Do you like vampires? Do you like the 90s? Do you like vampires working menial jobs in the 90s? Then you'll want to read more about my 1-bit visual novel, Night Shift: 1999 !
Set in Kings Cross, Sydney during the end of the millennium, play as a vampire from the 1600s trying to make ends meet as she works the night shift at the local hospital.
With five introductory stories available in the demo, it takes around 1-4 hours to complete. It's available to play through itch.io and you can now wishlist it on Steam.

I know I don't shut up about this but frankly not enough people are angry about the 5-day/40 hour workweek (and I am AWARE a lot of people work even more than that). I feel like a lot more people should be absolutely furious that we only really have two days a week and some occasional hours in the evening to socialise, run errands, do chores, or relax.
It's no wonder so many people are profoundly lonely and disconnected from their communities when maintaining a social life in what little free time we have is incredibly difficult. If you have kids, a second job, a very long commute, or other responsibilities, it's nearly impossible.
We literally aren't meant to live like this and I'll never stop being shocked how many people just take it as the natural state of things and don't want to throw a brick through a billionaire's window every time they think of it.

Next on my Film For Every Year filling-out: 1935 - Mad Love
A pianist loses his hands in an accident, but a doctor who has been stalking his wife offers to help, with the hands of a murderer!
This isn't strictly the origin of the 'transplanted bodypart makes you evil' premise but it's pretty early and pretty charming! It's one of those 30s horror movies that had some more gruesome scenes and an entire prostitute character cut, but a warning at the start saying "This film will MELT YOUR MIND with HORROR"... And then nothing much horrifying actually happens. There's a really good scene where the villain is pretending to be an horrendous freak of science though. And he's played by Peter Lorre who - you know what, a lot of the hype about these 30s-50s actors being good is so right. I love him. Delightfully creepy acting. Despite the premise, nobody actually gets murdered by the murder hands! Thanks Hays Code.
#severalowls film filler century#also its like 70 minutes long or something which i cant deny is appealing#even if this is because they cut bits out

At aged like 13 I have the distinct memory of looking at a toddler somebody had brought to meet somebody outside my secondary school and going. Some day that oblivious baby will be my peer. Now those toddlers on on this very website.......
