            ❛ is it treason to harm a prisoner..❜ the reiteration trails off in a thoughtful hum as he gazes into the crystal ball on matters entirely different to what his ally is asking of him. stupidly enough, the glowing ball between his hands swirls away from the scene he was watching and mist and sparkles morph into a bold, two-letter word: no.  an answer to kuroo’s query no doubt. his brows furrow in slight irritation as he turns his gaze to face the messy haired demon, offering the crystal ball to him. 

           ❛ well. there’s your answer to a ridiculous question. unless you’re related to the prisoner’s crime against the kingdom, then i don’t see how it could possibly be treason.❜ it should be mildly concerning how he does not even seek the intent behind the question. searching ‘between the lines’ of such an obvious motive poised as a query, more as a decoration rather than actually seeking to conceal the true aim, was a practice tooru had long abandoned when dealing with kuroo. it was simply a waste of breath. ❛ the prisoner in question?❜

kiyoko cannot count the amount of time that’s passed & they haven’t moved yet. of course, time is irrelevant; she doesn’t feel anything, even after years & years, & likely won’t feel anything if she survives the war onto the next century. her mind is strong & drive solid. but … sometimes, her body betrays her. 

watching her king work so diligently, & giving the best advice where she can ( because she’s not as well-versed in battle, & she certainly wouldn’t want to upset him ), it makes her hungry. the nearby village has been promising so far, & she’s never been found out there before. if only … he would let her out of this room to feed, she might come back in a better mood.

‘ will you let us leave soon ? tanaka & nishinoya keep trying to bring me FROGS to eat. ’

              ❛ if i let you leave, then i’ll have to let everyone else leave.❜ exasperation was etched into his voice, the sigh that followed was heavy with what seemed to be at least a millennia worth of boredom. everything was moving according to plan, it is only that it was so slow, as if a snail was trekking up the highest, steepest mountain on the planet. 

                 it wasn’t that tooru did not share the succubus’ sentiment, but for better or worse -- not everyone in his castle was as responsible and loyal as kiyoko. if word spread that he gave her permission to roam freely, to feed off of humans no less, he’d have more on his plate than he’d care to deal with. 

                ❛ be creative with your escape plan though. don’t let those two follow you. ❜

             ❛ oh, yakkun! don’t be silly, you’re not interrupting. ❜ he jogs over to the libero from across the gym, halting in his tracks because he is stunned. truly and utterly stunned. tooru vaguely recalls a moment of yaku laughing at his silly obsession over the cosmos and alien civilizations; the conclusion he drew at the time was that yet another person thought his interest to be frivolous. he was strangely used to it. hence his surprise.

            ❛ you really went out of your way to get that for me, huh?❜ god, he could feel his face heating, a rosy hue dusting his cheeks and he sheepishly rubs at the back of his neck. sheesh. ❛ so i remind you of galaxies, yakkun? thank you, though!! i don’t think anyone has ever gotten me something i actually like.❜

Thank you very much. You’re annoying on or off the court, though, so I would be worrying about yourself. “

              ❛ i would never. they already know this anyway.❜ he cocked his head to the side curiously, drawing out a contemplative hum.  ❛ really, kuroo-chan, you have no self-awareness, do you? it’s okay to be in denial about these kinds of things, but not that much--❜ tooru squawks incredulously, blinking in rapid disbelief and he brings a hand to cover his mouth in horror. the flare for dramatics is strong with him. ❛ how mean! is that what you say to someone you like? is that your pick-up line? because it’s terrible, lemme tell you that.❜

He couldn’t help but roll his eyes and look back down at his phone screen as he finished typing out his text message to his mom. “ I’m not lying and how would you even know if I did or not? “ Chuckling to himself, he sent the message and set his phone back down. It was ridiculous to think how they are captains at times ( especially Oikawa ) but the difference in their personalities towards one another on and off the court was drastic.  “ It’s kind of hard not to when you’re the one that has to say something about it each time. Doesn’t help that the girls brag about it too. “ Eyes followed the setter before he grinned and reached up with one hand to squeeze his cheeks in between his fingers. “ I don’t think you can handle me. “ 

             his grin twists into something more pompous, eyes twinkling at the prospect of others talking about him highly. his reputation being carried to his fellow captain’s ears by other reliable (perhaps false, too) sources was an advantage he could exploit. ❛ i can read minds, kuroo-chan; i thought you already knew that. but, i’m glad you’ve heard girls bragging -- must mean i’ve left a great impression! ❜ tooru conveniently doesn’t mention that most of those kisses were a result of bold moves on the girls’ part, rather than his initiation of the act. his lips pull into a pout, an exaggerated version of the infamous duck face between the other’s hands as he holds a hand to his chest for added dramatics. ❛ all i heard was ‘gosh, i would love for oikawa-san to kiss me! it would be the best thing to have happened to me this entire year!’. gee, tettsun, contain yourself, please. ❜
