get to know each other until after he’d graduated. They’d also stopped at three kids (which both of them were fine with).
The one thing he’d been really worried about in high school, though, was turning out like his father. Not being in love with his wife, cheating on her, not caring about his kids.
Well, okay. He could admit he wasn’t in love with his wife. But Robin wasn’t in love with him either! They’re happy being platonically married.
When they were younger and more newly married, he had slept around with people that weren’t his wife, but so did she! It wasn’t like they didn’t know about the other’s escapades, either. (They’d stopped once they decided to have kids, not wanting to risk anything, but now that the kids were growing up, they’d talked about trying to get out there again.)
And the last concern? Now, he doesn’t even know why he was worried about that. He loves his kids more than anything. They’re his whole world, them and Robin.
That is what he wishes he could show that lonely kid, all alone in that big house, wishing his parents loved him, that anyone loved him.
That he’s so happy now. That his life is so full of love.

“Why do you look like that?” Steve asked Robin, looking up at her from the magazine he was reading.
“Like what?” she asked back, turning away from the front window of the Family Video and back to the shelf she’d been stocking.
“I dunno,” he said, gesturing at her. “Like someone killed your cat or something.”
“I don’t have a cat,” she said.
He knew she was being purposefully obtuse. “Robs.”
Finally, Robin let out a deep sigh. “I think Dan’s back in town.”
“Huh?”
“I’m pretty sure I just saw Vickie and Dan walking down the street together,” she said sadly.
Steve put his magazine down immediately and headed over to her. “Oh, I’m sorry, Robbie,” he said in a soft, gentle tone and wrapped her in a hug.

Why was the drive to the high school so long?
Alright, it was less than fifteen minutes from Dustin’s house, but that was fifteen minutes too long some days. Especially the ones like today.
As usual, he picked Robin up first before going to Dustin’s (even though that meant he had to backtrack; he wasn’t dealing with the fight that would ensue from Dustin refusing to give up the passenger seat), and as soon as Dustin got in the car he was harassing the two of them.
“Why won’t you just admit you’re dating already?” he asked. Again. “Like, everyone already knows it, so there’s no point in keeping it a secret!”
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Robin puffing up, capping her mascara instead of finishing the application, and knew this wasn’t going to end well.
“How many times do we have to tell you, mini-dingus? We’re platonic with a capital P!” she snapped at Dustin.
“Yeah, right!” he huffed back at her. “You two are always together, and you’re always hanging off each other.”
“I’m a lesbian!” Robin blurted angrily, and Steve slammed on the brakes, quickly pulling off to the curb.
Damage control. He needed to do damage control.
Already, Robin was shrinking back into her seat, staring through the windshield at nothing.
He looked back at Dustin, who looked so confused and was opening his mouth to say something, but he cut him off with a Look before turning to Robin.
“Hey, Robs,” he soothed, reaching out to hold her hand. “Everything’s okay. It’s just Dustin. He won’t say anything.”
Robin still wouldn’t look at him, so he gave Dustin another Look and gestured toward Robin with his head.
“Yeah, it’s okay,” Dustin said tentatively. “I won’t say anything to anyone. Promise. I don’t care if you like girls.”
“Okay,” Robin said so softly Steve almost didn’t hear her.
“I’m sorry for bugging you guys so much,” Dustin apologized to her. “I didn’t mean to make you feel like that.”
Robin finally turned and gave Dustin a small smile. “It’s okay. I forgive you.”

Mall
For @sept-stobin-extravaganza alt-prompt "mall"

A/N: I know it's late for the event, but I wanted to still post the rest of my fills anyway! Also, this is more Steve than Stobin, but I thought it fit!
Tumblr media
He was not looking forward to this job. If he could’ve picked, he’d have worked just about anywhere else. He didn’t even really like ice cream! But the mall opening meant a bunch of local businesses closed or were cutting back on employees, and everyone else got to all the good mall jobs before him it seemed.
He just hoped his new coworker would be nice. At the interview, the manager told him he’d primarily be paired up with ‘Robin’ for his shifts. Apparently, Scoops Ahoy liked to schedule them in set teams, and she was on his.
