i also wanted to add that the majority of shameless characters are also rapists/have committed nonconsensual acts of intimacy or whatever you wanna call it.
they are just being hypocrites and ignorant because they just happen to dislike debbie gallagher
Ppl on TikTok really got me wondering if I should actually like Debbie

no i get this feeling as well but at the same time, the whole matty thing was still strange.
i do believe that rape is an act that anyone can do, even if they are younger than the victim.
but i think the one thing that separates debbie from a predator is that i don't believe she was fully aware that what she did was assualt; whereas a predator is fully aware of what they are doing and that their intentions are malicious.
it's hard to believe that she didn't know what she was doing because in the earlier seasons, she was so intelligent and as the series goes on, they literally dumbed her character down just to make her seem like a (excuse the strong language) cunt.
but who knows, it's still a great potential that she failed to understand what she did was wrong but i guess it's different depending on how you view it.
i honestly think that had matty not confronted her, she probably wouldn't have ever known it was rape.
i also don't want to victim blame matty by saying that he shouldn't have been hanging with debbie, etc. even though big age gap friendships usually are predatory. (speaking from my experience but i do have some friends that are older than me but i view them as siblings so idk if that counts)
i feel like the best case scenario would've been matt ending his 'friendship' with her. i get that he probably didn't want to hurt her feelings/self esteem but the whole thing was fishy and extremely uncomfortable to watch.
OH! i also think holly was a huge influence on debbie as well when it came to the whole matty and debbie situation.
im going to write more about this in the near future because i don't want to make this any longer.
Ppl on TikTok really got me wondering if I should actually like Debbie

Terry Milkovich was a homophobic neo-Nazi, consistently beat his son, sexually abused his daughter, and then payed for his son to be sexually assaulted.
Frank Gallagher was a self-centered drunk, neglectful of his children, consistently emotionally abused them, and sometimes physically abused them.
Monica Gallagher was a self-centered addict, neglectful of her children, consistently left them with an abuser, and would emotionally manipulate them.
Sheila Jackson was a woman who was more concerned with her sex/love life over her daughter, neglected her daughter, slept with her daughter’s husband, and chose a baby that wasn’t hers over her actual daughter.
But sure, Debbie is the worst parent in the show. (sarcasm)

season 1 is set in 2010.
in episode 1, the first dialogue between characters (not including fiona waking them up, etc) is about the electric bill when they are sitting at the table.
the fridge has a calendar with it being opened on November 2010. it is not hard to put the puzzle pieces together since the 15th has a note with "electric due" written on it.
which leaves us with s1, ep1 being set in the year 2010, November 15th.
fiona would've been 21.
lip is 16 and ian is a year younger so that makes him 15.
debbie is 10, almost 11 (debbie is born in December, so for the sake of the calculations, im rounding her age to 11 because december isn't even that far off.)
carl is just 2 years younger than debbie, meaning that he is 9 years old.
and liam is 18 months. he must've been born just a year previously. a year consists of 12 months. this leaves us with the conclusion that liam is 1 year and 6 months old.
it's actually really easy to figure out their birth years. all you have to do is subtract their age in s1 from 2010.
e.g. fiona = 2010 - 21 = 1989
lip - 1994
ian - 1995
debbie - 1999
carl - 2001
as demonstrated a bit further up, liam is 18 months old (1 year and 6 months) in season 1.
this means liam was born a year prior to 2010 (2009). im not sure what date he was born but if i had to estimate, i would say around the middle of may.
we only know that he is 18 months, it does not specify the days.
correct me if im wrong because these are just calculations and estimates, which were also their confirmed ages in season 1 by google.
p.s. this could be incorrect.
the shameless writers suck at sticking to plots and timelines.
i saw this reddit post about how debbie says to monica that her birthday isn't until december but in s2, debs says that her birthday is in october.
honestly, i headcannon debbie gallagher is a december baby. idk, it just makes sense to me but maybe im biased because im born in december and i love finding out that my favourite characters are also born in december lmao.
This is so random but I cant stop thinking about it but what year do guys think the Gallagher siblings were born?

