I CATCH MIDNIGHT: THE 2023 REYLO FANFICTION ANTHOLOGY GIFT FIC EXCHANGE SIGN UPS ARE NOW OPEN

Title inspired by Audre Lorde’s poem “Recreation”

As a special way to enjoy some Reylo fanfiction this Valentine’s Day, the Reylo Fanfiction Anthology is hosting a gift fic exchange on AO3!

As a participant, you will offer to write a story of a minimum of 1000 words for someone’s request. You will also be matched with another writer who’ll write a gift fic for you based on your sign up request.

Sign ups will open on Saturday, November 19th, 2022.

Sign ups will close at midnight EST on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022.

You will receive your recipient’s request by Monday, December 7th, 2022.

All fics are due at midnight EST on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023 to give us time for any pinch hit assignments, if necessary.

Fics will be anonymously revealed at 12:01 A.M., February 14th, 2023.

Authors will be revealed on Tuesday February 21st, 2023.

Please note that that this is an exchange hosted on AO3. In order to participate, you must have an Archive of Our Own account. For questions on how to join AO3, or any other questions, please email us at [email protected].

Please indicate at least three prompts for a fic you would like to receive when signing up, as well as anything you do not want in your gift fic. Additionally, we are asking all participants this year to please include their favorite non-Star Wars book and movie in their sign up.

I love when Rey and Kylo banter and spar, but I don’t like outright fighting where they hurt each other. Fluff is fine! I really like when they kiss and makeup.

I do not want a gift fic with the following: Extreme violence, blood and gore.

Chocolate was a common item on core worlds, in the outer rim it was a rare luxury and Rey roamed the stalls of the bazaar, losing hope.

Ready to give up, she turned a corner at the end of a stall when a familiar furrowed brow, buried under several months old notices and ads, caught her eye. Rey hurried over to the notice board and unearthed the image:

WANTED: DEAD OR ALIVE

CRIME: HIGH TREASON

1 MILLION CREDIT REWARD

FOR INFORMATION LEADING

TO THE CAPTURE OF THIS MAN

The artist had even captured the perpetual scowl and constellation of moles on his face. Under the hair and the glasses, it was unmistakeable to anyone who had known him. It ached to see that nose and those lips.

Rey hesitated only for a second, then snatched the wanted poster off the wall, satisfied with how it tore off its pins. A distant, questioning curiosity edged at her awareness, but she ignored it as she viciously stuffed it into her pack.

The trip back was arduous: several days through the desert under two burning suns. But even without chocolate, the trip was worth it for rations that couldn’t be grown and the replacement part for the moisture vaporator tucked safely into her bag.

When she finally made it to the hidden glass dome she called home, her oasis in the desert, she breathed easier and the force sang with its joy and anticipation. The air in the greenhouse was heavy and moist—like the forests of Takodana.

Humidity, he called it.

A byproduct of all the moisture in their conservatory. Another word he’d taught her.

Inside, Ben awaited her arrival. Tall, broad, swathed in soft cotton greys and smiling. So unlike the drawing she’d brought back with her.

“I take it you found chocolate?” He asked, by way of greeting, pulling her into a tight hug.

“No, even better.” She pulled out the crumpled bit of paper, holding it out for them to look at together. “Do you remember your wig?”

He frowned, pouting, “My nose is not that big.”

“It’s a good likeness.” Rey tilted her head back and got up on her tip toes to rub her nose against his. “And I like your big nose.”

Problem kid Ben is constantly getting into trouble at school. He’s cocky, arrogant. A real asshole.

He gets into a fight and meets the school nurse, Miss Niima. Pretty, sweet, and definitely new. She doesn’t know of him—Rey treats his nosebleed with soft, gentle hands and a smile. Of course Ben takes advantage.

“Where else does it hurt?” She asks, so he moans and holds his hand over his stomach.

“Lower,” he tells her when she’s pressing into his abdomen.

Rey catches on quick and doesn’t take any of his shit. She scolds him and Ben goes back to class, surprised to find himself half hard already.

Ben can’t help it. Barely a day goes by without him finding some excuse to get sent to the nurse’s office. He can’t resist… not when she touches him, talks to him, smiles at him. He likes it too much when she cares for him.