Maybe she’d be cute? Maybe he could get a new girlfriend out of this job.

Robin was holding his hand while they sat in Eddie’s living room. “Are you really sure about this?” she asked worriedly. “What if they get infected? What if-”
He cut her off before she could start spiraling, “You act like you don’t have your own piercings.”
“Yeah, dingus. My ears! Not my nipples!” she said, aghast.
Steve just shrugged at her. “It’ll be fine. Eddie knows what he’s doing,” he reassured.
“No, he doesn’t, Steve!” Robin shouted.
From the bathroom, he heard Eddie call, “You know I can hear you guys, right?”
“I’m not talking to you!” Robin yelled back at him, angrily.
“Robin, I’m the one who decided I wanted my nipples pierced. Eddie didn’t talk me into it,” Steve said, trying to convince her.
She just huffed and turned away from him.
With how hard his eyes rolled at her dramatics, he wasn’t surprised they didn’t fall out of his head. Man did he have one dramatic platonic soulmate. Why did it matter to her what he did with his own nipples?
“Coming, Steve?” Eddie called.
“Be right there,” he said, getting up and heading to the bathroom.

Sept Stobin Extravaganza Day 12: Codependent
Rated T | @sept-stobin-extravaganza | 2,183 Words (it's a long'un) | A lot of this story is inspired by this post and some of it's comments/reblogs/etc
The kids hadn’t noticed how close Steve and Robin were at first after Starcourt. Sure, the two were glued together constantly, but Dustin was fairly certain they were dating, and couples spent a lot of time together, right?
And he thought he was being proven correct in his assumptions about their relationship status when he headed over to Steve’s one Saturday in October. He didn’t bother knocking on the front door, just headed straight inside. “Steve?” he called out.
He didn’t hear a response, but he had seen the BMW in the driveway, so he took a look around. The ground floor was empty, and he didn’t see Steve in the backyard, so he headed upstairs. Once he reached the landing, he heard water running from the direction of Steve’s bedroom and ensuite. Honestly, maybe Dustin should have knocked or waited for Steve to come out, but he and his friends didn’t have a lot of boundaries, and also, Steve was like his big brother, so he didn’t think before opening the bathroom door a little (he didn’t look! He knew better than that!) and calling in.
“Steve! I need a ride! Hurry up your shower!” Dustin said.
The voice he heard back was… decidedly not Steve. “What the hell, mini-dingus?” Robin’s voice replied. He heard the curtain rustle, so he peeked his head around the door and met her eyes.
Her hair was all soapy, and she had the most disgruntled look on her face.
“I’m sorry!” he yelped.
Steve’s head popped up over top Robin’s in the gap. “Dude, just go wait in the living room. I’ll be down in, like, twenty, and I can give you a ride then.”
Dustin nodded frantically and hurried out of the room and downstairs.
He waited twenty-two minutes exactly (he kept checking his watch) while wearing a hole in the living room rug before Steve came downstairs, dried and dressed, followed closely behind by Robin.
“I thought you weren’t dating!” Dustin accused them.
Steve had the audacity to look fed up with Dustin. “We’re not.”
Dustin sputtered for a second before saying, “Then what were you doing showering together?”
Both of them just shrugged and didn’t answer his question. And they kept not, for the entire ride to the arcade, where he met up with the others.
Of course, when Dustin told the rest of the Party, none of them took it as seriously as he thought they should.
“So what?” Lucas said. “They’re dating but saying they’re not. What’s it matter?”
“What’s it matter?!” Dustin said, flabbergasted.
Of course, they didn’t realize that wasn’t the end of Steve and Robin being a lot. There were all sorts of things that they started to notice that indicated something more.
Like, one day Mike went into the Family Video to rent a movie to watch that weekend, which wasn’t out of the ordinary. However, when he went to check out, he saw Robin was wearing Steve’s name-tag. He didn’t say anything about it to her, but a couple days later, Dustin brought it up at lunch.
“I went to get a movie after school yesterday, and I get there, and Steve’s wearing Robin’s name-tag!” he told them.
“Yeah, I saw Robin wearing his name-tag on Saturday,” Mike replied.
