Ok so an actual fire hearth is pronounced with more like "heart" or "haath" but his name specifically is pronounced like "earth" so yippee :]

scale of one to ten how much can i trust hearth if there was a lord of the flies situation and it was a free-for-all
ok so like were it a free-for-all he'd be the one desperately holding onto some kind of civilized manner. the voice of reason or the one trying to be rational (think either piggy from lord of the flies or biscuit from iron blooded orphans). he'd fall into tv tropes like being the Morality Chain or Only Sane Man.
So, assuming someone he knows is there, you could trust him a solid 8-9/10. He's not gonna do anything intentionally stupid. Though he could definitely be the one to accidentally split the group by saying something wrong.
but were it, say, similar to hunger games or battle royale or something and he's on his own? he will survive. he wouldn't actively manipulate anyone, he'd be very upfront and blunt about his intentions.
if he thinks you're a threat he will actively hunt, and if you're not a threat (yet) he will just chill. He wouldn't give you any items, but he'd share advice. eg: "that cut looks nasty. there's a medical drop 10 minutes that way." or "heads up, they're camping up at the cliff-side. i'd stay away if I were you."
but the MOMENT you're an actual threat to him you're dead. lmao so just do not pick up that weapon and you're good
#oc: human!hearth#< it's in the tag... for now hehehe#THANK UU FOR THE ASK TEEHEE KICKS MY LEGS#most of his anger issues are self-destructive instead of outwardly dangerous

oh no
(realizes i have very few drawings of just hearth. it's always hearth and cicada, or cicada on his own. his identity is so intertwined with others' perceptions of him he should probably work through that. but like his anger issues he doesn't view it as an actual problem (it's not hurting anyone, is it? so why should it matter)... poor wounded creature your bear trap is your own teeth)

Zombie/Infected AU part 2
ok ok so…. i have some peoples… a littol blurb about them.
Hearth:
Machinist who gets kinda pushed into the 'leadership' role despite the fact he's not really thrilled about it. He usually fights with like a hatchet or bat. He is just trying to survive and not get anyone killed. In love with Cicada, but "oh, no, we're not like.. together together.." <- they live in the same house and share everything but their feelings with one another
Cicada:
Ex-military who wanted to just vibe and bake a bit (or play games with Lane). He is super high-strung and uses hearth's old hunting gun as a weapon. Eventually gets his hand on a sniper rifle again and stays on guard for any danger around them practically 24/7. He pretty much joins a zombie cult at one point, but that's a tale for another post. In love with Hearth.
TB:
She's one of Hearth's best buds and coworkers, and she's also a super big environmentalist. She uses something like a crossbow if needed, but can shoot a gun and shows the others how to when they need some guidance. She's the pin in the whole group, really.
Willow:
She's a vet who has a little bit of a bad past, but has her life together now (minus the zombies). She's the closest they have to a medic and in general tries to avoid the actual fighting. Willow very quickly develops feelings for Dana, who is (mostly) oblivious.
Dana:
Dana is in-between jobs right now, but knows she wants to be able to capitalize on her fitness and connections. The most like a 'brawler' of the group, and once the apocalypse started she and her sister got separated. Trying desperately to reunite.
Raven:
Ok Raven is a legal secretary that got absolutely fucked over once things started to go south. She'll never let you know that though, as she always has a smile on her face because "You just have to be happy and smile!!" She is the most experienced with gardening, and learned to use a gun from TB.
Mouse:
Mouse is a poor lil silly guy. A biology student very close to graduating, he tried very hard to get Raven's employer to step in legally and make some kind of motion to help with the spread of this weird new disease. He uses whatever's at his disposal, jack of all trades.
Lane:
An online buddy of Cicada's, he suffers through his retail job most of the time. If you need something though, chances are he knows a guy (just have to make sure that guy isn't an undead though..). So instead, he pretty much maintains the vehicles. Can't shoot a gun very well.
Nick:
Eh, he's some guy that knows Willow and happened to be in contact with her when the apocalypse started. Not a lot is known about him, but he's kind of shady and probably needs to have an eye kept on him.
Zombie/Infected AU part 1
hehehe a branch-off of that story with Cicada/Hearth so they're a part of this. Felt I should put some kind of disclaimer of that lol.
Anyways, the disease (nicknamed Drosera Vi) acts similar to a rabies-type disease. In the beginning, at least.
It transfers mostly via bodily fluids (coughing or biting through spit, or blood). And after someone's infected and develops a taste for blood/meat, they're pretty difficult to kill. However, there's no coming back from the dead, so anyone already dead or buried are not rising again or anything.
The story's broad strokes are:
some kind of rabies outbreak?
quarantine
leadership collapse/survival
holding tight until the zombies all starve
yay you made it!
and here's a graph detailing more about the infection: (under the break bc it's kinda gross visually)
so some general zombie info as well:
given more food during the early stages, the zombie can be more active/athletic. without food they become more shambling and lethargic
"wet hunger" just means hunger specifically for blood. This is because instead of getting nutrients through the breakdown of food, the disease focuses on using the energy carried through blood cells to move the muscles.
technically capable of speech up until decomposition, but rarely ever "speaks" after about a week or two.
brain death occurs a few weeks after infection, as the blood is redirected to muscles and the host is simply a vessel for the infection to move.

#ewww ok last one ik this one looks like shit. BUT#rewinding#it is sooo importants for hearth. in the middle of developing that people pleaser attitude and this fuckin... bad idea#terrible decision-making to focus on partying instead of his education because things are already going to be so difficult for him#in the classroom. so he deserves some relaxation right?? let himself loosen up some. (this will have lasting consequences)#and it is so not helped by his gf Willow who is also falling headfirst down into this similar pathway#willow drags herself out. hearth drops out. but not before they fall apart because hearth can't let go of the possibilities of previous#relationships.

#fucka u this one too.#rewinding#i don't think i had decided cicada's hair greying in the back yet when i did this one but this is supposed to be them as adults#like. after an aa session and they've gone to the riverside they used to fish at in their hometown#and venture a bit further down into their emotions and the pathway around them.#probably one of the first moments cicada makes a more explicit 'i want' statement. wanting to get better. wanting hearth to help him#and wanting to live in that moment for just a little longer..#they could have easily fought before this#ough so lightheaded ouuuu oww

first real taste
#wait go back to this one look at it again#rewinding#cause like in the 3rd panel hearth PUTS HIS HAND ON CADENCE'S LEG#and is so caring/soft and like... fuckin GENUINE which is so rare for him#and cadence is oblivious to the emotions bubbling beneath their skin attributing the butterflies in their stomach to the alcohol on their l#lips#JUST FUCKIN PULLING HEARTH CLOSER BY THE BACK OF THE HEAD like they have NO sense of personal space#they are each others' everything and deserve to have so many nights rambling before the morning rises#asking silly questions...#living good moments#reminder: these fuckers have kept me alive through terrible shit and deserve the WORLD#sorry i'm going shaky over my own characters i... yeah.#oh and i didn't even mention hearths ring. so sad