i feel like women and teenage girls can't enjoy something they like without being shitted on.
maybe it's because of misogyny, but i also think that society just wants to watch the world burn.

i saw somebody on twitter say that being a Taylor Swift fan in 2024 feels like being a jew in 1938.
i am very neutral when it comes to taylor swift in general and although i agree that swifties are often hated on, this could've been worded a lot better.
yes it is stupid to be hated on because of something so simple such as your music taste, but that does not give you the right to compare your experience to a fucking genocide.
like how can you even compare those 2 things?????

i often see people commenting about Emma Kenney and how she came out to say that emmy rossum wasn't a joy to be around on set and what not;
they say shit like how emma kenney is a brat on shameless and irl and i think that is so strange.
yes, you watched her act in a show, but this doesn't equal to knowing her personally.
you do not know her and she does not know you, how would you know if she is a so called brat?
with that being said, emma kenney is not bad at acting either. the casting directors would have not accepted her if they didn't think she would be good, or shall i say PERFECT; for the role.
and no, just because you dislike her does not mean nobody likes her.
her social media following says otherwise and the multiple blogs that write for her and her character debbie gallagher also prove you wrong.
and yes, so what if emma kenney said positive things about emmy rossum?
a human can be your favourite person to walk this earth but simultaneously be a horrible person.
i do not believe that emmy rossum is abusive, i think it was a financial matter.
i do agree that she one of the reasons shameless was so liked and that she was infact under paid but to take it out on your coworkers, let alone coworkers who are minors?
that's a whole different thing. she did not deserve to be under paid but she was not in the right to act shitty towards the people she works with.
hating on a real person because you dislike their work and portrayal of a fictional character is fucking delusional and downright insane.
like i am truly in shock.
p.s., this post was fuelled by this weird ass tiktok post on my fyp about how emma went on a podcast to talk about her ON SET. experience, so you can probably already see what the comments looked like.
if you can't imagine what the comments were, its just people being ignorant and weird because they are busy dick-riding a character they like a lot vs a character they hate so much that they are willing to go as far as invalidate a person's experience.

Okay, I'm sorry but I just can't forgive Fiona.
Hear me out.
When it was revealed that Ian had been sleeping with Ned/Jimmy's dad, Fiona didn't talk to anybody involved about how wrong this was and how weird this whole situation is. Instead she's more annoyed with Jimmy's behavior. (His behaviour, I might add, is to be appalled not that his father is a pedophile, but that he's gay.)
Ian takes off. Fiona is fine with this because she "trusts him". Excuse me? Why exactly do you trust him again? Like. I adore Ian. But his behaviour is not a great sign!! You knew that he'd been sleeping with older men, taken up with the local scary teen thug- son of the neighborhood Nazi, and then disappeared only sending one short text. Don't trust that!! So many red flags! Like where's CFS asking about Ian?? She doesn't even mention him in her legal/custody related court stuff. Sorry but she essentially LOST HIM!!?!?!???
And finally. He comes back and he's acting "caffeinated" and you are clearly at least slightly disturbed by his behaviour. And now he's back with that neighborhood thug again, AND NOW HE'S DANCING UNDERAGE AT A CLUB?!?!!! Fiona makes faces and rolls her eyes and acts like "welp! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Nothing I can do as his LEGAL GUARDIAN OR ANYTHING."
It's neglect. It's just straight up child neglect. And like, sure, I think all the kids are neglected in some way or another. But this is just so blatant and not caused by a lack of necessities. It would cost them nothing to talk to Ian about this. Or a multitude of other reactions to all the above scenarios that aren't just brushing off the problem at every opportunity.