“Really?” Dustin asked. “I asked Steve why, and he said Robin was sick. Like, I get it; he’s covering her shift or whatever, but why is he wearing her name-tag?”
“Was Steve sick on Saturday?” Lucas asked, thoughtfully.
Dustin thought it over for a minute. “I think so? When I called his house, Robin answered the phone and said something about him having a stomach bug.”
“Hm,” was all Lucas said in response.
Another time, when Lucas called Steve’s house, Robin was the one to answer again.
“Hey, Robin,” he said. “I was calling to ask Steve a question.”
She didn’t even pause before saying, “Sure, what’s up?”
“Um… Well, I wanted to know if he’d help me practice for basketball tryouts, but if he’s not free, I can call back.”
Robin hummed in thought for a moment. “He’ll be by to pick up up on Saturday just after lunch. Like 2-ish. Does that work for you?”
“I… guess?” he told her. “Are you sure that’s fine with him?”
“Yep!” she said, popping the P.
The two sat in awkward silence for a few moments too long. “Okay, bye,” he said quickly and hung up the phone.
Well, Steve showed up at 2PM on the dot Saturday, so Lucas just rolled with it. His mom agreed to stuff for his dad all the time, so this must’ve just been like that.
Now, Max wasn’t around Steve and Robin as much as the boys so she hadn’t been having as many weird experiences as they were, but she definitely had one that stuck out so much that she broke her month-long avoidance to tell them.
It happened when she’d been about to skate home from school and she passed Steve’s car in the parking lot. He raised one hand to her as she approached, Robin at his side.
Max just gave him a tight smile, so Steve let her be and turned back to Robin.
But when he did, Robin just opened her mouth, and he reached in and pulled out her gum and stuck it in his own mouth. What the actual fuck?
Max just straight-up stopped and did a one-hundred-eighty-degree turn and headed back to the entrance of the school where she waited for the boys to come out.
“Max!” Dustin cheered upon seeing her. “What’s up?”
“Have they been super weird around you guys too?” she asked them.
“Who?” Mike asked, brows furrowed.
“Steve and Robin.”
Lucas looked at her carefully. “What’d they do now?”
She paused before telling him. “I just saw Steve pull gum out of Robin’s mouth and put it in his own to chew.”
All three boys chorused, “Ew!”
“Why?” Dustin cried out.
Lucas told her, “We’ve been keeping track. They’ve been insanely weird lately. Dustin thought they were just dating, but this goes way beyond that.”
“Yeah,” Mike chimed in. “Like, we’re not sure if it’s a new thing or if they’ve been like this the whole time, and we just didn’t notice.”
Max hummed, “Hm. Keep me looped in. I wanna know what’s up too.”
Lucas gave her a bright smile. “Sure!”
And the boys did. Every couple days, Max joined them at lunch to compare notes of whatever weirdness Steve and Robin had gotten up to lately. Most of the discoveries were from Dustin, who saw Steve way more than the rest of them, but they all had something. So far, they’d discovered that the two would only ever eat sharing a plate, Robin seemingly never left Steve’s house, and they apparently shared a toothbrush (they all found that one even nastier than the gum thing). One time, Dustin even got traumatized walking in on Steve shirtless with Robin popping a huge pimple on his back.
A few weeks after the gum incident, the four kids were gathered in Steve’s living room for a movie night. It’d been a while since they’d all hung out together outside of school, and technically they still weren’t. The absence of two of their Party members was sorely felt.
Out of the corner of his eye, Dustin saw Steve watch them mope for a few minutes before taking a deep breath and suggesting, “Okay, you know what, why don’t you guys call Will? I’m sure he misses you.”
“Really?” Mike asked, incredulously.
“Yes, really, Mike. It’s not like I pay the phone bill. I’m sure my parents can afford the long distance charge,” he informed the boys.
Then it was a scramble as the three hurried to the phone. Max hung back, though.
“Don’t want to talk to Will?” Robin asked her.
“No,” she told her. “If I could, I’d talk to El, but you know she can’t come on the phone.”
