NEW BENTONCARTERKNIGHT FIC SNIPPET!
this time from yet another unreliable narrator (kerry, having No Idea the dynamic going on between the three of them, yet trying her hardest to deduce it)
anyways. s5 bentoncarterknight fic commence!
#i think i'm starting to get a hang of kerry's point of view#sometimes in writing fic you've just got to straight-up Tell what the deal is with your pov character.#to get the translation-from-source-to-fic completed in a reasonable amount of words#bentoncarterknight#wip

really is bizarre the way fandoms largely do not like women at ALL. itâs been happening for ages but when you see people straight up just hating on women characters more often now (+ the general rise in misogyny) and then you come on here and everyoneâs just pretending women donât even EXIST in any media ever. itâs like thatâs not much better. fandom isnât activism but it does reveal peopleâs internal biases. like women being excluded, sidelined and erased in everythingggg. people will take characteristics that are compelling in a female character and give it to a man in fan content just so they donât have to engage with a woman ever. fics, fan art, ships, etc. a hollywood produced movie/tv show wonât even sideline a woman as much as the average fandom blogger will
#i Unloaded in the tags of a similar post (about the derision towards f/f in fandom) a month or so ago and i CAN'T FIND IT AGAIN#but. it's so interesting to me that when you look at fandom cultures populated by men (your stereotypical reddit fandoms for instance)#it's not like they equally cut men out of their work or analysis or even porn#like. this isn't happening in reverse. so when i hear counter-arguments that women characters aren't included in fandom spaces here because#the writer isn't attracted to them or the character isn't written well in the source material...#pretty sure the folks over on ye stereotypical reddit are attracted to women and yet are doing deep dives into mens' interiority no problem#it's only happening in this single direction. ergo. i think it's misogyny#i really wish i could find that other post bc i think i really was onto something wrt hypothesizing why SPECIFICALLY this happens#in m/m fandom spaces. some intersection of 1) only interacting In Fandom with characters you are attracted to. and making that#the cornerstone of how you engage w it online. and#2) if you are a woman making m/m content there may be internal anxieties about that. to which an answer from you the author#might be: well if i don't have any women in my fic then there's definitely no sidelined woman wrt the overarching m/m--#and therefore no woman that could be seen as a self-insert or reflection of the author. to remind people that this is not#from the personal experience of the author--and then the result is that there are no women at all.#fandom misogyny

The crewâs banner is a sacred thing. It must simultaneously strike fear in the hearts of hardened men while inspiring and unifying all those those who sail under it. It must be something approaching perfection.