i wish we saw mandy learning how to cook new things and fiona washing the dishes at the same time whilst she supervises and tells mandy how to cook a certain meal, what ingredients are needed and the different methods.
i wish we saw them baking a cake or cookies for a birthday or celebration together.
we were robbed of so many sibling bonds/characters that were pitted against each other yet had so much potential. (not romantically)
Mandy milkovich I'm so sorry you never got the big sister you needed

honestly, ian gallagher was failed because the gallaghers don't actually understand what it really is like to be bipolar.
i've noticed they have said that ian being bipolar doesn't change anything or that they know what bipolar is because of monica.
i do believe that is true but only to an extent.
i feel like fiona and lip knew what bipolar was due to seeing it in another relative (monica) but knowing the symptoms and actually knowing how to treat it are two different things.
understanding it is a whole different thing.
when watching shameless, i always feel sick whenever I see them doing their thing and whatever to help ian and i know it sucks to hear but sometimes it's just better to leave it to the professionals.
had the gallaghers believed in therapy and didn't allow their dignity/pride to get the best of them, the story would be different.
in conclusion, ian and pretty much every other gallagher; but mainly ian. had a difficult time in life because all of them were either in denial or just simply did not want to go to therapy because they were most likely scared at what could be the outcome, scared of what could've been their best version of themselves.
this could be because of the fact that they are from the south side and for some reason, pride & dignity is worth more than a better version of yourself.
(oh and the fact that everyone on the south side in shameless all think they are south side scum who are incapable of having a good life so they allow themselves to suffer)
sorry but if my father broke my little brother’s nose i would be happy to know he was in another country and wouldn’t bother to get him back. if i found out my boyfriend’s dad was having an affair with my brother i would kill the father, and if my boyfriend didn’t have an issue with his father being a pedophile i’d end the relationship because of that. if my brother was getting drunk every day and not leaving his bed for days on end i would worry and help him. if my brother, who’s a child, ran away for months on end after doing all of that and all i heard was a single text (with no information) from him i would file a missing persons report. if he came back acting completely different and i could tell he was prostituting himself, he would be quitting that job and getting some help. if i let that all happen, and years later, i acknowledge he’s unstable and see that he now as a church where he is basically seen as god, i would get him the help he needs before he gets himself into more danger. ian gallagher was failed.

it's like people can't have their own opinion :(
i will walk through literal fire for debbie, she's so much more than a fictional character for me.
and it's so funny because i remember when i first joined the fandom and everybody was like fiona this, fiona that and because of it, it didn't give me any space or time to have my own opinion about different characters.
and it's not like i even 100% hate fiona, it's just her stans; debs and fiona are sisters, you cannot erase that no matter how hard you try.
i feel like the more people have been posting positive things about debbie gallagher, the more people have started to come out and say they really do love her but were scared of getting harassed over it, and it’s making me realize there may not be as many debbie haters as i thought they’re just hiding because this fandom is mean😭 i’m fully convinced half of the people who say they hate debbie don’t really hate her they just don’t want judgement

fuck you to the shameless producers for deleting a scene between debbie and fiona where fiona wants debbie at her wedding and also attempts/suggests that they both move on from fighting because they are both sisters and it will be like that for the rest of their lives.
that scene was so important because people always try to pit fiona and debbie against each other and it was one scene talking about regrets, forgiveness, sisterhood and fiona literally telling debbie that she loves her which is significant to me as someone who struggles with love in general and has a distant relationship with my sister.
sorry, i got off track but the point im making is that it does not matter if you like fiona more or hate debbie's guts because at the end of the day; they are related, family and the only 2 girls in their family.
im actually getting sick of seeing girls, women and sisters being against each other.
nobody will ever understand a girl more than a girl does. i will say this over and over again.
because girlhood is so important and girls just wanna have fun but you legit can't do that when you're busy fighting your own sister.
like knowing that we could've gotten a scene where debs and fiona apologise, forgive and move on.
wym we could've had an actual strong sister bond between the 2? instead of them arguing 24/7???????
i am upset at what could've been but didn't happen all because the producers decided to switch up last minute and completely try to make a TEENAGE GIRL look like she's a horrific person who deserves to be burnt at the stakes.
