Home Cooked, Home Sewn, Wish More Was Home Grown

My adventures in sewing, cooking, and baking! Currently studying Astrophysics out of an apartment in the Twin Cities, so my garden (and time) are somewhat limited, but I’d love to hear any tips on sewing, cooking, and gardening in college!

I don't know who needs to hear this, but
YOU DO NOT NEED TO START A NEW HOBBY!
STEP AWAY FROM THE TEXTILES!
YOU DON'T NEED MORE YARN!
THAT FABRIC IS NOT CALLING TO YOU! LEAVE IT ALONE!

Knitting! Nope gotta untangle string first
Crochet! After I untangle some string
Weaving - untangle lots of string
Cross stitch - hold up, string is tangled and I am full of rage
Sewing: string tangled into tiny knots of hatred

I already had the embroidery pattern made and started when I started getting requests for this, but stitching can take some time. Pattern info under the cut for those who want to make their own.

Lettering is done with a stem stitch with DMC 816 in two strands. Border is DMC 3750 for the dashes and is a split stitch in 4 strands, DMC 700 for the stems with stem stitch in two strands, DMC 907 for the leaves in stem stitch in 1 strand, and DMC 3843 in two strands in satin stitch for the flowers. The border is from DMC's Motifs for Embroidery No 5. Color choices for this piece were made based on United Healthcare's brand palette, shown and linked below.

Note: You don't have to know how to make anything fancy. Just do you know the basics well enough to at least get started?

the problem with being creative is that you start to feel very guilty when you haven’t created anything in a while

knitting tutorial made by a twenty-something knitting influencer: 18 min long, 12 of those minutes being the intro and a sponsor plug, they show the first few steps of the tutorial at the slowest speed known to man, they show the most important steps at a neck-break speed, they stop every five seconds to talk about what they just did, 40,000 comments filled with questions ranging from insightful to “how do i knit”, filmed with a camera that costs more than a car, the tutorial is incorrect.
knitting tutorial made by a seventy-something grandmother: two min long, filmed 17 years ago, shows you what you want with the skilled patient hands of a beloved deity, made with the world’s shittiest camera, the best video on the fucking internet, four comments and 30 views, you lose the video and never find it again.
