The Mystery of Colin Sethfyre
Key: Bold - Scene/ Scene Header, Italic - Shot, Underline - Stage Directions
Ext. Large Mansion at the end of a small road. Day. light sunny/rain.
Extreme Long shot
A large quaint mansion block at the end of a long road in a small neighbourhood, a few convenience stores dotted among houses and apartment complexes. The large ancient red-brick mansion stands currently as a four-house apartment complex, as opposed to the fabled 'Lord Sethfyre Manor' it had been before, with its marble-slate roof glistening in the sunlight through the drizzle, the large front door's brass doorknobs turned, creaking the double doors open.
Zoom into door, focus inside facing grand staircase/landlord walking across landing
Richard Sethfyre's Room. int. dim lighting, day.
Landlord walks in and closes door behind himself
LANDLORD
Hello Richard, How are you this fine evening?
RICHARD SETHFYRE
Not bad, have you found that child yet?
LANDLORD
There are NO children here. I told you, I've searched everywhere.
RICHARD SETHFYRE
Not quite everywhere. there are some areas of the house which have been covered with false walls, I do believe he hides in those alcoves. after all, you remember I'm related to Tabitha and Matthew, the original owners of the manor.
LANDLORD
ah fair enough. here, I found this sheet music up in the attic, I believe it was one of Tabitha's.
RICHARD SETHFYRE
Thank you my dear man, now if you'd please, I have some reading to do!
Richard Laughs whilst holding the paper to the Landlord.
proceeds to go and sit at his piano
Child watching through small attic door at old Richard. listening with intent
RICHARD SETHFYRE
I... I know you are there child... I've been watching and listening out for you, but you always manage to evade my grasp. why don't you just come and speak with me. I'm not losing my mind, I'm not insane.
he still isn't certain. but I know he's seen me. maybe I should be more cautious to avoid his gaze. he is smarter than he looks.
Please, reveal yourself. I will not harm you, all I want is to have some kind of an inclination as to if you are there. please...
I thumped on the ground. hard, but not massively hard. just enough for the old man to hear.
y-you are there... so you can hear me.
Richard reassures himself and continues talking with more certainty
would you like me to play you a song on the piano? you might know it. thump once for yes, and twice for no.
I thumped once, as I was curious to hear it
Song begins, child's eyes widen drastically
Goes to Extreme close-up on child's eyes as they widen
Richard continues to play the song, with the sounds becoming hopeful, the song's eerie tone in the piano gives the child a feeling, mysteriously the child looks into his mirror, reflecting on himself and his brother as young children. he looks up to see that the old man is struggling to read the music as it's paper is old and withered.
RICHARD SETHFYRE'S ROOM. INT. DIM LIGHTING purple Glowing Hue, Evening.
Colin Sethfyre (The Child)
My mother's song... it- it can't be?!
The child feels almost rejuvenated by the song, and he wants to go down and hug the old man. but doesn't as he feels too nervous and lonely.
The song keeps playing, and from the mystery, it goes to hope, keeping the child's spirits raised. both Colin and Richard breathe in and out, seeing the room around Richard begin to become misty with the hue of a purple magic.
Then finally melancholic and gloomy, the song comes to a slow end, almost like the slumber of a being transcendent to humanity, or enlightened by another ancient.
no... she. wait... what's going on?
RICHARD SETHFYRE
Come down child, I think you might want to see this...
COLIN SETHFYRE (THE CHILD)
*Colin Enters through a secret passage and stands next to the old man, who at first doesn't realise, but proceeds to notice afterwards.*
Brother... it's been a while to say the least
RICHARD SETHFYRE
COLIN?! wait. how have you been living here as a child for eighty years, whilst I grew up?
COLIN SETHFYRE (THE CHILD)
Mother's Mirror shard.
*Colin brings out the shard just as Tabitha Appears, grumpy, eyes closed.*
Tabitha, an old woman wearing a large purple robe and a strange hat, which appeared to be that of a massive bearded dragon or something similar.