Robin sighed. “Yeah. That sucks, kiddo. Want to get your nails painted while we wait? I did ours earlier.” She patted the cushion next where they were practically glued together on the couch.
Max thought about it for a moment before nodding. “Sure,” she agreed and sat on the couch. “Wait.” She went back over what Robin said. “Our nails?”
“Oh yeah!” Steve said cheerfully. “Robs painted our toes earlier.” He wiggled them on the rug, and they were indeed painted; they were even in the same shade as Robin’s toes.
“Yeah! We don’t like polish on our hands, so toes only!” she said. “But I can paint your fingers.”
“… Okay.” Max picked a color from the bag Steve offered her and sat patiently while Robin painted, Steve holding the bottle for her.
When Robin had finished the first coat, she capped the bottle and said to Max, “I need to take a pee break! Let that dry, and we’ll finish it when we get back.”
Max raised an eyebrow at her. “Where’s Steve going?” she asked, since Steve got up too.
“… The bathroom?” he said, confused.
“Together?” Max asked them.
Robin just shrugged, and the two headed into the guest bathroom off the living room.
Whatever. If the two wanted to sneak off to make-out and lie very obviously about it, she wasn’t going to say anything.
Eventually, after her second coat was dried and the three of them had started watching TV, the boys came out of the kitchen, finished with their call to Will.
“How’s baby Byers?” Steve asked.
The boys told him all about what was going on in Will’s life, while Steve and Robin just nodded along and listened.
“Cool,” Robin said when they were all done. “Sounds like you had a good chat.”
“Mhm,” Steve added. “Now, what do you all want for dinner?”
All four of them looked at each other before saying in unison, “Pizza!”
Of course, getting all of them to agree on pizza toppings was a nightmare. It took almost 30 minutes of haggling with Steve over what he was willing to pay for. Mike only wanted pepperoni, Lucas didn’t really care but didn’t want too many ‘wet’ toppings, and Max wanted anything but pepperoni to be contrary to Mike.
“I want supreme,” Dustin told him.
“Okay, but no mushrooms. We’re allergic,” Steve told him.
Dustin stared at him for almost a full minute before saying slowly, “You’re not allergic to mushrooms, Steve. I’ve seen you eat them at my house before.”
“Well, Robin’s allergic,” he said matter-of-factly with his hands on his hips. “So no mushrooms.”
“Robin can just have a different pizza, Steve! The mushrooms are important to the balance of the supreme pizza. Without them, both the taste and texture are altered.”
Steve pinched the bridge of his nose. “It’s either no mushrooms or no supreme pizza, Henderson. You’re the only one who wanted it, and I’m not about to order a specialty pizza just for you.”
“But-!”
“Nuh-uh. Those are your two options,” he said firmly.
Dustin rolled his eyes so hard they almost rolled out of his head. “Fine. No mushrooms. God!”
When he stomped back over to the Party, he complained to them about what just happened.
“So because Robin can’t eat mushrooms, he can’t either?” Max asked.
The four looked over to where the two were standing at the landline, Steve dialing to order the pizza.
“Maybe it’s a serious enough allergy that they can’t kiss if he’s eaten any?” Lucas suggested.
“Maybe,” Dustin conceded. “But you know, I’ve never seen them kiss… Like even once.”
The rest of the group thought over all the past interactions they’ve observed and agreed.
“They might not like PDA,” Mike said.
Max chimed in, “Maybe they’re really not dating. Maybe they’re just weird.”
“They were showering together,” Dustin said to her.
“True…” she conceded. “And I saw them go to the bathroom together earlier tonight. Pretty sure that was to have a secret make-out session,” Max added.
“Really?” Lucas asked her.
“Mhm.”
“They’re like my grandparents,” Lucas said to them all.
Mike frowned. “What do you mean?”
“Like, they’re so in-tune, as if they’d been together forever. But then sometimes they’re so weird it’s not like my grandparents at all,” he explained.
“Like with the name-tags thing?” Dustin asked.
“Yeah!”
“Who even knows with those two,” Max said. “Maybe they’re just trauma-bonded or whatever. And it messed them up along the way.”
“No way!” Dustin insisted. “Steve’s not like that.”
