In regards to BW 'holding your hand' throughout the game: I found the Gym Leaders and your rivals to be incredibly easy (I don't know if that's what you're referring to or not). However, the final Team Plasma bosses were some of the toughest in-game battles I've had in a long time - the ending was fantastic. The overall difficulty could probably be a little higher, but I think the storyline is one of the best of any version.

I was referring to the frustrating linearity of constant tutorial character appearances, and how, apparently, Pokémon that completely squash the Gym Leader's are in the wild near almost every gym. If the Team Plasma bosses are hard, though, that should make up for it - I found every team boss after GSC disproportionately easy for the main villains.

What are the pros and cons of Pokémon Laboratory vs. Pokémon Online? Online seems to have a larger userbase, but Laboratory is Shoddy's direct successor. I plan on trying both and making a comparison when I'm back at my computer.

Sadly it's still banned from tournaments and online play for the mostpart. Along with all the "main" legendaries. Though, things like the trios, lati's, etc. are usable.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't really like to use legendaries; it simply caught my eye as I was flicking through. I have a lot of catching up to do, to say the least.

What would you say the main change in battling dynamics and tactic trends has been since 2009? Have I missed any really momentous shifts?

I'm going to order White the first chance I get - and definitely SoulSilver, because I always wanted a GSC remake. I have heard that BW holds your hand a lot throughout the game, which I hated in Platinum even three years ago, but I'll reserve judgement until I play it.

Took a short break from homework to prod around Pokémon Online (sadly not a revival of the MMO project I used to follow - it seems it's the new Shoddy Battle, though the makers of Shoddy have made a rival project, Pokémon Laboratory, I think - feel free to correct me on any of this). Whoa, has competitive battling changed in the space of three years. Thankfully, Smogon's still up (it seems to have lost a little of its relevance...), so it shouldn't take too long for me to catch up and go back. If anyone has any pointers, they'd be more than appreciated!

Also on a competitive note, looking at my old decks and card albums excavated from my cupboards makes me really want to get back into the TCG, though, from a quick glance at a few forums and the official site, it's been turned upside down since 2009, and I'd have to be willing to be a noob again. That said, there's nobody here to play with.
