I was in line at Aldi and this girl with two toddlers in front of me had her card declined and she looked so fucking sad and said “let me call my husband real quick” and it was only 18 dollars, so I just paid for it, and she was very sweet and then as she walked off, the lady behind me said `”You know that was probably a scam, right?” and like, even if it was, like what a sad fucking scam, right? 18 dollars at the Aldi. If you’re “scamming” me for some Tyson chicken and apple juice and cauliflower, then just take my fucking money. 

“A scam” people are fucking wild.

begging the voting population of u.s. citizens on tumblr to vote this year, and specifically to vote in the way that most practically ensures trump doesn't win, not out of a liberal centrist "don't you hate the orange man hoho" impulse, but out of love and fear for the many, many, many marginalized populations whose lives will be concretely worse under a second trump presidency, out of paranoia that the current architecture of our american quasi-democracy will not survive a new formalized attempt at dismantling it, out of having done the research that no matter what you think of biden literally every stance of trump's is noticeably more disastrous.

i hate that these are our only two practical choices right now but hating it doesn't do anything to change the fact that these are our only two practical choices right now. a trump victory will also almost certainly send the mainstream democratic politicians scrambling even closer to the center; that is historically how the democratic machine reacts to defeat! which absolutely sucks, but the best way to lay the groundwork for progressive policies in the future is to start as far from zero as we can.

i am begging you: vote biden, and then protest every fucking thing he does. make that old man's life miserable. just please, please, please don't burn down your own country to try to make a point; who materially benefits from that?

Cool cool cool so I was wrapping up a quick little info zine on intersex issues and the queer community to hand out at kink night tonight and this library student-employee dipshit came in and said "sir, we're closing in an hour" which lies they were closing in an hour and fifteen minutes but I just gave a thumbs up while finishing my last zine page with "my lived experience as an intersex dyke" after official sources

And he farted around with the blinds for like two minutes in this computer corner where I was the Only Person before saying "okay sir have a good day"

And I never correct cis people about my gender. Ever. But I said calmly and with good humor "I'm a woman, actually. And it's funny because I'm working on a zine about being an intersex woman and you've called me sir twice now"

And this young little college bro who peaked in high school football stood over me with his back to the only exit so I was effectively cornered and:

- asked me for personal medical info about my sex?????

- "well people like you are really rare so you can't expect people to know"

- "shouldn't you just get used to it? If someone called me ma'am it wouldn't bother me at all"

- "well I can't just ask everyone for their pronouns bc other people would get mad"

- "you can't just expect people to drop conventions we've always had just for you"

And once I was shaking and about to cry after giving him simple, polite, but dismissive answers and told him this was making me extremely uncomfortable and I was trying to finish my fucking work, he said:

- I was just asking questions

- I was just being polite

- How am I supposed to learn if I can't ask questions?

And when I pulled up my recording phone and asked for his name, he froze for ten seconds then said "MY name?" Then froze more and said it. Because he knew he stood there waiting to call me sir a second time. Because he saw me dressed femme and saw me alone, cornered, and took advantage of that moment to try to debate my fucking existence and right to my gender identity to me. And this lasted for about five excruciating minutes where he couldn't take a single polite out I gave him.

I reported him to the kind queer library supervisor and got an email address to send a full report to. I'm also gonna write an email about this to my comp teacher bc we're supposed to go to the library as a class soon and ain't no way the head of the English department would be chill with my writing-obsessed 100%-graded ass feeling too unsafe to use the fucking library.

Queer people who aren't intersex, this is why we fucking need you to include, support, and fight alongside intersex people.

The 2024 Gender Census is now open!

The 11th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th June 2024.

It’s short and easy, about 5 minutes probably.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful - it’s what helped us get 40,000 responses last year.