“Gum, Dustin,” she said. “I saw him pull it right out of her mouth.”
“Ew, yeah. Maybe you’re right.”
Mike added, “Too bad El’s not here. She’d be able to figure out whatever was going on.”
The group saw as Robin poked Steve in the chest as he was hanging up the phone, and Steve said, “That was right in the nipple!” and clutched his chest.
“Score!” she cheered, laughing. He started chuckling too, leaning in and resting his head on her shoulder.
“Yeah,” Max agreed. “They’re too weird to figure out without superpowers.”

Sept Stobin Extravaganza Alt-Prompt: "Steve. Wear the Shorts."
Rated T | Decent amount of swearing | @sept-stobin-extravaganza | 471 Words
Steve stood in his bathroom, checking himself out in the full-length mirror and inspecting the costume Robin picked out for him. He could see almost his entire leg because of where the hem on the shorts landed. When he turned, he could even see a little cheek.
He tried pulling on the bottom of the shorts to cover himself up a little more, but then his ass started to fall out of the top. Sure, he was a bit of a slut, but he also didn’t want to show off this much.
“Robin!” he yelled. She was the one who told him to put these on, and she would have to be the one to answer to him.
They’d been debating for the last two months what to dress up as for Halloween (obviously they had to have matching costumes; that wasn’t even up for debate), and Robin finally got tired of his hem-ing and haw-ing and just told him that she’d show up the night-of with their outfits.
And now she was trying to get him to wear… He wasn’t even sure what the outfit was. All he had so far were these skimpy white shorts with black spots on them.
He grabbed the larger bag she’d handed him, hoping there would be more outfit in there.
There wasn’t. When he looked inside, there was a headband with a pair of black dog ears and a tail that matched his shorts. Was he supposed to be a dalmatian?
He yelled for Robin again. Finally, he heard footsteps approaching from down the hall.
“Yeah?” Robin called, outside the bathroom door.
Steve yanked the door open and glared at her. He was about to chew her out, when… “What are you wearing?”
She had on a full-sized jumpsuit with vinyl decorations that was designed to look like a firefighter’s uniform.
“My costume?” she asked him, looking blankly at him like he was the stupid one.
“Why am I going out in practically my underwear, when you get to wear all that?” he asked her, exasperatedly, gesturing to her costume.
“You’re not in your underwear; you’ve got a full costume,” she told him, being purposely obtuse, Robin, God damn it.
Steve went to take the shorts off and said, “I’m not wearing this. We’re finding me a different costume.”
“Steve,” she said firmly, “wear the shorts.”
He gaped at her. “No!”
He watched her eyes calculate for a moment, before her face twisted up into an upset expression. “You don’t want to match me?” He swore he could see tears forming in her eyes.
“God, Robin! You’re such a bitch!” he fumed and jammed the ear headband onto his head.
She was instantly all smiles again. He knew she’d been faking! “You love me!” she said. “Now let me draw your puppy-nose on.”

September Stobin Extravaganza Day 10 - Double Date
Tumblr media
Steve, Nancy, Vickie, and Robin on a Halloween double date, for @sept-stobin-extravaganza.❤️🍦💙
So glad I finally got an inspiration to draw them in the sailor outfits (LOVE THEM) AND create the double date scenario that @zoe-cloe suggested here.🥰
Nancy's costume is her dress from s5, which has been theorised to be a "candy striper" uniform, as well as a reference to Steve's celebrity crush Phoebe Cates in Fast Times.
Vicki's costume is that of the character Maiden Curly Crown, from the Lady Lovely Locks franchise (I think it came out in 1987, but this would take place post-s5 any way). I searched for red-haired 80s characters and picked this because I loved the franchise as a child.😁💖💛

Sept Stobin Extravaganza Alt-Prompt: "For You? Absolutely."
Rated T | @sept-stobin-extravaganza | 754 Words | Sequel to Day 5's Fill Here
Steve and Robin had been “dating” for close to seven months now. Robin was almost about to graduate, and her parents were making noises about what the two were going to do after.