TABITHA SETHFYRE
Who summoned me from my peace in the void? You will face my- Colin? Richard? My Great Grandsons? how did you manage to find the song?
COLIN SETHFYRE (THE CHILD)
I'd been looking in the attic as a child, I found your mirror shard; and the music with it. it kept me as a child for all these years.
RICHARD SETHFYRE
so WHY did you keep it a secret from ME?! I'M YOUR BROTHER FOR GOD SAKE.
COLIN SETHFYRE (THE CHILD)
for all of the life that the shard gives, it takes away something in return. usually the soul or the life essence of the person in return for immortality. Tabitha, would you take back the shard?
TABITHA SETHFYRE
*sigh*Child, place the shard in the mirror behind you, once it restores itself, you will return to your normal age, and you will have all you have given, returned.
*Landlord bursts in with an ornamental katana which sat on a trophy pedestal in the landing, brandishing it as an offensive toward Tabitha, who turns to face him*
TABITHA SETHFYRE
Seriously? you're going to attack me in my own manor, James?
*Tabitha opens her eyes and they glow as the sword disappears.*
Do not bother trying to take me down. you know my bloodline, you know my great-grandchildren, why bother?
*The Mirror slowly finishes to repair the crack line, and glows blue with power*, *Colin ages extremely quickly* looking almost exactly like Richard but with different clothing
RICHARD SETHFYRE
COLIN?! You're back to normal? Ah-aha Come here Brother!
Richard pulls Colin into a hug, as Tabitha embraces them
COLIN SETHFYRE (THE OLD MAN)
it's been eighty years since I last spoke to you. and now I've returned, we can do what we were meant to, as Twins, as Brothers, as friends.
RICHARD SETHFYRE
I think I'm a little old to travel and fight those who wronged us in the past. even with help, it would be difficult for me, as I can barely remain independent. aha ha ha.
LANDLORD
OK, can somebody PLEASE explain to me what on earth is going on here? I'm Seriously confused.
COLIN SETHFYRE (THE OLD MAN)
the story of this would take us days to explain, but I will tell you this; I've been living in the sealed off servant's quarters as a child for nearly sixty-five years. I was only ten when I stopped ageing.
LANDLORD
That really doesn't help me at all here.
TABITHA SETHFYRE
*sigh* to put it simply, they were separated because of me, and you brought them back together when you found the sheet music. for that I thank you. but I must leave now. Fare well boys, be on your best behaviour, I'm always watching you...
The Purple hue surrounds Tabitha, and as it fades, everything is back to how it was beforehand. With the exception of having Colin in the room. The Landlord still standing there mouth agape and eyes wide as saucers.
LANDLORD
I... I-I-I have no idea what just happened, but I'm going to bed. this has completely fried my brain for a while. maybe when I can get my head around this I'll get you to explain this to me properly. As for now, goodbye gentlemen.
James leaves the room, leaving Colin and Richard alone, with the door closed, and an awkward silence between them.
RICHARD SETHFYRE
did you say you'd be off soon? after all, you can still take your revenge, I've made peace with mine.
COLIN SETHFYRE (THE OLD MAN)
hmm. maybe I'll stay for the night then leave in the morn. it's a bit too dark for me to find my way around.
RICHARD SETHFYRE
well seeing as you ARE staying here, would you like me to play a couple of songs on the piano? ha-ha.
COLIN SETHFYRE (THE OLD MAN)
of course, after all, Mother's song was originally Tabitha's. I would suggest we don't play it for now, as we don't really need her advice or anything. but I would suggest a few of my personal favourite of your arrangements of Bach's music.
Richard Stifles a laugh and Colin starts laughing with glee written all over his face
COLIN SETHFYRE (THE OLD MAN)
*sigh* well I guess I've missed so much that we have to catch up on. I guess it can wait until after this song.
As the camera starts to go out of the room and back towards the door, everything else seems to fade after it leaves the premises of the mansion, leaving nothing but the Mansion in its beauty surrounded by a dark purple void...
