Okay so
In Skinner's Sense of Snow (s12 ep8) when the kids overthrow Principal Skinner's authority and run amuck in the permanent records closet, Nelson gets his hands on Skinner's binder containing information on his payroll, and it's revealed that he makes (roughly) 25k USD a year.
There's a joke where the kids fudge some math and somehow come to the conclusion that Skinner is a millionaire which is obviously wrong and Seymour points out as much, but how much was that, really?
We'll say the Skinner's Sense of Snow takes place in December of 2000, the episode's release date (the nature of the show's months-long production of episodes might make this estimation inaccurate but since it is a Christmas episode I'm sticking with December 2000, it's not a huge margin of error anyway)
So, with the use of data.bls.gov and assuming very optimistically that Skinner's paycheck has kept up with inflation rates, we can arrive at the conclusion that these days, Skinner would be making roughly 45.3k USD a year. Now let's compare that to other numbers.
According to Eric.ed.gov, the average Elementary School principal in the years 1999 and 2000 made 69.4k USD a year. Skinner was being paid 36% of the average salary of his profession!
According to ZipRecruiter.com, the average salary of an Elementary School principal in 2024 is 98k USA a year. Now Skinner is being paid 46% of the average! That's slightly better for Skinner but that also means principals overall aren't being paid as much as they used to be!
According to Indeed.com, the average Elementary School teacher these days is now being paid 56.8k USD a year. Principal Skinner is paid 11.3k less than the average Elementary School teacher, the infamously underpaid job.
Need I remind you that Skinner's 45.3k a year is the optimistic estimate?
So comparing the principal and teacher salary averages, we can see that the teachers are being paid 58% of the principal's annual salary on average, we can therefore presume that the teachers at Springfield Elementary are being paid...... 26.3k USD a year. At best.
The annual salary for the US minimum wage is 15k a year.
Springfield Elementary is a nightmare school! No wonder Skinner still lives with an abusive mother, he's mostly living off her pension because he has to! He's not paid nearly enough for the crap he goes through!!!

And capitalism is like the existential/psychological horror genre of math!