Before everything that happened at the mall, she’d been set on moving out of Hawkins to a bigger city and going to school to be a professional translator, but now? Steve was here, so here she’d stay. She figured she could always go in a few years once the kids were grown.
Her parents were kind of hippies, so they just wanted her to be happy, but they also wanted to see her taken care of.
“I hope he’s planning on proposing to you soon,” her mom told her one night at dinner.
“Mom! I haven’t even finished school yet!” Robin protested. “You couldn’t at least give me until summer before you started saying something?”
“She’s right, though,” her dad said, taking another bite of casserole. “You two are so sweet together. We just want you to be happy, Birdie, like how we are.”
Robin just pushed the rest of her food around on her plate and ignored her parents until she could be excused to go back to her room.
She laid in bed that night, just staring at the ceiling, thinking about what her parents said. Why not get married? It’s not like she would ever be able to get married to someone she was in love with, and she planned for the two of them to spend the rest of their lives together. Wasn’t that what marriage was anyway? Committing your life to someone?
The more she thought about it, the less downsides she saw. In March, when Steve’s bat bites got infected, they wouldn’t let her in his room until he woke up and made them. They’d never be able to keep the two apart. She could make sure she was the one making medical decisions for him instead of his parents who were never around and didn’t care.
They could find a place to live together without being judged for “cohabitating out of wedlock” or even buy a house together. She knew he didn’t want to stay at his parents’ house any longer than he had to.
He wanted kids, too. Sure, Robin hadn’t always been the biggest fan of kids, but the more she was around the little dorks that followed Steve everywhere, the more open she was to them. If Steve was having kids, they’d be just as much hers too. The thought of having sex with Steve made her want to gag, but she wouldn’t mind figuring out some other way to carry a baby for him.
The only thing that was holding her back? Steve himself. She couldn’t stop him from marrying someone he loved. He could still find a girl and fall in love and want to marry her. He’d said before that he’d marry her, but did he really mean it?
Without even thinking about the time, Robin crept down the stairs to the phone and punched in the number to Steve’s private line.
“Hullo?” she heard his voice come through, groggy and thick with sleep.
“Steve!”
She heard the rustle of sheets over the line. “Robin?” he said back, much more awake this time. “It’s like three in the morning? Is something wrong?”
“Did you mean it when you said you’d marry me?”
“Wait, what?” he sounded so confused.
“When you asked me out,” she started, being mindful of the fact that her parents could potentially wake up and overhear, “did you mean it when you said you’d marry me?”
“Well… Yeah? I wouldn’t have said it otherwise,” he answered.
“Are you one-hundred percent sure?” she checked again.
“Yes, Robin! For you? Absolutely!” he said back, exasperatedly. “Is this the only reason you called me and woke me up? We have work in the morning!”
“Well, the answer’s ‘yes,’ dingus!”
“For… waking me up?” he asked. “Rob, you’ve gotta be clearer. I’m still over here half asleep.”
Robin took a deep breath. “The answer’s ‘yes,’ I’ll marry you!”
The other end of the line was silent for a moment. “Like, right now? It’s 3AM.”
“Ugh!” she huffed and slammed the phone on the receiver.
“Congrats, honey!” she heard her dad call from her parents’ room.
“Yeah, Birdie! Nail that boy down!” her mom called too.
“Arghhh!” Robin screamed, as loud as she could, in frustration, and stormed off to her room. Why did she even bother with these people?

Sept Stobin Extravaganza Day 10: Double Date
Rated G | @sept-stobin-extravaganza | 128 Words
“Robs!” Steve called to Robin from the couch. “How long are you going to leave your date alone out here?”
He heard he yell back from the kitchen, “Just give me a minute! Geez! I was thirsty.”
Steve looked over to where Robin’s date was sitting on the far side of the couch and then glanced at his date. “She’s feeling like a third-wheel out here, Robbie!”
Robin’s head popped around the archway into the kitchen, looking at all of them. She shook her head. “You’re such a dingus.”
Steve snuggled further into his girlfriend pillow and reached over to shake Robin’s. “Look at her! She’s dying from lack of attention.”
“Oh my God!” Robin complained, heading back into the kitchen. “I never should have bought these things!”
