Design Inspiration #15: 8 Ways To Protect Biodiversity by Rui Ma
These posters are just stunning. This is such a simple design, but they are eye-catching and spark curiosity of the viewer. I think these are really important design qualities to have when designing for good. The main graphic elements all feel related in the series, but the change in color is great for setting them all apart from each other. I also love that the designer created logo marks to represent the individual category.

Design Inspiration #14: Black Sabbath Gig Poster by Rodolfo Jofre
The color palette sticks out to me the most in this poster. Personally, I would have been scared that the contrast of the orange and tan would not be strong enough and the hand drawn illustrations would get lost, but they really don't. I think the strong saturation of the orange is what saves the contrast here, along with the black elements that pop out the most. I think this is a beautiful mix of the typical band poster vibe with the font choices and a more classical approach to the sketchy illustrations. This mix of styles adds more interesting contrast and makes for a more unique execution.

Design Inspiration #13: Cann Social Tonics Branding and Website
Not only is this packaging really nice with its minimalist approach to a normally kind of chaotic illustration patterning, but the website is a UX dream. It is so visually interactive with the animation of carbonation bubbles in the background and the flow of information as you scroll through the webpage. The bright color blocks were a great way to divide up content throughout the single scroll layout and well as the use of bold, clean typefaces.

Design Inspiration #12: San Benito Coffee Shop Branding by Tony Balderama
I love everything about this branding, from the color palette to the illustration style, this designer created an awesome brand tone. The graphic assets have that hand drawn feel that compliment that sort of 3D line effect to create a nostalgic/relatable feel. The color palette being more on the pastel side sets a more mellow vibe that supports the product.

Design Inspiration #11: Kurt Gebauer Sculpture Exhibition Magazine by Studio Najbrt
What is so great about this magazine is the attention to the details and styles that are special to the sculptor. The pink is his favorite color, so the designer choose to use it as a color burn over personal pictures of the artist and the headline text color. The headline typeface is also a personal typeface that the sculptor uses in his works. The layout of the spreads are very visually pleasing and create a nice flow for the viewer.

Design Inspiration #10: Beats by Dr. Dre Banner Designs by Vadim Umbriaco
These banners are just simply striking. The repetition of the background circle that pays homage to the shape of the headphones themselves is smart. I think the minimal layout is working to draw the eye into the central focal point of the figures. Although the treatments of the figure images is different, there is still a consistent glossy/shiny texture that still makes them feel related. This texture also brings me back to the tactile feel of the product.

Design Inspiration #9: Universal Studios Monsters Packaging Series
Mattson Creative is by far my favorite design studio. I particularly enjoy this packing series for the flat style imagery. I feel this is a great way to blend the different character styles so they all feel cohesive within the series. There is also nice texture coming through from the background elements and patterns that don't overwhelm the layout. The color palette provides an excellent contrast and creates differentiation between the different packages.

Design Inspiration #8: Mortis Studio's Cargo Site
The functionality of this webpage is what I love the most about it. I love the list of works that you can click through on the left side of the page and then there is a great consistency with the way the content in displayed on the right. I also love a good nostalgic vibe and think the added elements on the bottom right really support this concept and add great movement and interactive qualities to the site. It is clear and easy to use yet has these almost confusing elements intertwined that make you want to keep interacting with the webpage.

Design Inspiration #6: iBooks on the Apple Store
The use of realistic imagery and colors to provided a virtual tactile experience that the user might otherwise be missing in a digital format is a unique twist on a user experience. The switch from standard, hands-on reading to a virtual one can be a big bridge for some people to cross, and this is a great way to bring in that same feeling just in a slicker, lighter, and more customizable experience. Not to mention all the options provided in a convenient, sorted location.

Design Inspiration #5: Typographic Poster Designed by Kevin Olberg
I find this curtain texture combined with the type to be really intriguing. The font is obscured, but this forces the viewer to take a closer look to digest the information. I also found it interesting that the designer basically broke all the the type setting rule for the paragraph text to the left. (Hyphens and justified text) This is typical a huge no-no, but I think in this instance it works in supporting this idea of illegible type.

Design Inspiration #4: Pandora Application Emotional User Experience
A fantastic feature of Pandora is their ability to know what I'm thinking and always plays a plethora of songs that are unique to my tastes. The thumbprint radio is the single greatest thing in my life. I think this was such a genius idea when they dropped the station a few years back. It gave a reason to all those songs I've been liking all this time and its such a reliable source of music for me, even when I don't know what I'm in the mood for. Another important note, is the functionality of the integration into my phone with the use of widgets and play bars in the drop down/lock screen. This relieves a lot of frustrations of switching between apps and keeps me from being a distracted driver which I appreciate.

Design Inspiration #3: Xbox ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ Marketing Event
I love this example of experience design because it is such an immersive marketing event. Xbox created a live event stunt in London to promote the new Rise of the Tomb Raider video game where select participants were chosen to try and last a 24 hour period on a billboard in extreme conditions and the whole thing was live streamed on Twitch. This is such an innovative and unique way to create buzz about a game release while also directly targeting their target audience.

Design Inspiration #2: Website for Artist Rosalia by Vitali Zahharov
The way this designer used text in some really unique ways is what caught my eye about this website. I love the use of text as a border and texture for the different webpages, but they are actually references to the artists career. There is some easily digestible text throughout that helps the user get the information they are looking for, but the designer did a good job of not losing that text within the more visual textual elements. He has created some really great visuals by utilizing certain text elements to draw the eye around the site and create an experience for the viewer.

Design Inspiration #1: Salami Packaging by Pranjal Uday, Sanjeet Gadkari
I think this is an excellent example of form vs. content because it presents itself in a couple ways. The obvious relationship being that the package is an actual pig that holds the salami, where the package takes on a literal translation. Then theres the functionality of the packaging design. The idea is that this is a storage container that adapts to however small your salami becomes. Also, when you are done with it the two pig ends are reusable for storing other things around the house (just like butter tubs).
